OPI Texas Collection for Spring/Summer 2011 – Creme & Shimmer Swatches, Review & Comparisons

opi texas collection for spring 2011 The stars at night are big and bright
Deep in the heart of Texas

~Deep in the Heart of Texas lyrics by June Hershey

Tell me you can hear those lyrics and NOT clap your hands. Go ahead, tell me! This Spring, OPI is venturing down south to the Lone Star state of Texas. In the past OPI has focused on areas within the US (Painted Desert, New England) or specific cities (New York City, Chicago) but this is the first time I can remember where and entire state has been the inspiration for a collection.

The OPI Texas Collection for Spring/Summer 2011 is standard in that it consists of twelve polishes but for the first time there is a definitive dividing line between each set of six shades.  OPI is introducing their take on the beloved jelly texture with six “sorbet” style polishes; semi-sheer colors with a lucite look.  Before we tackle the sorbet lacquers let’s examine the creme & shimmer polishes.

Formula & Application: OPI is a 3-Free brand. They made the switch to 3-Free in 2008. You can identify an OPI with the 3-Free formula by the green lettering on the label. Bottles with black lettering have the old formula. Always check the labels to be sure. The OPI Pro Wide brush is flat, wide and medium in length. It’s of average stiffness and easily spreads out on the nail when pressed. The only downside to the Pro Wide brush is that it can be too wide for slim fingers or little toes.

This half of the Texas collection consists of three cremes, one opaque shimmer and two semi-sheer micro-glitters. The cremes all applied with a squishy texture that reminded me of China Glaze while the opaque shimmer (I Want To Be A-lone Star) had a creamier feel. The opacity with all four is spot on with each color.  They only required two coats.  The micro-glitters didn’t fare as well.  After three coats I could still see my smile line through each one.

I Vant To Be A-lone Star is a pale pastel blue packed with silver shimmer.  It straddles the line between baby blue and white.  I was really impressed at how well it applied considering how light the color is.  A polish this light tends to either be thick and streaky or watery and semi-sheer.

I’m sure a lot of you thought the same thing, that I Vant To Be A-lone Star is a dupe for China Glaze Sea Spray or Essie Sag Harbor.  We were all wrong.  The other two are darker with less obvious shimmer.  Unlike its pale blue predecessors, I Vant To Be A-lone Star’s shimmer isn’t hiding from anyone.

San Tan-tonio is a sandy beige color.  It’s a bit warmer than it appears on screen and reminds me a lot of CND Desert Suede.  Something about this type of color makes me think of bad foundation.  It’s just not flattering with my skin tone.  I could see this looking stellar on someone with an olive or darker complexion.

OPI Austin-tatious Turquoise looks like a vibrant aquamarine hue in the bottle but on the nail it comes off lighter with a dirty gray undertone.  The blue metallic shimmer and micro-glitter paired with the semi-sheer turquoise base looked promising it’s pretty muddled on my nails.

It’s Totally Fort Worth It has a shimmery pale grey base filled with pink micro-glitter.  Like Austin-tacious Turquoise it has a muddy quality that appears a bit dirty.  Normally I’m all about a “greyed” anything but it doesn’t work in this case.  Throw in semi-sheer coverage and I”m all “Mismas out!”  Sorry, it’s Idol season.

Suzi Loves Cowboys is one of the truest brown cremes I’ve come across in a while.  There’s no dominating red or black base color pulling it towards warm/cool territory.  It’s like a liquid Hershey bar.  The squishy jelly-like texture had me thinking it might need three coats to go opaque but I was happy to only need two.

Don’t Mess With OPI is a rich grass green creme.  For some reason when I uploaded my swatch image, WordPress changed the colors making it look WAY more muted than it appears in person.  I can’t get it to load with the proper shade so I really wouldn’t go by this picture.  DMWO is pretty bright in person but not like kelly green bright.  It’s definitely darker like what I think of as a shamrock green.

I did a comparison with China Glaze Starboard and Essie Pretty Edgy and again, the colors didn’t appear right after the image was uploaded (If you know why this happens, EMAIL ME!).  What I can tell you is that both Starboard and Pretty Edgy are lighter shades than DMWO.  I would say Starboard and Pretty Edgy are more closely related with Starboard being more muted compared to the astroturf-esque Pretty Edgy.

Bottom Line: Regardless of whether these colors represent the state of Texas well, there doesn’t seem to be a cohesive theme here.  Maybe I just don’t get it.  Now you know I’m always on board where greens are concerned so Don’t Mess With OPI gets a definite thumbs up.  I love the obvious shimmer in I Vant To Be A-lone Star and having a solid brown creme like Suzi Love Cowboys is a great addition to any collection so those both get my stamp of approval.  The rest are a pass.

The OPI Texas Collection is available now at salons and spas nationwide.  OPI nail polishes retail for $8.95/ea for a .5oz bottle.  You can find OPI at national chains including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and Ulta.

Thoughts on this half of the Texas Collection? Do the Texan fanatics out there feel this collection represents everything great about the Lone Star State? Which colors made your list of must-haves?

I thought “melted chocolate” with SLC too! OPI stated on their Facebook page that this collection ( either all of it, or just the “Sorbet Finish Ones”) had the Formaldehyde Resin removed too, thus obviously making them “4-free”. A fan who had an allergy asked about a particular sorbet color and OPI responded that this was the first collection that the resin was removed. Just thought I’d share that tidbit! LOL Can’t wait to see the next 6, great work!

  2. paiiige says:

totally agree with the “non-cohesive theme” comment–i want so, so badly to love a Texas-themed collection (as the state is a second home to me!) but there’s just nothing… compelling about it.

  3. sara says:

I have Don’t Mess with OPI and Suzi Loves Cowboys. I love DMWO (although on me it was almost exactly the same as Starboard and Pretty Edgy seemed lighter and brighter than both… weird). I haven’t tried SLC yet, but it’s on my list.

  4. Sonja says:

I moved from TX to Chicago about 6 mo. ago, and I haven’t decided about the collection as a whole, but Austin-tatious Turquoise does remind me of Lady Bird Lake. I always looked pretty and sparkly during my morning walks, but also a bit dirty. LOL

  5. Lauren says:

Love I Want To Be A-lone Star! And Suzi Loves Cowboys is a great staple. I’m totally with you on not getting the “collection.” So random.

  6. Grace says:

I don’t think I need any of these. Starboard and Seaspray might not be official dupes, but they’re close enough for me, and half the price of the OPIs. I was pretty disappointed in this whole collection, and their attempt to claim that their “sorbet” finish is something new is just lame. I picked up Houston We Have A Purple a few weeks ago, but haven’t actually tried it yet. I’m looking forward to your swatches.

  7. Maybe the colour change could be due to your screen resolution? Just a quick question, would you say Don’t Mess With OPI is a dupe for Barry M’s Spring Green? Only I noticed you have a swatch for Spring Green here http://www.alllacqueredup.com/2009/04/barry-m-nail-paints.html
As I already have Spring Green but I am a sucker for green nail polish and may not be able to resist DMWO! Thank you for the lovely swatches xx

  8. Andrea says:

From this part of the collection I ordered “Suzi Loves Cowboys” and “Don’t Mess With OPI”. I also got “Austin-Tatious Turquoise” for my friend because her little son’s name is Austin. Cute! But they haven’t arrived yet.

I’m most excited for “SLC”! Chocolate brown is such a great colour and it’s so rare to find one that isn’t warm-toned and red-ish looking.

Can’t wait for the second part of your post. Thanks.

  9. LOL “bad foundation”!!!

  10. Emily says:

Honestly I am so not thrilled by this collection. its not cohesive and semi-original. not exciting by any means. I did buy I want to be a lone star and the turquoise one but only in a temporary moment of insanity. OPI needs to step it up.

  11. Sirena says:

I already own Sag Harbor and Sea Spray, but is still cannot wait for I Vant To Be A-Lone Star!! I love that shimmer is more noticeable.

  12. Sirena says:

I already own Sag Harbor and Sea Spray, but I still cannot wait for I Vant To Be A-Lone Star!! I love that shimmer is more noticeable.

  13. Andraea says:

Honestly, this collection did absolutely nothing for me. If I were the type of person to wear browns and have them look flattering, I’d buy SLC, but… yeah, no. I’m looking forward to see what else OPI brings us this summer.

  14. Jaztee says:

Personally I would’ve preferred a few Dallas references. A who shot JR red would’ve made my day. But we can’t have everything. I think Suzi loves Cowboys is my favourite because as you said, it isn’t red or blue based, it’s a proper chocolate colour. Look forward to seeing the remaining 6!

    • Karen says:

“who shot JR red” is just too funny!

Michelle – thanks for the great review. I think I will be buying at least a couple of these including the melted hershey bar!

  15. janna says:

I lived in San Antonio for over 20 years, and still think of it as home, so I wanted to love this collection, especially San Tan-tonio. I bought it and Do You Think I’m Tex-y, but I can’t even bring myself to try San Tan-tonio – I like a nice nude/beige, but you’re so right about it looking like bad foundation! I did wear Do You Think I’m Tex-y last week and liked it – but I don’t love it. All in all, I’m disappointed…

  16. Melanie says:

Overall, I am not terribly excited about this collection. I did purchase I Vant to be a Lone Star, as that was the only one that looked interesting to me. I got quite a few compliments when I wore it.

  17. Ofelia says:

Love santonio but would look terrible on my skin too

  18. Jamie says:

I saw this collection in ulta and really none of them had the grab and buy me now quality.
I’m skipping this collection and going to continue to play with my crackle polishes.

  19. Jessica says:

I’m much more into the other half of the collection! I only bought the orange so far, though. I have Milani – Techno Red from their neon collection, and I think it might be dupey for the reddish sorbet. I forget the name.

  20. Maria says:

I really wanted to get ChG Sea Spray — maybe I still can.

Most web browsers don’t display colors properly. If you google “internet browser color” you’ll find a bunch of information about this. Basically they ignore the color profiles of images that you display in them. I suspect that uploading the photos isn’t the problem so much as just viewing them in a browser. On top of that, you’ve got the problem that no two monitors really display colors the same anyway. It’s a continual struggle.

  21. I thought the collection was lame and that sorbet thing was boo, but there were some bright spots.
It’s weird how muted your Austin-tatious Turquiose came out though…mine was alot brighter. Maybe because I used mad coats.

  22. Justine says:

I like the green one, but I may get the China Glaze instead. The others don’t appeal to me yet.

  23. Pam R says:

How do you think Suzi Loves Cowboy compares to Essie’s Little Brown Dress? I love, love, love brown polishes, but they look the same to me. I’ve already got LBD, so no need for another.

  24. KaylaJ says:

My mother is none too happy that San Antonio is represented by a brown color. She thought that it should’ve been something like Rose Alamo’ed

  25. Silva says:

    San Tan-Tonio looks gorgeous!

  26. meme says:

SLC is really a dark shade for a spring collection. Odd that this was not in a fall grouping – some other part of the coo-coo clock maybe. I do like it is a tish more Hershey looking than Susie says Da. So for that reason alone it might be the next color I buy from OPI. I was looking like goofy for browns last fall and really was falling flat. Now with some research finding good ones – like Zoya Wicked collection – Cheryl (a fab shimmer brown that I can wear yr round and not get tired of it). Cannot wait to see your #2 swatches/comments on the OPI Texas line. Don’t wait too long – we all are anxious.

  27. Laura says:

I Want To Be A-lone Star and Suzi Loves Cowboys look amazing.

  28. Steph says:

Yeah, this collection does nothing for me either and I’m a huge OPI fan.

  29. Kellie says:

OPI Austin-tatious Turquoise looks like a less sparklyy version of Charla. Possible dupe?

  30. Suzanne says:

I have a couple of the brights from this collection and have been loving them. Jess has the Don’t Mess with OPI and San Tan-tonio and the Don’t Mess with OPI is pretty awesome. I think San Tan-tonio would be a good color in the middle of the summer when I am tan, tan, tan.

  31. Scienter says:

I was skeptical about this collection when I saw the preview pics. Now that I’ve seen them on a real person, I think I will pass on all of them except for Suzi Loves Cowboys because I don’t have a true brown creme. I’m torn on Don’t Mess with OPI, I love greens, but in your comparison, I like the CG Starboard better. How does Starboard compare to Jade is the New Black?

  32. Ang. says:

Looking at the picture of the six bottles together I immediately thought of the artwork of cowboy artists like John Marcellus “Tex” Moore. These six colors totally say “west Texas landscape” to me. I’m looking forward to your swatches of the sorbet finishes.

  33. Jen says:

    Totally under-whelmed with this collection!

  34. Traci says:

Could you do a comparison to Dont Mess with OPI and Jade is the new Black please?? I swear they look identical, and I am debating on if I really need to have both! LOL Thank you!!! :-)

    • meghann says:

I was just wondering the same thing. I was in the store earlier and had both bottles in my hand and couldnt tell a differance between them. But I want to know how they look once applied.

  35. Luka says:

Texas is a geographically lacking state and these polishes are equally boring

    • Texas Proud! says:

Texas has 5 geographic regions… You want to talk about something then get it right… Don’t mess with Texas! The brown and tan are earthy, like our desert regions and farmland. The green is like the trees in all of our forests. Austin-tatious turquoise looks like the gulf when the sun is shining, and if you’ve ever seen a sunset here that goes on forever than you will understand the pinks and oranges.

  36. Heidi says:

As a homesick Texan, I am sad there is not a burnt orange (OPI should have waited to use Chop-Sticking to my Story for this collection) or a Bluebonnet blue in this collection!

I bought the whole collection and am wearing my fourth color from it already (DMWO). I liked Austin-tatious Turquoise, as it was a fun color to wear and it does fit Austin, but application and removal was such a pain. It took me three coats to get a solid cover.

  37. Erin says:

Don’t know where they got their inspiration, but it wasn’t from Texas!
    Bluebonnets!!!! Hello??

  38. Kira says:

I’ve lived 93% of my life in Texas, and I was looking forward to the collection. But once we got beyond bottle pics and color descriptions, I was thoroughly disappointed.

I think they came up with the colors and then decided to “name” them after Texas, because I don’t think this collection has much at all to do with the state.

None of the colors stand out for me, and not one finish is unique. Dull, doldrum, boring, basic. Just what I’ve come to expect from OPI. I won’t be purchasing any.

  39. Michelle says:

I love the Texas Collection. I can’t get enough of the Sorbet like shades. It’s something different and fun!

  40. Sarah says:

As a Texan, no, it was not representative of the state at all in color choices. Very sad, since the state is so huge and diverse that they could have had an awesome collection. And thank you for finally calling out the lack of cohesiveness in the collection! Aside from the six sorbets, it looks like random odds and ends from other collections tossed together with half a jelly collection that wasn’t fully fleshed out, color-wise. Rather disappointing on the whole. I’ve tried again and again to like any of these, but it’s just not there. (And the “bad foundation” comment is dead-on. Couldn’t quite place why that shade bothered me so much, but that’s it exactly.)

  41. Gin says:

Aw, sad about OPI Austin-tatious Turquoise. That’s the one I wanted most–it was actually in my hand at Ulta but I changed my mind at the last minute (I wanted to wait for swatches!). Now I want I Want To Be A-lone Star instead!

  42. Chynna says:

I passed on all of these except Austin-tatious Turquoise, which I mostly bought because I live in Austin and felt like I couldn’t pass it up. I did get 4 of the ‘sorbet’ shades and I’ve been really pleased with them.

  43. Altea says:

I’d like to see the comparison with jade is the new black too.
I’ve seen other swatches of DMWO and it looks identical to JITNB, in your pictures it looks different but then you say they’re not accurate and I’m confused again.

  44. Cat says:

Yeah, nothing about this collection particularly grabs me. Nor does it really scream “Texas!” to me either. I agree with the comments that there doesn’t seem to be any cohesion with this collection. The only one of these polishes that really jumped out to me was “I Want to be A-Lone Star”. I might pick up “Suzi Loves Cowboys” because I don’t really have any browns in my collection. “It’s Totally Fort Worth It” kind of looks similar to SOPI’s Run With It, which I just happen to be wearing right now.

  45. Julianne says:

I agree with the general consensus that “I want to be a-lone star” and “Don’t mess with OPI,” are the stand-outs. Personally I think they were the only really noteworthy colors so far.

Am I the only one who was EXTREMELY disappointed that there was no yellow? My first thought when I heard there would be a Texas collections was that I could wait to see what they’d do with the yellow rose of Texas.

  46. ReaderRita says:

Thank you for the comparisons to I Want To Be A-lone Star and Don

  47. Emily says:

How does Don’t Mess With OPI compare to Jade Is The New Black?

  48. Maddie says:

I must say…I was not that thrilled about this collection when the ads came out, but after buying the whole collection, let me just say that I LOVE it. The colors are gorgeous, wonderful formulas, something new and fresh for spring. I love love loved that OPI took a risk and tried something new with the “Sorbet” finish, and colors that wouldn’t necessarily be considered “spring” colors, like brown and tan. This is def my fave OPI collection since fall 09′s Espana, another gorgeous but underrated collection that I adooored.

  49. Claire says:

I’m a Houstonian and have lived in Texas for most of my life, so I feel qualified to comment. haha I think what OPI was going for with this collection was the “less obvious”, and I agree with another comment that these colors are more landscape oriented. I wish they would’ve have included more shimmery and bright, jeweltone shades but that would’ve been too obvious–that’s what everyone expects of Texas, and we are sooo much more than that! :o) The Houston Chronicle newspaper had a feature on this collection this past week, and an interview with the head OPI lady. In it she mentioned that she designed the colors to pair well with the neutrals that are so popular right now. I can see that inspiration, and I think it was a good tack to take. That being said, the only shade I’ve purchased from this collection so far is Do You Think I’m Tex-y, which I think is fantastic and so very pretty. Can’t wait to read what you have to say about the other half of this collection!

  50. Kristina says:

It’s Totally Ft Worth it wound up being way too sheer for my taste..works better as a top coat. I put it over China Glaze Pelican Gray and it looked fab! The other colors seem like repeats to me, but if you don’t have anything like them, I’m sure they would be great.

  51. Lillian says:

Don’t Mess With OPI seems like a slightly brighter version of Jade is the New Black from the Hong Kong collection. :/ Suzi Loves Cowboys seems like a great staple.
Can’t wait for the other 6 swatches!

  52. maya says:

I love Austin-tatious Turquoise. It’s stunning but requires 3 coats. The pale blue and green are great as well. I don’t like brown, so this one I’ll pass.

  53. Grace says:

Honestly, as a Texan, I’m rather fond of this collection… while I don’t feel it seems as cohesive as others in a way this pleases me… they’re dealing with a large state that has a lot of stereotypes floating around which don’t even apply to majority of the people living here. I don’t think they stuck to stereotypes too terribly much in terms of colors, which is good – I know a lot of ladies who would of been annoyed about this… they definitely could of made a better story, but it could of been far worse.

Also, funny enough, up in the Ulta’s, etc… through Dallas Sand-Antonio is ALWAYS sold out when there are still a few bottles of other colors from the Texas collection floating around.

  54. katie says:

I was a little let down by this collection but I LOVE the jellies in it. I have Too Hot Pink To Hold Em’ and Guy Meets Galveston. You can wear them on their own but I prefer to layer them over white nail lacquer.

  55. Lynn says:

I picked up I Vant to be A-lone Star and Austin-tatious Turquoise about a month ago when I first saw them at Ulta. I am so pleased with Lone Star, I chose it over Sea Spray because of the obvious shimmer. And I had Austin on for about 5 days which is a record for me, it looked great with my skin tone and I did about 4 coats which really built up the color. Next on my list is Suzi Loves Cowboys… I think I need it after seeing your swatches!!

  56. Alllison says:

suzi loves cowboys and I’m a lone star! love them and will great when I have a freaking tan.

  57. Holly says:

These colors are not reflective of Texas. This is most apparent by the use of a neon orange – anyone in their right mind knows the orange must be *burnt*. No UT fan would wear that and pass it off as orange. I got the Don’t Mess with OPI solely for St Patty’s Day – it looked shamrock green to me.

    • Cindy says:

I sent an email to OPI several years ago about introducing the “College”series. I suggested HOOK’EM Orange, Gig’em, o-who, (haha), USC-ya later, Bear Claw (green/gold micro glitter)…no response from them. I found out today that Orly has “Texas Orange” and “HOOK’EM Orange”. OPI dropped the ball on this one….

  58. kaylie says:

I’m not to fond of this collection, it doesn’t seem very original. I’m still up in the air on buying some of the colours.

  59. Briana says:

I agree this seems like a really random collection, like they had some ideas for new colours they just grabbed them all together and called it Texas. Regardless there are some gorgeous colours in there, I think Suzi loves chocolate will be on the top of my list, along with I want to be a lone star. Theres also an orange in the collection that Im really liking the look of.
lol at “bad foundation” thats exactly what its like lol

  60. Chris says:

I think I have found my mannequin hands shade in San Tan-tonio. I may also get Houston We Have A Purple.

  61. Elizabeth says:

I love San Tan-tonio! I have always loved kind of nudish colors and this color is one that I need to own asap! :) Thanks for the descriptive review

  62. Texskiss says:

I like the Turquoise color the best~~the lighter colors won’t look as good with my skintone! I just purchased OPI The Color To Watch and am eager to try it out! :)

  63. Barbara says:

I will buy Suzi Loves Cowboys because I do not have a true brown in my collection, but I think I’ll put it away until next October – it just does not say “spring and summer” to me. I can’t wait to see your reviews of the other half of the collection.

  64. Olivia says:

Is it weird that I am from Texas (San Antonio) and I have never ever heard that song. When I moved to Florida for a year everyone asked me to sing that song and I was like… what song?? I don’t know any song.

  65. Hey do you know what colour katy perry was wearing while promoting her perfume in germany? It looks like it could be teenage dream but I

    • All Lacquered Up says:

I know she likes to wear Gelish a lot so I would guess she was wearing one of their colors but I’m not sure which one. The glittery pink in her OPI collection was inspired by Gelish June Bride, that she wears often so that could be it but with the camera lighting it’s hard to tell.

  66. Mel says:

    Yes, I LOVE San Tan-tonio!!!

Otherwise, I’m underwhelmed by this collection. I don’t know… maybe I’m missing something, but the colors together feel misplaced. Hodge-podge, like. Meh.

  67. stephanie says:

yeah this collection is a definite fail in my opinion. i was so disappointed when i saw it, and i totally agree with you on the randomness of it all. it feels like they just came up with this collection as an after thought or something and decided to throw in random colors they thought would be pretty. the only ones i like are SLC and i want to be a lone star.

  68. Elle says:

Blah, blah, blah. I hate this collection. What’s next up for OPI?

  69. I love this collection! I cant wait to try them all:)

    Beautyfromscratch

  70. Christine says:

I love the Texas theme and enjoy the variety of the colors. I have San Tan-tonio and it’s awesome on me. My husband typically hates any brown or beige polishes and even he thought it was cool and different! It’s too bad they didn’t do a “Yellow Rose of Texas”!

    • bb says:

I’m surprised too that there’s no “Yellow Rose”. Also LOL-ing with the UT Longhorn who wanted a more orange-clay brown, though there’s no Aggies’ colors either – that might’ve re-ignited a war, hahaha.

I like San Tan-tonio; looks like it might make a nice spring mani/pedi.

  71. Frankenstyna says:

I only really like the “sorbet” shades. “Houston We Have A Purple” is my favorite. I think the sorbets would be fun to layer over each other.

I think it was a bit of a stretch for OPI to try to claim that their “sorbet” finish is something new. I guess if someone has never seen jellies, then maybe they would believe them? Kinda lame, IMO.

And how close of a dupe is “Don’t Mess With OPI” to “Jade Is The New Black”? Looked to me like they are extremely similar, but “DMWO” has a grassier green feel to it while “JITNB” has a slight bluer tone.

  72. Jimmy K. Designs says:

thanks for this! i didn’t even know this collection was coming out! so behind :(

  73. flipflopgal says:

Are you going to swatch the other half? (I know reds aren’t your favorite :P) I missed out on the Lippman I Want Candy red jelly goodness & I’m wondering how the red “sorbet” colors compare? I’ve read they might be similar, enough to satisfy my craving (for the red at least! if anyone knows of a dupe for the navy rehab color, I’m all ears!!)

  74. Sheila says:

I want to be A-lone star and Suzi loves cowboys are my favorite. It’s hard to find a perfect nail polish with the perfect brush and which is applied perfectly. These seems to tend perfection so I go and buy them :D

  75. Alison says:

Wow. I am so in love with San Tan-tonio. Sadly, like you, I just don’t think it’ll work with my skin tone. Nice collection, although I just am not finding the greens to be something I’d wear in my daily life. Maybe I should branch out?

  76. Andrea says:

    Are you posting the rest?

  77. Melissa says:

I saw this collection at Ulta a while ago and didn’t find it impressive at all. I agree with you that the lone-star polish is very pretty, but the rest just look cheap and boring. pretty disapointing =(

  78. Laura says:

Thanks, I really love your site!
    Just a question,
My bottle says I Vant to be A-lone Star, while on the site you call it “I Want…”
    Which is the correct spelling?

  79. Andrea says:

Sorry, meant to say when are you posting the rest. I’m undecided whether to get any and wanted to see your swatches first.

  80. Katelyn says:

I’m a Texan, born and raised, and I was so excited when I heard OPI was going to do a Texas-themed collection, but I agree with you: this was a completely underwhelming collection. My first thought was that the collection was not at all Texan, but I slowly came to change my mind. While the “sorbet” shades do not at all seem like Texas to me (maybe more Hawaii? Or the highlighter factory?), this half of the collection gets a bit closer. Suzi Loves Comboys, San Tan-tonio, and Totally Fort Worth It all fit the Texas vibe. Austin-tatious, while it doesn’t particular scream Texas, definitely screams Austin.

If I were putting a Texas collection together myself, I would pick Suzi Loves Cowboys, San Tan-tonio, and Totally Fort Worth It, and throw in a rich blue creme (no shimmer), a nice red (with just a tiny bit of shimmer), and the University of Texas trademark burnt orange. Seriously, that’s the color that seemed most missing from a Texas collection.

Does anyone else feel a strong sense of Deja-vu? I feel like I’ve been seeing these colors for the past month (butter london’s lady muck, RBL decorous, Chanel white pearl…) bleh

  82. Alix says:

The colors are okay, but I realize I’m getting reallllly tired of pun-based names of OPI’s colors. Enough already!

  83. Karen says:

When will a review of the rest of the collection be posted?

  84. maya says:

I love Austin-tatious Turquoise, it’s an amazing blue-green, the pale blue and Don’t Mess with Opi.

  85. Lisa says:

Will you be discussing the rest of the collection soon?

  86. Jim says:

Austin-tatious Turquoise looks lighter than it does in other pictures I’ve seen. How many coats does it need to look more like it does in the bottle?

    • All Lacquered Up says:

My picture is lighter than others and not accurate because of the file format. It’s actually on my list to be fixed

  87. Ellie says:

Love’ the grey blueish nail polish…do u know if sag harbor by Essie is abailable at ultra? It’s a nice color”

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Sag Harbor was a limited edition shade so the only place you might be able to find it is eBay but I shutter to think how high the price is.

  88. Ellie says:

Yeah’ I thought so…. I’ve check some opi varnish online and w/ the s&h they sure come up the same price as ulta. O well luckily I purchase sum trught craeglist but one of them was defective w two Brisels out of it’s place and chipped from the tube, I called the seller back and didn’t exchange it..like bitch” I was gona go back and purchase more. But 2for $10 wasn’t bad at all. I guess. O well then’ thnxs thou..

  89. Chelsea says:

I love San Tan-Tonio! I think its a great neutral color for fall!
