Get The Look – Lady Gaga’s Yellow Nails At The 2011 Grammys

The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards took place tonight and even though I was out to dinner during the majority of the show, I knew there was some MAJOR nail news happening when I saw Deborah Lippmann tweet, “I Polished @ladygaga tonight and as they closed the coffin she said I love my nails!”

Yesterday when I was backstage at ADAM I had the pleasure of meeting Deborah’s other half, Jude, who revealed that she was at the Grammys and working with someone huge.  Of course when I saw Deb tweet about my seeing Barbra Streisand that’s exactly where my mind went but I couldn’t be more off base.  Deb tended to the tips of the one and only Lady Gaga and lacquered her up with a bright yellow manicure.  But what is this mystery color?

Now, I don’t know about you but I’ve never seen a yellow in the Deborah Lippmann line before. Well, get ready people because we’re going to. I got the scoop straight from Deb that she’s launching Yellow Brick Road in April 2011 and it’s a JELLY!! Put me on the first tornado to Oz because I’m all in on Yellow Brick Road.  So while you can’t exactly get the look NOW, you can soon.

What do you think of Gaga’s nails?  Are on board with Yellow Brick Road?  What was your favorite performance from the Grammys?

I heard Gwenyth Paltrow sang with Cee-Lo, that had to be good.  I can’t wait to get home on Tuesday and watch it all, including the E! pre-show.  Seriously, who ever made the mistake of letting the Grammys occur during New York Fashion Week is NOT my friend.

The idea of a yellow jelly on my nails make me shudder and cringe with disgust. That will NOT look good on me.

  2. ApplePark says:

Oooh what a scoop! I wonder how this will be compared to Square Pants. Maybe more yellow vs pastel?

I’m a second class citizen and on PST, so I’m still watching the Grammys! lol So far I loved Janelle Monae. She’s adorable and I love her sound.

From Gaga’s speech, I’m waiting for a Gaga + Whitney duet.

  3. Kitty says:

I was totally racking my brain for a yellow and couldn’t think of one and you answered it! Can’t wait to see this when it gets out!

  4. Rikki says:

Isn’t Chanel coming out with a yellow this spring/summer? I bet you yellow is going to be the new “it” colour!

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Indeed they are. Though I don’t have any “official” information on it yet. I wonder how it will differ from the yellow they released in the Robertson Boulevard Collection.

  5. Jen says:

I can’t get Lippmann here in Blighty but I certainly would for a yellow jelly!!!!!

If only. I love yellow. Who cares that it looks cr@p? Not I.

  6. Rachel says:

I have purchased 3 different yellows the last year and I just can’t get into them! I guess it’s just not my color. I may try again this spring/summer with a yellow pedicure. The yellow on my fingernails just doesn’t fly.

  7. keri says:

Like yourself and Khabeer said.. I don’t have high hopes for it looking good on me. Doesn’t stop me from being excited to see it, though!

  8. Regina says:

I’m not sure I could pull it off

  9. Macca says:

    Oh my!
    I thought I was NOT at ALL into yellow…should I reconsider??? o_O

  10. Erica says:

I’m kind of digging the idea of a yellow jelly. This one looks like it’s going to be more vibrant than RBL’s Squarepants. And there could be some interesting layering options with it too.

Cee Lo’s performance with Gwenyth Paltrow was my favorite of the night!!

  11. Kristina says:

I’ve never worn yellow nail polish, but I think I’m going to branch out this summer…why not? It looks fun! I’ll be looking for this Lippmann, LOVE her polish line.

  12. Alllison says:

I love that you share the details right away!

  13. I have loved your blog for months as I consider my nail polish a very important accessory. Your posts rock!!!!

  14. Faye says:

I’m a honey blonde with super-fair, very cool-toned skin, and I can’t wear yellow clothes without looking washed out. I suspect yellow polish will be the same. Cool idea, though.

The Grammys were fun! My favorite was the Cee-Lo performance, but mostly because of the Muppets. I have a childish adoration of the Muppets that has not dimmed one iota with age :).

  15. Cincly says:

Yes!! More jellies :D I really hope there’s more Oz themed ones, i’m the biggest Wicked fan.

  16. Ofelia says:

yellow is so hard to rock :(

  17. Krishji says:

YES YELLOW JELLY. Yellow cremes never look quite right, always either too streaky or too chalky. Are there any other yellow jellies available right now? I can’t think of any.

  18. meg says:

I’ve always loved the look of yellow polishes but never really found any that didn’t go on super streaky and gross. The best one I’ve tried so far is one of the American Apparel ones, but it’s a bit orangey/cheesy. I wish there was a nice pale yellow out there that applies thick, or a yellow neon that actually goes on properly (I love the Essie neon yellow from a couple summers ago, but it’s just difficult to apply). Here’s hoping for some decent yellow formulas this spring/summer!

  19. Susan says:

I love yellow polish, but with my skin tone it always looks like I’m wearing mustard stains. :( I had a really bad, streaky yellow from OPI last year and was very disappointed. The fact that this is a jelly sounds promising, though I’d have to see it swatched first. I’ve been waiting impatiently for Chanel Mimosa this spring, since I think that if anyone can create a good, non-streaky yellow, it’ll be Chanel. I’m hoping it’ll have a little shimmer as well.

  20. Lillian says:

I must have missed the Gwyneth Paltrow/Cee-Lo part! Sad.

  21. Medali says:

I like how yellow looks. I used to have a nice bright yellow from Essie that I went crazy over and I will probably love this one too.

  22. Debbie says:

I KNEW this post was coming as soon as I saw her nails on stage! Love, love, love this site!! I’m so polish obsessed and always look forward to new ALU posts!
It will have to be spectacular for me to purchase it because I just can’t justify $18 for a bottle of polish ever since I paid $33 for a bottle of Illamasqua shipped from the UK (long horror story) but if I love it and can’t franken it myself I will have to break down and get it!

  23. saba says:

do you think a yellow like this would better suit someone with yellow or pink undertones? or like for warmer toned skin or cooler toned?

  24. meme says:

I am blond, golden Swedish skin tone. Yellow’s of all shades are great for clothing on me. However, yellow polish on my fingers really gives me a sick look. It has to have gold tone in it. Most all yellows I have seen/tried are too blue based on me to pull them off. I can do it on my toes, but don’t tend to leave it on very long before I am anxious to change. Last 2 years in my area, bright yellow was huge with the young pre teens, teens, very early 20′s set. Not so much after that age wise.

  25. Kimberly says:

I’m going to hold off and wait for Chanel “Mimosa” that’s coming out soon. I think I’d rather go for a more bright, light and shimmery yellow rather than a jelly-like yellow.

  26. Karyn says:

Can you list any other Lippmann polishes that are jellies? I’d like to add a few to my collection, but I cannot tell which ones are a jelly from the pictures or description. Thanks!

  27. KayDiKat says:

An amazing yellow similar to this has been done…not RBL Squarepants, but Yellow Fever! Well, Ji’s is a cream with subtle shimmer though and Lippmann really knows how to make those jellies. Once you have your hands on Yellow Brick Road and Mimosa, I’d love to see comparisons of those three :)

  28. Erica-Rose says:

I’m all for playing with interesting and sometimes off the wall colors. Way to go Gaga!

  29. Sophie says:

I’m a “silent reader” but I need to answer this question – as soon as the colour was out (which was last week over here) I bought it and I’m wearing it right now. It looks stunning! Oh how I love this jelly yellow!!
