ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – butter LONDON No More Waity, Katie

butter-london-no-more-waity-katie-nail-polish-bottle-365-untrieds 365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.

The upcoming Royal Wedding is very polarizing. The Anglophiles are savoring every second of coverage that the nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton are receiving. Then there are people like me, who could care less. For the record, I’m not a complainer who wants to stop hearing about it. I respect that people care so I just tune out. What really bugs me though are the companies hawking products with their likenesses, imitations of the engagement ring, etc.

And of course there just had to be a nail polish. butter LONDON’s Nonie Creme paid homage to the Royal Couple with the shade No More Waity, Katie, based on a nickname given to Kate by the press. Being that Nonie is British and her nail polish creations all have Brit-themed names, I’m giving her a pass on this one. Mainly because the color intrigued me. If the shade didn’t sound special, I NEVER would have bought it.

Formula & Application: butter LONDON is known for its 3-Free formula but it is actually 4-Free (no Formaldehyde Resin). The bottle has a smooth plastic outer cap that easily slides off (thanks to a bottle redesign) to reveal a ribbed, round inner cap used for polishing. The brush is thin and round with flexible bristles that easily fan out to cover the nail.

Given the amount of glitter packed into the formula, it’s no surprise that it applies semi-sheer with a jelly-ish feel.  Though unlike bL’s popular JELLY line, No More Waity, Katie is buildable to opaque.  After three generous coats I achieved full coverage.  One thing to note, the polish dries a bit flat so whip out your glossiest top coat.  You may need two coats to completely smooth out the glitter texture.

butter LONDON No More Waity, Katie is at its core a smokey lavender, a lighter version of Chanel Paradoxal. It is described as greige on the website but I see no evidence of that here. Sprinkled into the base is light purple hexagonal glitter.  Something about this color feels grungy to me.  There’s too much smoke in the water so to speak.  It ends up looking more punk than royal.

Bottom Line: While I appreciate where Nonie was going with this, for me it falls flat. The color doesn’t look as special as it sounded or as special as it should be. I know people have been and will continue to scoop up this color due to the name and what it’s associated with but from me it gets a pass.

365 of Untrieds Stash/Share Verdict: As much as I know I should say SHARE, the hoarder in me wants to STASH it even though I’m not in love with. I may play with some layering to see if I can make it workable.

butter LONDON No More Waity, Katie is available online at butterLONDON.com and b-glowing.com. While the bL line is carried in ULTA and Nordstrom I don’t believe those chains are getting the shade.  butter LONDON nail polishes retail for $14.00/ea for .4oz bottle.

Were you sucked in by No More Waity, Katie?  Thoughts on the shade?  Are you into or over the Royal Wedding? If you don’t own this shade will you be picking up a bottle?  I’d love to hear some creative layering ideas for it.

Disclosure: I purchased this nail polish. For more info view my Disclosure Policy.

  1. Anna says:

I had initially purchased No More Waity, Katie and ended up swapping it away. I thinned the beejesus out of it and it was STILL a pain in the butt to apply.

I wanted so much to love it :(

  2. I actually want this color…not because I care about the royal couple though. I actually care more about what’s going on with Leah and Corey from Teen Mom 2 than I do about these other folks. *shrug*

But I really do like the color. I bet one coat of it would look so beautiful over a dark purple.

  3. Brooke says:

I’m actually glad I didn’t purchase this one. It sounded beautiful but I couldn’t give in to the Royal Hype, or justify paying SO much shipping for one polish.
After seeing your swatches (which are the nicest ones I’ve seen so far) I’m super happy I didn’t cave. That’s such a sad nickname too… ugh.

  4. I kind of like it. It looks dirty and cool. If they had this shade at Ulta I would definitely buy it.

  5. Tammie says:

It’s nice but glitters aren’t for me, after an hour of scrubbing my nails I’ve decided glitter is only for my toes which I don’t touch for months at a time with polish…clip them yes, polish them no.

Anyways I am in the same category as you are regarding the royal wedding. I just don’t see the big deal.

  6. Luka says:

Love the color and the sweet love story it was inspired by.

  7. Stacie says:

I’ve layered it over Zoya Caitlin and it looks great! It’s too hard to get to look right on its own.

    • lia says:

I agree! It looks great over Zoya Caitlin, or even just a plain grey (I used RBL Stormy the first time).

  8. ria says:

There’s been so much ‘Royal Wedding’ themed memorabilia over here in England that it’s getting grating, but this polish is nowhere near as good as the Nails Inc royal wedding collection and Wills and Kate polishes – far more regal looking!

PS: only recently stumbled across your blog Michelle, and absolutely LOVING it (although you’re not doing the bank balance much good- this 365 of untried makes me want everything!) x

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Who made the Wills and Kate polishes? Are they also Nails Inc? I should have known they would come up with something for the occasion. And I’m so glad you found me though please apologize to your wallet. :)

      • ria says:

They did! Kate is a kinda nude, with a sapphire crystal cap (after her engagement dress), and Will is a classic red with a Union Jack crystal cap!! pretty blinging. From your 365s I got the Eyeko Cosmic but it came in a 3 (darn, 3 more ;)) well looking forward to the red glittery Vampira (what a sexy name!)

    • Lorna says:

I agree, a lot of the stuff in general is pretty tacky.

I think I saw on ASOS the other day that you can get a special OPI set as well, just with a red white and blue.

  9. Shaina says:

I agree. The idea is great, but it didn’t translate well.

  10. Carrie says:

It’s just okay. The color in the bottle isn’t bad, the color on the nail is just meh. Even without the royal connotations it’s just not an exciting polish.

  11. I’m not super impressed. I wonder what the color has to do with Kate (or Catherine– it’s not like we’re friends or anything!)

I would expect a blue to match her engagement ring and dress. Maybe a duo set with a blue and silver?

  12. Alicia says:

I hated the application of this polish. I’m wearing it now, and after one day of wear I’ve chipped 4 nails.

  13. OK, I just looked at the Nails Inc ones online and the Kate polish is exactly what I had in mind. And I like the Royal Collection, though it’s hard to tell what the colors really look like.

  14. Mea says:

I’ve worn it layered over Essie’s Merino Cool and really loved it – it brings out the dusty purple and gives it a little more pop. I’m looking forward to layering it other colors – depending on the shade this could be a good layering polish.

P.S. Longtime reader, first time post!

  15. Tams says:

Oh wow I can’t believe so many don’t like this one, I got it and I LOVE it so I even got a backup bottle! I don’t care about the royal wedding catch but I think it’s such a pretty color on it’s own. And now I want to know about the Nails Inc collections lol, thanks a lot!! ;-P

  16. Andraea says:

If you do find a good layering solution, please post it :) The name and the concept are great but on-nail it’s just not wow’ing me.

And just for the record, your 365 of untrieds is murdering my poor little abused wallet. Thank you!! I’m still trying to find a dupe for RBL’s Drifter though :(

  17. Camille says:

I just ordered this last night and now I’m sort of scared of what I’m going to get… I’ll be honest I caved at the name and the association with the wedding, I’m getting married next month so I think I’m just in the wedding mood! I hope I like it more than most of the other posters :-/

  18. Chris says:

For me, the story behind this polish is more interesting than the actual color. I agree with you about the royals. I don’t mind the hype surrounding the wedding, it’s the product pushing that is distasteful.

  19. kelz86 says:

Not a big fan of this colour! I thought it looked good in the bottle but not on the nails!

  20. Barb says:

Laying with Zoya’s Caitlyn is one possible solution.
    It looks awesome……

  21. Luka says:

I think the color is because purple is historically symbolic of royalty

  22. Lauren says:

I totally agree. I pre-ordered this polish and it wasn’t at all what I was expecting based on the initial description. I was so surprised it was a true glitter… I thought it was micro glitter. I was bummed since I’m not really into glitters other than Deborah Lippmann’s.

  23. I was as disappointed as everyone else seems to be too. I was dying waiting for this polish to arrive and even in the bottle thought it was awesome. But it looked like a dull grey with a tiny bit of shimmy. The jelly-aspect seemed more goopy to me, and I honestly don’t understand what the colors have to do with the wedding. Blech! If I were designing this, I might do a sapphire sparkle or maybe even a bright red for the jacket she is seen in often!

  24. Hollie says:

I think the base color is too dirty looking as well. Wish it was a brighter lavender.

  25. Andrea says:

It is really a pretyy one maybe some topcoat on it will give it glossy finish

  26. Katy says:

It’s come to the point where the whiners are more annoying than the hype over the wedding ever was.

The color does nothing for me, though maybe being layered will help.

  27. NailPolishFan says:

I think it would look pretty layered over a dark nail polish color like a dark purple, smoked out purple,or even black but on its own it’s okay. The one thing that I know that I’m going to watch is E!’s Fashion Police.

  28. Caitlin says:

I bought this too, half to have an awesome souvineer of the wedding, and half because i thought it looked lovely.

I’m currently wearing it over OPI’s I Vant To Be A Lone Star & it looks very sweet. I think it’s an awesome layering polish tbh. you need about 3 coats to get it decent on it’s own.

  29. Naekubi says:

It’s surprisingly disappointing, given its look in the bottle.

  30. Karen says:

I don’t like the look of this polish and I’m fed up of companies making merchandise to sell us that’s Royal Wedding themed, mostly they get it wrong, like this shade. Nails Inc Royal Wedding ones are more “royal” but too expensive! Most of the

  31. Janne says:

    Hi!

I was wondering if you could do me a huge favour and help me find a dupe for OPIs Cherry Blossom – I love the color but the formula just doesnt work for me.

I really love Essie shades so if you have a tip for me it would be greatly appreciated :)

    Kind regards Janne

  32. PattyK says:

I have this polish. I agree, it’s not that nice alone. But I do like it over other purples, light or dark. I’ve tried it on Dior Purple Mix, Zoya Lael and OPI Parlez-Vous OPI.

  33. lciaravi says:

    Hi,
I am squarely in the “I don’t care a fig about the royal wedding” camp. I’d MUCH rather watch baseball. But, chacun a son gout!
Enjoy it if that’s what rings your bells.

  34. SiennaX says:

TBH, I was dying to get this and when I did, it was a disappointment. I find the color a bit depressing. When I wore it, it was just blah. With the name, I thought it would be more of a bolder color. A color that was exciting, like the feelings Kate had when William proposed.

  35. Silva says:

Well, this is disappointing. I thought it would be more sparkly and special…

  36. JDV says:

I’m actually intrigued by this polish, and not just for the name. Unfortunately the website doesn’t seem to be working for me right now but I’ll check it out later. It will all depend on how much they want for shipping.

Otherwise I’m still digging the wedding thing, which kind of surprises me. I’m off work friday (by coincidence) so I plan to get up early to watch.

  37. Faye says:

My husband is British and he could care less about the royal wedding. He said he’s still bitter at having an important soccer match rescheduled due to the Diana-Charles wedding when he was a boy :).

As for the polish, I did like the color, a lot, but frankly, I found the name awfully offensive. I know the “Wait-y Kate-y” moniker came from the British tabloid press, not the nail polish company, but does a company run by women making products for women have to perpetuate a catty nickname that all likelihood was coined by some misogynistic male hack on Fleet Street?

    • Susan says:

Preach, sister! :) You are so right. The media’s treatment of Kate *as a woman,* regardless of how little I care about her or the royal family in general, is part of what’s grating on me so much about this wedding. Enough is enough!

(Sorry to be such a hater, LOL!)

  38. Cat says:

I love love love purple polish and I want to like this, but I’m not totally sold. I am looking forward to the royal wedding and was thinking of doing a “royal” manicure but this doesn’t capture my fancy. Agree with the other readers that this might look really nice layered over something else, but on it’s own it’s not so great. I looked at Nails Inc online… sad to see they don’t ship overseas!

  39. meme says:

I can take a pass on this one. Does not excite me. Tried like many of scrubbing off glitters. I do like to overlay a sheer that has a sparkle to it – sort of think that is what I expected this shade to be – something with sparkle, not glitter as it’s more of a sparkle time. Not many tasteful brides wear glitter! But then this is not made to be a bridal color – just paying homage to Kate’s now almost gone days of being able to get away in public at least with things like glitter polish!

  40. Susan says:

I actually love this, despite its connection to the accursed Royal Wedding. I agree with the person who said it looks “dirty and cool.” It reminds me of a glitter version of SOPI’s Metro Chic. I would definitely wear this or layer it… but I don’t know if I love quite enough to pay $14 plus shipping.

  41. carrie says:

I’m ordering it. Love the sparkles and the name got me too:)

  42. Iris says:

This is a dupe for a cheap Afterthoughts polish I bought for three bucks in 1994. Bleh.

    • Susan says:

Afterthoughts! Is that still around? I wish they still had the color you bought, LOL. I do think there must be dupes for this out there, either way.

  43. Kara says:

the smokey lavender part looks cool…I just don’t really like the glitter.

  44. Stephanie says:

Confession: The other night I went to my friend’s place and we decided to turn on the tv while we ate dinner (this is a rare treat for me, since I do not have a tv). It happened to be on Lifetime and we caught the very beginning of the movie they made about William and Kate. I watched the whole thing because it was one of those car-accident-can’t-look-away deals, but I really don’t understand the fascination with these people. THIS is why people think Americans are annoying.

Another confession: I do want to see what she’ll wear. Yeah, I said it.

  45. Helena says:

I like it for its weirdness. I don’t give a flying crap about the wedding, though, and wish everyone not in England would shut up.

  46. Brenda says:

This is probably my least favorite butterLONDON shades. I was so disappointed when I got mine. It’s such a shame too. Not much of a tribute to Kate whatsoever in my opinion.

  47. Faye says:

Actually, Stephanie, most polls show that a majority of people in the U.S. don’t really care about the wedding and won’t be watching it. And most of the crazy hype, hysteria, and nutty souveniers are from England. So if anything, it would make the British annoying, not Americans. Although I think it doesn’t . . . just a bit cheesy perhaps.

  48. Bet says:

Try it over Opi’s A Grape Fit, looks great

  49. Grace says:

Wow. After reading all the comments and this blog post, I guess I shouldn’t buy it… Darn. I have definitly been swept up by the Royal Wedding. I really wanted to like this polish, but it sounds like you get the quality of a cheap polish for one that is quite expensive. I would actually buy it if the name were something a little nicer, like “William and Kate”. That doesn’t go with the color, but it isn’t embaressing >:(

  50. I did not get this polish and I think all the hype is because of the name. From all the reviews I read everyone is “MEH” about it and say it is best layered over another color. I can not justify spending what it costs for a color that does not work on its own.

FYI butter LONDON created a lip gloss no more katie waity lippy and I find it funny that on butter London’s website it says not available for UK customers who I would think would be the ones who would want it

    • Sarah says:

You make the assumption that actual British people care about things like the Royal Wedding more than foreign anglophiles do. I felt like it was more hyped and romanticised across the pond than here, and I live in the Royal Landscape – of all places, where you’d expect there to be a lot of excitement. There was a lot of celebrating, but I feel like it was mainly put on for the tourists.

  51. Mc Huggs says:

    HI again Michelle:

I found an interesting phenomena with this same polish on another web blog, Mary’s “Body and Soul,” She also swatched this color polish, and the remarks were quite different than on your web blog.

Myself, I love the nail color and the micro glitters, however, the comments coming from your web bloggers are completely different than on the “Body and Soul” web blog.

My question is, “does this happen allot?” Does one web blogger have different opinions than other web bloggers on the same nail polish?

I have never found this to be true, until the review of this Butter London Nail Polish?

    Love,

    Mc Huggs :)

  52. circusgirl says:

I didn’t acquire this polish because of the royal wedding hype or the name. I just LOVE IT. And I love it just the way it is. I wouldn’t layer it over anything. This is not an average purple polish with glitter. This dusty purple has class, and the subdued glitter in it just adds to the classiness. Pure perfection.

p.s. Love your blog Michelle! And I’m enjoying the 365 of Untrieds!

  53. ggggg says:

I really love the color but, alas, it won’t be mine as I just can’t afford the cost.

Regarding the name, I think they could have given it a nicer name – I just think it’s mean.

Yes, I have been sucked into the Royal Wedding excitement. It’s royalty after all and we just don’t have that here.

  54. MissDeeCanada says:

I would of totally purchased this one if it was a better colour. I thought that the name was super cute with all its royalty. Why that colour was chosen is beyond me.

  55. Jeanne says:

Fugly. Don’t know how anyone could wear this passably (is that a word?) lol
Love your blog, keep up the untried challenge!!! I’m loving it.

  56. Ruthless says:

I think this is gorgeous, I can’t wait to see if my local store has it in. I think ALL of Butter London’s names are pretty awful. Well most of them, anyways

  57. AshleyKei says:

It’s now available at Ulta for anyone who is interested.

  58. Julia says:

I’m not a huge fan of this colour, if it wasn’t for the name, I wouldn’t think it was associated with the royal wedding at all. But maybe it would look better as a layering sheer?

  59. jessika says:

i wore this over zoya’s caitlin and i loved it. dont be so quick to judge this color lady’s
its a diamond in the rough

  60. Pam U says:

I REALLY didn’t like NMWK on its lonesome, but layered over various purple polishes it’s simply delicious!

  61. Katie says:

I have a fascination with things named Katie, because, well, that is my name. :) I googled Katie nail polish, which brought me to the bL nail polish, which i hadn’t heard about before then. I searched to see if ALU had a post about it, and ironically, it was made on my birthday (April 26). I think I have to buy this nail polish now
