ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Dashing Diva Tibi Couture

dashing diva tibi couture nail polish 365 untrieds 365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.

One of my favorite things about Fashion Week is when the nail brands and designers come together to create custom mixes.  Whether it’s to match a swatch of fabric or an inspirational image, I am always inspired to come home and franken up a new color or two.

Every so often, one of those backstage blends makes it into production which saves my mixing bottles for other creations.  That was the case with Dashing Diva Tibi Couture.  At last year’s Fall 2010 runway show, Tibi’s Amy Smilovic requested a greyed mushroom hue for her model’s nails and Dashing Diva’s Pattie Yankee came up with the perfect mix.

Formula & Application: Dashing Diva nail polishes are 4-Free (including formaldehyde resin).  The square glass bottles come with a long, smooth plastic cap and a thin, round brush that is a bit longer than the norm.  The bristles are pretty flexible so covering the nail is pretty easy.

The polish feels kind of squishy when you apply it but it’s not watery or lacking pigment.  In fact, Tibi Couture gave me great coverage in two coats.  It dried so even, flawless and glossy that I didn’t even need to apply top coat before photographing it.

Tibi Couture was created backstage by mixing Dashing Diva Astor Place and West Village.  The original backstage color photographed very grey but the shade that went into production is much more mushroom than taupe.  I’d say it’s a few shades darker than what we think of as greige.  Something about it feels like the spring version of all those dark taupe greys that have been so popular (eg Chanel Paradoxal).

Bottom Line: Dashing Diva has a great formula and some unique colors.  If you follow fashion and like to emulate the looks from your favorite shows, this one is worth picking up.  Personally, I’m torn.  I like the color but don’t know if it’s something I would reach for over and over again.

365 of Untrieds Stash/Share Verdict: I’m at a stalemate.  I don’t think I have a dupe for Tibi Couture but I don’t know if I NEED it.  I’ll let you help me decide.  Tell me… would you Stash or Share?

Dashing Diva polishes are available at Dashing Diva salons and online at DashingDiva.com.  Nail polishes retail for $8/ea for a .5oz bottle.

What do you think of Tibi Couture?  Are you a fan of Dashing Diva polishes?  Have you been to a Dashing Diva salon?  I’ve been to a few and have always been impressed with the service I’ve received.

  1. It has a visible jelly kind of finish that seems unique, even if the shade is not so much. I’d stash for now and revisit in 6 months or so?

  2. Carrie says:

    Share.

It’s pretty, but at this point, also pretty ordinary. Maybe a stash if you’re looking to pick up that kind of color for the first time?

  3. Diane says:

I think your uncertainty answers your own question. If you’re not in love with it, pass it on and make room for something that really knocks your socks off.

I think it’s a nice colour but it’s not exactly original, I’d share it if I were you.

    SHARE!

If you felt disappointed to read that then keep it. That’s the test I use. :)

  5. Gigi says:

Oh I would DEFINITELY share…..with moi!!!!
It reminds me of the brownish version of a color I used to ADORE and can no longer find. Trish McEvoy used to make a polish line, and there was a pink but not really pink color called Spring St. (still have a bottle, with several drops in it…) Hard to explain the color but if I could find a dupe I would buy it up…….If you know anything about it, or a dupe for it I will FLIP!!!! Anyway… That’s my story and i’m sticking to it.. Would be glad to try and get a “swatch” of it from what’s left…and a pic of the bottle…if you would like!

  6. Katy says:

It’s cute. If you don’t have any mushrooms in your stash, or you’re the kind who can never have enough, it’d be a good pick. But if it’s not your style, you might as well pass it on.

  7. Barbara says:

I’d stash it, it looks fantastic!

  8. stephanie says:

personally, id say share. that color is a little too safe for my taste…in fact, it bores me! you have SO many other fantastic colors in your stash that i think this one would just end up hiding behind the rest of them anyway.

  9. Rachel says:

if i am to be honest…it’s kind of blah. Nothing really special to make it stand out and it seems so similar to a lot of other. seems like a SHARE to me :)

  10. Benita says:

Just for the fact that it’s so light, yet has great coverage: stash!

  11. Monique says:

I would share this one. ^_^

  12. Jenn says:

I’d share. Seems like an ordinary colour probably something youd have many colours close to. :)

  13. FOREVER '92 says:

I love this color, I like the fact that I can’t put my finger on what color it is. lol This nail polish seems very exclusive since you know that it was made backstage for a fashion show.

  14. Corey says:

I’d totally stash! It looks absolutely beautiful on your skin tone and would be beautiful for attending a spring/summer wedding.

  15. Tams says:

    Meh, share!!

  16. TropicalChrome says:

If it were me, I’d share, because that’s the kind of color that always screams “not worth the effort” to me. But it’s not my stash :)!

  17. I say share. I know it isn’t supposed to be a pretty shade, but I love greiges and I find this a bit boring. It just looks kind of blah.

  18. Jane says:

    stash!

  19. Sarah says:

If you don’t have a dupe and really you like it, stash it. If it’s something you think you can live without though, get rid of it.

  20. Anne Marie says:

I would never use it… I’ts just a bit – boring! Way too ordinary, for me at least.

  21. Melody says:

    I love this color :)

  22. Meeka says:

It’s nice enough but nothing that really grabs my attention. I agree with what Diane said, if you’re uncertain about it then you probably don’t need it. Just because you don’t own another exactly like it doesn’t mean you have to keep it, it should only be in the stash if you love it :)

  23. dovile says:

Even if you don’t have an exact dupe for this color in your collection, I bet you have something VERY close (Tickle my France-y seems like it would be very similar). So I say share. :)

  24. Scienter says:

Share. It’s not very unique and even though you don’t have a dupe, you probably have something similar enough. If you had to choose between this and another one of your greiges/taupes, would you pick this one or grab the Paradoxal?

  25. maya says:

Share. You have so many awesome polishes, no need to keep something you already have doubts about

  26. Lindsey says:

I agree with whoever suggested that your uncertainty probably means you should share it. I love it, though, so if I had the polish in my hands I’d keep it for myself!

  27. Lara says:

If it were me, I have plenty of greiges that I like a lot better… personally I would SHARE – with my mom! She loves these safe for work type colors, and they look great on her – I recently sent her You Don’t Know Jacques after getting a second.

My opinion: share it with someone who you know loves these types of colors and will get great use out of it :)

  28. Lauren says:

With no dupes, definitely stash. You never know when you may need it for a comparison shot! :)

  29. FaithJ says:

You can share it with me… :)

  30. Kikyo says:

    Stash!

If only for the fact that you don’t have a dupe for this color in your collection – that’s a pretty unique color!

  31. Erin says:

    Share.
I’m a packrack by nature. If I feel uncertain about an item I toss it.

I would like to add: I hate you. You have great skintone. Most colors give me that awful lobster hand look, taupes & reds are the worst offenders. You don’t seem to have this problem. So there, I’m jealous of your wonderful skintone. Are there any colors you can’t pull off?

  32. paula says:

If you’re torn you should share it. You probably won’t want to wear it again if you’re not crazy for it.

  33. Adria says:

That looks similar to Sally Hansen ‘Commander in Chic’… maybe a little more jelly but it would be interesting to see if they’re dupes. There are so many colors like this out there, though…

  34. Amanda says:

    Share… with me! ;)

I love it, but I’m a huge fan of the more neutral colors. This is work-friendly but still has some edge.

    Thanks for the swatch!

  35. Lynn says:

Meh, share. These shades just aren’t all that unique anymore.

  36. Erin says:

Share…. You aren’t in love with it! For me it needs something extra to make it not just interesting but wearable.

  37. Share. It just doesn’t have that “WOW” factor.

  38. Stickers says:

I would share: it looks too watery for my taste, altough th color is supecool..

  39. BlueCat says:

Share – there’s nothing special about this one.

  40. Sharon says:

Share. I usually love the neutrals but for some reason this one just doesn’t do anything for me. Maybe someone else would absolutely love it, though.

  41. Alexis says:

It is a very nice color. If you’re torn there are a couple questions you could ask yourself: ‘Do I NEED it?’ ‘Will I REGRET giving it up?’ ‘Why am I having DOUBTS?’ ‘Would someone ELSE love to have this polish?’ I would personally give to my mom, she’s more into taupy colors. Thanks yet again ALU for another post! Greatly appreciated :). Have a nice day.
