ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Inglot O2M 646

inglot o2m 646 nail polish bottle 365 untrieds 365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.

The Inglot store in Times Square and I were never meant to meet.  I first spotted it over a year ago while on a late night walkabout in the city.  I was happy to see that, like most stores in the area, it was open til midnight. Except I pulled on the doors only to find them locked, leaving all the pretty nail polishes within eyesight but out of my reach.

A few nights later I returned with a friend only to be rebuffed, yet again,by locked doors even though there were employees inside who refused to look our way.  I was BITTER.

Then last May I attended The Makeup Show in NYC where Inglot was exhibiting and I finally got my hands on their polishes.  Their booth was a madhouse and you had to fight hoards of makeup fiends to get near the table but I exited victorious, three new Inglots in hand.  Today I’m giving Inglot 646 from the O2M Breathable Nail Enamel line a try.

Formula & Application: Inglot does not provide an ingredient list on their bottle or website.  The corporate site states that the O2M line is 3-Free and does not include Camphor though it doesn’t mention anything about formaldehyde resin.  Those of you with allergies should contact the company before purchasing.

The O2M line is touted as “breathable nail enamel” and according to the website it uses a polymer designed for contact lenses to increase the oxygen permeability of the varnish films, improve the permeability to water vapour, facilitate the varnish spreading and reduce the film tightness.

The tall rectangular bottles have a smooth plastic cap and a thin, long, round brush.  The bristles are pretty flexible but the brush doesn’t fan out easily and the length made it more difficult to control the polish.  I ended up with a lot more polish on my skin than usual.

The formula applies pretty thin and streaky though it does lay down a decent amount of pigment.  I only needed two coats to get full coverage.  My issue is that I ended up with a TON of bubbling.  I used the same base and top coat combination as usual and I applied 646 to all my nails since I was going out this afternoon.  I photographed it dry before I left and within the hour it was bubble city.  I don’t know if it’s the product combination or the polish so I’ll have to give it further testing before completely writing it off.

Inglot 646 is a navy blue shimmer.  It has a hint of denim to it but I would classify it as a jewel tone.  The color looks vibrant, like OPI Yoga-ta Get This Blue, in sunlight but appears more like Russian Navy indoors.  It doesn’t ever approach the “almost black” zone but it’s pretty deep.

Bottom Line: 646 isn’t the most unique blue I’ve ever seen.  In fact, it’s pretty ordinary.  Considering the abundance of navy blues on the market, the price tag, the odd application and the bubbling issue, this one gets a big fat PASS from me.

365 of Untrieds Stash/Share Verdict: If you hadn’t guessed already, this one goes in the SHARE bin.  Hopefully someone else will have better luck with it than I did.

Inglot recently opened its online doors to the US.  In addition to their NYC & Vegas brick & mortar locations you can order Inglot products at InglotUSA.com.  Inglot O2M Breathable Nail Enamel retails for $14/ea for a .37oz bottle.

Have you tried Inglot nail polishes?  What has your experience been with the O2M line?  Thoughts on 646?

Disclosure: I purchased this nail polish.  As an attendee of The Makeup Show NYC I received a 20% discount on my purchase. For more info view my Disclosure Policy.

I agree with you, its pretty but not that unique.

  2. Megan says:

So so pretty. Not worth $14 though.

  3. I’m a sucker for this type of blue, but I already own so many. Plus $14 for a troublesome color that even a $1 brand can do well is too much!

  4. I’m convinced Inglot is the next Coach of make up – nice enough, but not nearly unusual/special enough for the price tag. More on that here – http://procrastinatingpretty.blogspot.com/2010/11/high-end-for-masses.html

  5. Lara says:

That is a beautiful color. I’d never pay that much for nail polish though. I think Sally Hansen probably has a nice blue for cheap. :)

Michelle, what color would you recommend for pale skin with pink undertones?

  6. Abbey says:

Inglot is very popular in Australia, and considering we don’t have many polish brands readily available, and those that are come in at $20 a piece, ($20 for O.P.I, $18 for Essie), Inglot is a cheaper alternative. Some of their colours are gorgeousss. You should try out their pastel collection in particular,

I have them all and they are unlike any other colours you would consider pastel. They all have a feint shimmer to them that makes them unique and none of them have that Looks-like-chalk effect on the nail. Stunning.

  7. It looks like a less pretty version of Illamasqua Phallic.
Also, that sucks butt…I hate when employees see you and act like they don’t. They should at least come over to the door and be like sorry we’re closed, come back tomorrow. That’s better than me awkwardly staring through the doors and them trying to look busy while avoiding my pitiful gaze. Sheesh.

  8. keri says:

I like it.. but I see what you mean about it not being unique. :(

  9. Joy says:

Hi! That particular polish you tried is one of their “breathable” line, so Inglot strongly recommends one use their “breathble” base coat as well, & that there may be issues such as you experienced when using a non-breathable base. I’ve had good success with Ingot in the past, so I would recommend giving them a second chance. Such a vast array of colors!

    • Joybeth says:

Do you know which base coat goes with the O2M because on the site there is no explanation just gives a bunch of bases and top coats and treatments that don’t tell you anything about them.

  10. Taffy says:

I’ve been happy with the polish that I’ve purchased from Inglot in the past and haven’t had any problems. I haven’t tried the OM2 line since they have no brick & mortar stores in Toronto so I’d have to go back to Montreal before I could pick anything new up.

  11. virginia says:

It’s a shame that you tried this color first because Inglot has some really awesome colors. I bought a few at the store at The Forum in Las Vegas. They were much more unique than the blue that you tried, and even the SA told me that she was going to redo her manicure after seeing the colors I chose.

    • All Lacquered Up says:

At the MU Show last year they had a pretty limited color range. It has greatly expanded since then. They only had polishes from the O2M line so I didn’t have the option to get anything else. I may not give up on them but I’m severely disappointed in 646.

  12. Apriltini says:

At $14, it had better be freakin’ spectacular, but it doesn’t appear to be. On another note, why do my nails need to breathe? Did they develop lungs and not tell me? What a silly selling point, IMO.

    • Ciara says:

It’s for Muslim women who need to do a ritual cleansing that requires water to reach everywhere, including nails, I think, before the prayer they do 5x a day. (I saw this on the press release.) I think thar it’s NOT silly, and kinda nice, bc people who couldn’t enjoy np bc of their religiin can now. I just thought I would say.

      • Sundus says:

thanks for saying that, 14 $$ for us is a reasonable
price cause we don’t usually wear it and i always wanted too! so thanks to Inglot I can now, Yay haha
        :)

  13. Cat says:

Pretty color; but it’s unfortunate that it gave you so many problems. I looked at the Inglot website and they have a couple different types of nail polish– I wonder if the other ones would have less problem than this one (maybe something about the O2M line?).

    • All Lacquered Up says:

I hope so. I’m planning to buy some colors from the other lines now that they have e-commerce for the US. I’m not even attempting to go to the NYC location again.

      • Carrie says:

For what it’s worth, I tried out 962 from the gray collection and had no issues – opaque in two coats, no bubbling and nice lasting time. That said, the color -still- wasn’t that unique and $10 is still a little high for the price.

        • All Lacquered Up says:

The gray collection is in a different formula than the one I tried. Based on a rec in one of the earlier comments to give the pastels a try, I ordered those today along with the “breathable” base & top coat just to see if that solves the bubbling. I think the whole idea of “breathable” polish sounds like bunk but I’ve heard crazier claims from beauty brands.

          • Carrie says:

I remember seeing those and just raising a brow at the claim. Besides, who cares if it breathes if it stains?

  14. Chris says:

I went to IMATS on Sunday, and the Inglot table was impossible to broach! Even as the day progressed, the crowd around it didn’t let up, and I didn’t feel like fighting those people in order to buy products. I wanted to obtain some nail polishes at a discount, but there were way too many people. I have been to the Manhattan Inglot store, but their products are expensive and I don’t want to pay full price for a polish that bubbles. At Inglot, I only bought two eyeshadows that looked kind of unique, and I got 10% off because I showed my MUA business card. I wish they had a better pro artist program. If you go to the NYC store, Michelle, try to go during lunch time. The store is pretty much empty and the SAs are easier to deal with.

  15. NailPolishFan says:

I love this blue nail polish. It’s so pretty, you can tell that it’s blue (which is a huge plus) and I love all the shimmer in it. This is the perfect blue that I would wear all year. Great color.

  16. flowerpower says:

I bought one but for such price, I was disappointed. The only thing I like is the colour. The brush is too thin and it lasts (including breathable base and top coat) about days.

  17. flowerpower says:

I bought one but for relatively high price and I was disappointed. The only thing I like is the colour. The brush is too thin and it lasts (including breathable base and top coat) about 3 days.

  18. Polished.ca says:

Apparently you have to use them with the “breathable” base/top coat. I have 3 breathable polishes (I got them on my recent trip to Poland and never used them yet- you know.. too many polishes, not enough fingernails syndrom). I will let you know if mine bubble too.

  19. Ewa says:

Hi Inglot is actually a Polish brand and a pretty affordable one. It is such a shame that they charge so much more for their products all over the world. I live in Amsterdam and they also have a store here, but the prices are 3-4 times higher than in Poland… Such a shame…

I have one polish from their breathable line and I love the colour, but hate that only after a day of wearing it it wears off a the tips…
