CND at New York Fashion Week – Day 3 Giveaway

By on February 14, 2011
in CND, NY Fashion Week F/W 11
Day 3 of New York Fashion Week was my first official day of covering backstage. I started out bright and early at my can’t miss show, Diego Binetti. I’ve gushed over and over again about how Diego “gets” nails and how each season the combination of his inspiration joined with the creativity of Jan Arnold and the entire CND team continues to amaze me. This season is no different.

I walked backstage and was greeted with a, “Are you ready to die?” and that was all I needed to hear. I knew it was on. Game. Set. Match. CND!

CND worked with two designers on Day 3, Diego Binetti and Altuzarra. At Altuzarra, the nails were left clean with a coat of Super Matte Top Coat to give them texture, like a piece of fabric. Now I get that nail color is not always the right choice for a designer and that healthy, well manicured nails can be as much of an accessory as a blood red tip but it does nothing for me.  Truth of the matter is, Binetti got my focus and nothing else could compete.

At Binetti, CND’s Kristina Estabrooks created the ultimate in nail art – the ManiCUBE, a Cubism-inspired style with a Blackjack base on natural nails and “slim-lined” with tips coated in Bloodline over Raisin in the Sun. After the initial color was applied, manicures were embellished with 18 individual custom made adornments comprised of broken glass, fragmented mirrors, hardware nails, and dramatic noir feathers. The black swan to last season’s innocent and sweet Cocktail Ring Nail, this look was elegant, edgy and breathtaking.

I discussed the “slim-line” technique last year after complaining about my wide nail beds to CND’s Roxanne Valinoti.  In this interpretation of the technique, a slimmed down burgundy tip was placed over the black base color to elongate and thin the nails.  In addition to the slim-line nails each model was given a special nail art piece to wear but because each one was so unique, I’m going to cover them in a separate post.  For now, let’s just drool over the nail porn and get on with today’s giveaway.

Since there aren’t multiple looks for you to weigh in on, tell me which of the 5 nail art pieces is your favorite.  Also, I’d love to hear what you think of this type of “slim-line” nail.  Just leave a comment for your chance to win one bottle each of Blackjack, Raisin In The Sun and Bloodline.

Entries will be accepted until Midnight EST. Leave a comment and make sure you include your email address in the comment form, but not the actual body of the comment (for privacy reasons).

  1. germaine says:

the first is the prettiest… actually all of them look so good it’s hard to decide!

  2. Barbara says:

This is really hard to pick! My favourite’s gonna be the last one though. I love the glamouros flair it has and it reminds me of old black and white movies (don’t ask me why I don’t have a clue! :D)

  3. Kajsa says:

I love the swirly stuff on the 4th photo!

  4. Victoria Folino says:

I LOVE pic #2′s nail art…it’s got a lacy, burlesque look, which isn’t common usually. I love it because it’s a simple, classy look, and even with the nail art, it doesn’t take away from the timeless look.

  5. Andy says:

A really nice combination of colours – I can’t quite tell from the pics exactly what has been done – though clearly something special – really need a close up!

  6. Kelley says:

I think that the fourth is my favorite because it doesn’t overpower the nails like some of the others do.

The slim line nails? Looks interesting. Not something that I’d be likely to try, though.

  7. Sarah B says:

I think this look would be incredibly hard to replicate and maintain at home. My opinion is, although it’s beautiful, leave it on the runway.

  8. Liz says:

Number one is super-unique. But it’s very hard to sport this look in life. But I looove it!=)

  9. AnneMarie says:

    Very sleek and edgy look!

  10. Melissa says:

Effort-y but snazzy! Looks easier for klutzy me than the Ruffian, though.

  11. Irene says:

    That is inspiring :)

  12. Appy says:

See, I’m looking at it from some angles and it looks good. But then from others it looks a little messy… I think this is a perfect runway look but not a good real life one. However, I’d love to wear those nail art pieces out, they look so much more special than a plain cocktail ring!

  13. terry says:

    the first picture!x))

  14. lori says:

    I like picture #1

  15. Kate says:

The ring in the first pic is my definite favorite, but I think the model in the third pic really owned her adornment, esp. given how big it is! I do get the point of the slim-line, but I can’t handle it – my whole nail needs to be painted or I become obsessed with the unpainted part.

  16. mcm says:

    Love the last one, adorable!

  17. Medali says:

I like the 3rd picture best. To me it just seems like it blends in more naturally unlike the first picture. The 2nd and last picture are my other favorites :)

  18. Renee says:

I love the layered look with the black and raisin! I’m a nail newbie and for a pale, blonde almost middle age woman, I didn’t think I’d like or be able to pull off this type of dark look but I’m so set to try it!! Loving your great fashion week coverage!

  19. stephanie says:

my favorite is the 2nd to last one. it’s got some edgy element to it while maintaining a sophisticated look.

  20. Danny says:

I reall like the second and fourth look! and the nails look all great, except of the first one! :)

  21. Margot says:

I love the fourth piece – the spirally thing – because of it’s sophisticated simplicity!

  22. aaminahs mom says:

i like the ornament in the second model photo.

  23. Alli says:

I think the last look – the feather circular-looking ball of beadazzled and feather-dazzled fabulousness!!! Ok, maybe a little dramamtic of me, huh?, but I just think it is wicked cool! (oops, there is the New England coming out with the “wicked”) And I have toi say that I would be the happiest of gals to win these amazing colors…they so appeal to the fall-loving New England girl in me (Raisin in the Sun??? so gorgeous). My fingers are crossed for to take the win…it’s been a rough week and I sure could use a lift!!! LOVES!

  24. ruthie23 says:

    I would totally wear #4.

  25. Aisha says:

I think I like the second one the best. To me this technique is like art. However, that exact look would be hard to pull of in everyday life. I would like to see an “everyday” version of this.

  26. Donna Messer says:

It is difficult to pick a favorite! I really like them all! But I will say I do favor the last picture with the pearls and feathers!
All are gorgeous and I love these colors. It gives me some ideas to try, as I love black nail polish, but often find it to be a little too extreme for my style, but softening it with the red is a very good look!

  27. Amelia's Mom says:

LOVE the burgundy over black look! I am cursed w/ wide nail beds as well. Have tried the slim line but need a nice smooth finish to perfect the technique. Where do we score the wicked fashion rings???? I LOVE THEM!!!!

  28. Krista says:

I actually really like the large twirly metal one. It’s strange but interesting! The very last one with the feathers is nice too! :D (Not so sure I like the slimline thing though the colours used are nice!)

  29. ritterbraten says:

I like the last one, these feathers are extremely stylish.

  30. Jennifer says:

It’s really hard to choose just one!

  31. Lisa says:

I like #4, it seems the least intrusive.

  32. Patricia - Brazil says:

Loved the first and last looks. Colors are amazing! Feathers took it to another level.

  33. Eliane says:

I think my favorite is the second one! But most of all I LOVE the rings, they are so FAB!

  34. Lala says:

Kinda nice but my nailbeds aren’t wide to begin with :|

  35. Veronica says:

Its hard to pick a favourite because this isnt the sort of thing I would wear. But if Id had to choose I would say no 2 but thats mainly because I thought her nails had the best shape. I do think that the whole slim nails things is not for me. I dont have that perticular problem. I think that some people probably thinks that their nails look wider than they should but no one else sees it. But if theres a trick to make you feel more happy and confident about your nails Id say go for it!

  36. SalvagedExpression says:

Love the look but I’m waiting to see how hard it is to replicate. Nail art is nice but I have so many nice polishes I almost never put forth the effort.

  37. Louise S. says:

I love the one on the last picture :)

  38. Lara says:

I love the last one! It’s so 1920′s-modern. The slim-line nail is gorgeous on these models and great for the runway, but I could see very few people pulling it off as an everyday look.

  39. Sasha says:

I like the last look the best. I am not sure what I think about the slimline technique- I don’t think I would be able to replicate that on both hands…

  40. Ter G. says:

I like the last one. It looks like a piece of artistic jewelry. I’m not a fan of the slim line technique though.

  41. Lillie says:

    The last one.

  42. Nicoline says:

I think I like #4 the best. They’re very dramatic.

  43. Alllison says:

i like the second picture the best with the stripe at the base of the nail.

can’t decide between bloodnline and the raisin – i think it could look cool with CND glitter over it too.

  44. Laura says:

I live for nail polish! It is like religion to me. I love ALU! Thanks for what you do! You have my dream job!

  45. Brenda says:

i love them all but the 4th picture is terrific!

  46. jill says:

I instinctively did the slimline application because my nails are a bit wide also, especially the middle finger nail on my left hand from writing. As a jewelry designer, I really love all these looks! The nails totally compliment the abstract, almost dangerous looking rings, I like the folly of wearing them out on the finger itself. Might make losing the ring more likely!

And I LOVE the 3 in the giveaway :)

  47. I like the spiral one the best… it looks really unique! I use the slimline technique a lot, mainly because if not, I get polish everywhere! Thanks for a great giveaway :)

  48. Abby says:

The fourth look is certainly my favorite! and as for the slim line technique, i think it’s interesting but not something i can see translating really well into everyday life. i feel like too many people would be wondering/asking why there was another nail on top of the natural nail, or thinking that it’s just a really badly fitted set of falsies? haha

  49. Hannagrrl says:

I think the slimline technique is rather interesting… difficult to pull off in real life, but I’d bet you could do something similiar with polished nails and regular press-ons. “Idiot’s Guide to Ruffians”? :p

  50. Luka says:

    #5 for me, great color

  51. Elaine says:

The fourth look is great, simple and sophisticated. :) I like the slimline technique too, and use it quite a lot when my nails are short. :)

  52. resa says:

I want that last one in my life right now. Though the one in the second photo is also calling my name.

Also, the make up palette is just killer.

  53. Lisa says:

I think the 4th is my favorite. The slim-line look is cool for the runway, but I think it’s a bit too complicated for me!

  54. Jen Phifer says:

not a fan of the slimline technique, but i love the nail art, especially the last one.

  55. Jennifer J says:

The first one is my favorite. I love that its bold but not overpowering. And I love a little feather detail. As far as slimline, i think it looks amazing on them, but I am not sure I could replicate this! I would give it a shot of course! Thanks.

  56. Di says:

ooh the 2nd or last. they completely compliment the nail color!

  57. Laura Iriarte says:

Love the first look! I could see myself wearing it out to a party! I couldn’t see myself doing it…but I do think the slimline look probably worked well on the runway…

  58. Sarah V says:

Ooo..these are fun. I LOVE THE COLORS on their nails…vamp vamp vampy! I love the pieces in 1, 2, & 5…but I think I’ll go with the 2nd one as my favorite! I’m so jealous you’re there.

  59. Tori says:

It’s gotta be the last one! I love the feathers– so counter-intuitive, surprising, vintage and modern, delightful!

  60. Susana says:

I like it for the runway, although it doesn’t seem very practical… the models look fantastic!!

  61. Bente says:

The spiralthing on the 4th photo, it

  62. Lise says:

    I think I like the 1st one: nice for a runway !

  63. Camille says:

I think the technique is interesting, but I’m not sure if I want to try it. As for the nail art, I’m a fan of the second to last one.

  64. Molly says:

I like the broken glass piece and the last piece with the black feathers. The others look a bit too random for my taste.

Normally I don’t care for long nails but this slim line look is nice. I like how the red is sort of physically separated from the black moon & for those of use that can’t grow our nails long or get a dent or curve in our nail when they do grow out, this slim line look fixes that.
I agree with the other post that thinking nailbeds are too wide could be something we are self conscious about but its something we see & others don’t notice…

I think my nailbeds are too flat but I’ve been told I have nice nails. Then my fiance deflated that by telling me my hands look old, Lol. Whatever…guys…lol.
    :)

  65. Lou says:

    the second one!

  66. Samantha says:

I really need to start picking up more CND!!

  67. Sara W. says:

I love the 4th swirly one. I’m not a big fan of the slimline look. Something about it seems off to me.

  68. Shana says:

Love the last look — very film noir!

I dig the slim line technique, but my life is way too conservative for it as an everyday look. A special occasion, on the other hand …

  69. Elizabeth says:

I dig the simplicity of the spiral in the 4th picture. Especially when combined with all the outfit has going on. The charm dangling off the end is the perfect touch.

I like this nail look, except in some cases, it looks like they painted the real nail of the model then glued a fake one on top. The first picture middle finger looks like the nail is floating above the real nail.

  70. Rachel says:

Number 4. The spiral cage looks cool.

  71. Gina says:

I will never get tired of dark vampy colors. Something about them is just so chic!

  72. Nikki says:

I think I’d like the first one best if it didn’t have the feather, so I’m going to say the fourth one. And I don’t care for the slim nails too much.

  73. ella says:

The last one is definitely my favorite..

  74. Beth says:

I like the fourth pic – very clean and modern!

  75. Barb Dyer says:

I really like the second one- it reminds me of understated glitz and glam. I also really like gold & black together.

I an not sure about the slimming nail- I have a hard time with the pictures- would have to see it close up to decide.

  76. Eugenia says:

Love, love love the first photo!!! Looks like a butterfly landed on her finger…..so cool! I also think the slim line technique must be a total Godsend, if you happen to have wide nail beds, but not necessarily my cup of tea.

  77. Lauren says:

I pick the first, although this isn’t my cup of tea.

  78. Cheri says:

I like #2 with the feathers.

  79. Gail S says:

Oh I definitely like the metal spiral of #4! Don’t know about the slimline look, it always looks like someone was in too much of a hurry.

  80. Cheryl says:

I like the swirls of wire in picture number 4 the best. The nails look beautiful, but I don’t know how wearable they are IRL. I would suspect they would catch on things pretty easily.

  81. tahillia says:

I like the last one. It’s very “film noir” to me and I love that. I think the slimline nails are really cool and I would love for it to catch on because I have fat fingers and wide nail beds and I love how it elongates the finger and the nail.

  82. Shayla says:

I don’t really like this look at all, but I really love the hand ornaments. If those looks were turned into rings, I would be the first in line to get them.

  83. Wini says:

Hmm, not really my style, but out of all of them 2 and 5 are definitely my favorites. The dark nail color really pulls together the look, but I’m not digging the slim-line nail with that length. Its a little too vampy for me.

  84. weny says:

I love the 2nd look. The ring looks so chic.

  85. Maria says:

I LOVE the 2nd look, with the coppery wire and feathers. Beautiful! The slim line nails look great for the runway, the colors look spectacular.

  86. Wini says:

hmm, out of all of them, 2 and 5 are definitely my favorites and the dark color really brings together the look, but I’m not terribly excited about the slim-line with that long length for every day. It’s a little too vampy for me, but it still looks fabulous on the runway!

  87. I love the last photo as well. I love the many small feathers and the circle shapes.
I LOVE the slim-line nail look. Fabulous idea to elongate and slim the appearance of the nail bed. I am pretty traditional but I could see this being used in “real life.” It is classy and I love that it is another take on a two tone look, I love it.

  88. pchelka217 says:

    I liked the first one;)

  89. Nina says:

I love the last piece with the feathers. This technique is a great trick to give the illusion of a slimmer nail bed but it’s not for me as it is too much work. But hey, for really special occasions I think I might have this done.

  90. I think I like the first one the best – but they’re all pretty, especially the third one, too…

  91. Lindsey says:

The third look is right up my alley.

  92. Jay says:

Loving the fourth one and the fifth is a close second!

  93. Sophie says:

Yay! a giveaway for Valentine’s Day! Those nails looks are all gorgeous!!

  94. Erin says:

I like the first one the best I think!
This isn’t my favorite fashion week look so far though. I’m still feeling the mint green satin and the tuxedo much more!

  95. Tiffanie says:

all of them are stunning. but i love the second look due to the mixed metals and feathers. i’d love to rock it out one night.

  96. Elizabeth Hardwick says:

I love the third the best! Those colors are so rich and glamorous. I do like the slimline but it’s not something I am likely to try.

  97. Anna says:

I would never be able to pull off this much look in my everyday life – but I love the colors. The first look with the broken mirrors is feminine and aggressive at the same time. Cool!

  98. elizabeth says:

I like the last one, love the feathers! Not so much for real life tho.

  99. Caroline says:

I’m torn between several of them, but I think the 4th one is my favourite. I like how it’s not in your face shiny as the others, but still makes quite the statement.

  100. Kristen says:

The 5th picture is my favorite. It part looks like a pincushion and I love the feathers sticking out. Very Black Swan.

  101. Tiffany C. says:

I love the 1st and the last one.

  102. lam says:

    The first one!

  103. Samantha says:

I like the first the best.
In theory, I would think the slimline to look weird, but I actually really do like it here. I think if they used different colors I wouldn’t like it as much.

  104. Christina says:

I love the depth of this look!

  105. D says:

Definitely #4 – it looks perfect with the nails. Beautiful!

  106. Erica says:

I like #2 the best, with the warmer bronze color. I don’t think I’d rock the slimline look. I have a feeling up close, in real life, it would just look like you got your false nails wrong.

  107. Amy says:

I like the bent wire and feather look in the second pic. I think the slimline technique is super chic and creative – but I don’t see myself wearing that for my everyday manicure.

  108. Olga says:

I like the 1st look out of the four, but now sure if the slimline look if for me.

  109. Maqda says:

    Last one is totally amazing:)

  110. Morgan says:

I love the 4th one. So funky yet somehow refined

  111. MissMoses says:

I like the 2nd look the best. The jewellery is beautiful too.

  112. ena says:

My favourite is the second one.

  113. Julie says:

I think I like the last one. Dunno how that look would go on my fingers but the nails on the first one particularly look very futuristic to me.

  114. Lisa says:

Wow…just wow! I don’t think I could wear one of those for more than a minute without ruining it! I’d love to try though…the first one is gorgeous!

  115. Vettelicious says:

I love the first picture as a piece of art/fashion, but I’d go for look #3 in real life :)

  116. Sylkii says:

I like the first pic the best. I really think the slim nail technique is cool. I have slim nails to begin with but anyone is wider nail beds should find it interesting.

  117. Andrea says:

I love the first one – it’s a little out there, but could actually be worn in public like normal people, if they were so inclined!

  118. Silva says:

I like the second one best, but I’m not sure what to think of this….it looks a bit weird.

  119. Diana says:

My favorite is the fourth picture.
I’m not really a fan of the slim-line technique.

  120. Lynne says:

I really love the second piece. I’m so into copper and black right now, and it just looks so effortless. Plus a little less dangerous for my clumsy hands!

  121. Katie says:

I LOVE the fourth one! I’m not exactly sure why, but I love love love that caged look. Awesome.

  122. Lulle says:

The first one is very unique! I had never seen a slim-line nail like that! I have wide nailbeds too, but I’m not sure I would go for this technique…

  123. Kristen says:

I like the third look best. It seems like the easiest to carry over into real life.

  124. Claire says:

I like the first look a lot. It’s just super edgy.

  125. Heather says:

I’m not sure how much I like the look, but I LOVE the colors!

  126. Cheryl says:

I love the swirly one! That’s a very pretty ring to wear. I’ve used the slim line technique before, sometimes not on purpose, I’m not that great with painting my nails! I think it definitely makes nails look nicer and slimmer, but I’m a little too OCD to leave gaps.

  127. Liliz says:

I like the last one with the feathers! It gives me the “glam masquerade” vibe XD
Regarding the slim nails…while it looks interesting, I can’t really think of a good occasion to work it. And I think since the tips need to be quite long to pull off the look, it’d interfere with my daily routine too much. (I’m a biochemistry student so having nails like that would be a real pain in the lab.)

  128. Harri says:

    LOVE that burgundy!!

  129. Danielle says:

I love the feathers! Broken glass and mirrors on my fingers…too hazardous!

I agree with @lala, I don’t think my nail beds are big enough to add a slim line on top

  130. Renee H says:

I love the 1st pic – very cool!!

As for the slimline nail, I think it looks cool, but I could never pull it off as the bump between the natural nail and the fake would drive me crazy – as I’ll pick at anything that’s not smooth. It’s a good concept though.

  131. KayDiKat says:

The last one takes my vote! Goegeous! Those dark CND’s are also to-die-for :)

  132. Smoochiefrog says:

It’s easiest to see the color difference in the first one, so I’ll pick that one.

  133. vvn says:

My favourite is the last one, looks like a cute hat for your hand. However, definitely not practical!

I am not a fan of the slimline technique, it looks too much like dragon claws to me. Also, from some angles the tips are very obvious.

  134. Zoey says:

I think the first is my favorite.

  135. Jessica says:

I love the last one. It’s gorgeous and could probably be wearable in the real world.

  136. ileana says:

they are all beautiful but if i had to chose one, i would go with the third one because it seems to be the edgiest. although i usually keep my nails clean and dont generally apply any types of chemicals such as acrylics or gels, i would probably experiment with the slim nail technique because i like the contrast in color and when it comes to my nails i will always try something new at least once.

  137. Caity says:

I love the first one, it is so pretty and something I would actually wear!

  138. MacKenzie says:

I like the fourth one pictured!

  139. Marjolein says:

I really like the last one!
I also think that, as more people on here say, that slim-line nails are very pretty on the runway. I don’t know how it will look in real-life so to speak, in every day life, up close.

  140. heather chivington says:

The second one is Amazing! Love the touch of feathers.

  141. Cat says:

The last look is my favorite. I think all of them are a little overpoweroverpowering, and the slim nail line looks interesting but not my thing at all.

  142. Paz says:

Love the 1st one and then my second pick would be the last shot.

I love how the slim line looks from afar. I imagine if I was going to replicate it at home it would end up looking like a moon manicure with the side running up to the nail. It would be interesting to try (specifically with some obvious colour contrasts) although I have fairly narrow nail beds as is.

  143. Devon says:

I love the second one, the actual nail look though I’m not too crazy about.

  144. defenitely the first one! xx

  145. Cat says:

If I did tips, this would definitely go on the list. It looks so cool!

  146. Sonja says:

The slim-line nails look awesome, but I doubt it’s something I’ll be trying out anytime soon. Anything involving acrylics just looks like too much work to me.

I think the spiral art piece is my favorite.

  147. Tidi-i says:

The first one is my favourite. It’s so.. hypnotic!

  148. girlygirl says:

I love #4, the wire wrap piece!

  149. Angy says:

    The first one is wicked…

  150. Janet says:

I really like the 4th look — and love that the colors are so bold (my kind of colors). I also like that the models are sporting longer fingernails.

  151. Dot says:

As far as the art pieces, I really like the fourth one, the spiraly looking thing. Very cool. Not really sure how I feel about the slimline yet. Can’t wait to see more close up pics of that.

  152. Anna says:

I really love how they applied the Slim-Line technique. I think one dark over another creates a unique look. It’s def something I will try.

As for nail-art, my favorite is #4. I think that one, with the spiral shape, draws attention without distracting.

  153. Hollie says:

I like the second nail art piece because of the black feathers. The last one has feathers too, but the feathers in the second piece look more controlled.

  154. Kelly says:

Loving all the dark colors and fun add ons to the hands, really draws attention to the nails. I think I like Bloodline the best, everyone needs a nice dark red shade in their collection.

  155. Julie says:

I love the fist one. It makes me do a double take and I love that!

  156. Jennifer says:

I love the piece with the silver coils!

  157. kellyo says:

So torn between 1, 4 and 5. What a great look!

  158. indoorkitty says:

I love love LOVE the fifth look. It reminds me of birds of paradise from Papua New Ginea. Have you seen their mating dance on youtube? If you haven’t, you need to check it out! It’s hilarious!

I do like the slimline technique, I’d be curious to try it out on different colour combos too. Like a grayed out blue over a navy? Mmmmmm.

    Enjoy your trip!

  159. Samantha says:

Gotta say, I really love the first one. I love the crystal butterfly-ish thing.
As for the technique…hmm. I like how it was done for the models but for normal wear it really bugs me when I miss the sides of my nails. I have pretty decent nail beds though so maybe it’s just me.

  160. Abby says:

I like the 5th piece! The slimmed down tip looks like it could break off.. taking the nail with it D:

  161. rachel says:

I’ve started using the slimline technique also… helps with a couple of janky nails that the nail wall is messed up on.

  162. Lauren says:

I love the fourth picture. I would rock that look!

  163. ash says:

The”slimline” technique looks amazing, but I don’t know how practical it is for everyday. I feel like I’d just want to pick off the tips. But maybe it could be intrupreted on a natural nail.

I actually don’t like those “nail art”/ring things, they look really 80s craft store to me.

  164. Lulu says:

I’m still not sure how I feel about this look overall. I love the color of the polish, but the nail construction looks difficult to wear for everyday. My favorite nail art is by far the 4th one!

  165. Ursula says:

Beautiful! I like the first nail art piece, with its strong lines and trailing peacock feather pieces. I think a subtle slim line nail is a good idea.

  166. ach167 says:

LOVE! I think the slimline idea is great for the runway! So unique, but not so redic you couldn’t imagine in real life. I would mimic it at home with a half moon manicure in the same colors or maybe some sort of nail art “border” in blackjack. As for the adornments I love the first because I can see that translate into real life as replacement of a cocktail ring. I also love the over the top feathers of the last. I just love this whole look!

  167. Megan says:

I love this! Actually when I first read your post about the slimline technique several months ago, I was thinking, Oh! Someone Finally Understands! My mom taught me that technique for painting my nails when I was a little girl. It works particularly well for toenails – makes your feet/piggly-wigglies look slim – not pudgy at all! Thanks for doing this giveaway.

  168. April Brooks says:

The spiral in picture 4 for sure!
I like the idea of slimline as I too have wide nails.

  169. Sarah Diamond says:

Do I have to pick one?! They are all so freakin’ cool! Okay fine, the third one is amazing!

  170. nikki says:

in general feathers freak me out, but i do like the first piece best. also, the slimline approach always looks a little… well… the effect only works for me from far away; up close, you can still see the nail bed, and people will wonder why you didn’t paint your whole nail. so, i really like what they did hear using illusion but also painting the whole nail.

  171. Brooke says:

    loving the third one down!

  172. Jessie says:

I love the second look with the copper and the black feathers. It is simply beautiful and matches the nail colors perfectly. I also like the slim line technique, however I think this version may be too dramatic for daily wear…more of an evening out look!

  173. Michelle says:

For me, it’s a tie between 2 and 4. The second one is more decadent but the design of the fourth one speaks to me.

  174. ania says:

The last piece looked posh! :) not sure what I think of the slim-line nailaddon, hmm..

  175. Sarah says:

Wow, those nails are wicked! I can’rt decide if I like the technique or not, though.

I like the glass butterfly–#1. I think it is an intriguing combination of something traditionally feminine and delicate made from a medium that is harsh and edgy.

  176. Kitty says:

I love the last one. I think it’s cause of the feathers!

  177. Spenser says:

LOVE the first! It’s so sleek and classy, but edgy at the same time.

  178. brookelyn says:

The first is my fave! Gorgeous!

  179. Mandy says:

I love the first look. Very cool!

  180. Nokomi says:

I like the first and last pictures.

  181. jennifer says:

I’m loving all of them, but especially the first and the fourth. The first one reminds me of a very intricate origami flower, and the fourth is so intriguing – is it a bracelet? A ring? “hand ornament?” love it!!!

  182. Leslie says:

    I pick the 4th one.

  183. Maggie says:

Not loving the slimline overall, but those colors are fab!

  184. Valerie says:

The second piece with the feathers and copper wire. Baroque enough to command attention, but not as intrusive as the beautiful 4th piece that would no doubt get in the way of closing clutches, grabbing handles and other every day tasks and be ruined in a minute.

  185. Silja says:

I love the simplicity of the first nail art piece. Looks like a black rose to me. Dark and romantic at the same time.

The slim-line nails look a little silly. Of course they look fabulous on a freaking super model, but that’s really not a look that I could pull off… :D

  186. NailPolishFan says:

I like the 4th photo the best.

  187. Rachelle says:

I like the second last look. It seems simple and yet so positively glamorous.
    LUVIT.

  188. Cat says:

I like the last one best. I really like the slim line look for longer nails, but I rarely have the patience to grow mine out. I much prefer short nails and think they always look chic.

  189. Mara says:

Wow, it’s super hard to decide but I think I like the Silver Spiral the most.

  190. Biba says:

    I love the last picture!

  191. Elizabeth says:

I like the last one :-)

  192. Melissa says:

I like the 4th one the best. I make jewelry and love working with wire-wrapping, so that one appealed to me the most.
I don’t like the slim line look in this case.

  193. Gina D says:

i like one and four. like the nails

  194. Hanna M says:

#2 would probably get my vote. That said, I’m not really bonding with these long talon looks, wish there was more to inspire girls like me who like a short nail…

  195. Jennifer says:

i love the fourth one, so fancy. :)

  196. Meg says:

    Love the last piece!

  197. Ace says:

I like the last nail art the best!! Kind of has a flapper-y vibe to it, which is always a plus.

The slim line is something that’s probably really hard to replicate at home, so I’d probably leave it where it belongs – on the runway!

  198. Rachel says:

I like the first nail art look, but the slimline look would be very hard to wear in real life.

  199. Kylie Boazman says:

the slim-line nails are so pretty

  200. Cincly says:

I love the last nail piece! I like this slimline look, it’s very dramatic, but not something i’d try on myself.

  201. ilexica says:

That’s really cool. I have quite slim nails and always envy those with wide nail beds, but this has made me feel quite pleased with what nature gave me! Off to go and paint my nails burgundy now, just the inspiration I needed.

And I love the penultimate wrappy handpiece :)

  202. Ofelia says:

    love the slimline!

  203. Mary Ann says:

I like the third look, I love the colors! I always prefer a darker nail color, it’s so sophisticated.

  204. Krishji says:

Picture #4′s spiral is so eye-catching, and I could imagine it feels dynamic and movable, as opposed to the blockier creations, like the one featured in #3. I LOVE the slimline look – I wonder if I could finagle it myself!

  205. Allison says:

The swirly metal one is my favorite. I like how it looks like it could be a normal pierce of jewelry.

  206. Nika says:

Pic # 4 – the most interesting for me!

  207. Freddy says:

    I like the fourth one!

  208. Annabel says:

I like the first one the best, the contrast of the harsh jagged mirror with the delicate feather is really nice. Im lucky enough to have quite slim nails, but I think it is good technique for those who want slimmer looking nails!

  209. Diana says:

I love the fourth picture. About that slim line I don’t know it’s nothing for me I guess I’m one of those people who polishes the entire nail.

  210. rosarita says:

I like the one in the 4th photo best; space age elegance!

  211. Kathy says:

That last one is so cool and edgy, although not something I think I could ever pull off!

  212. Jordan says:

I love the first ring, because it’s really wearable, it’s something you could pull off, off the runway. The idea of the slim-line nail is really cool, but for the wished effect I would probably wear it in the same color. Although this looks really special as well! So for something creative I’d wear it in 2 different colors. Maybe a second tip on the first tip would look even cooler! But I do think it’s a little too much work for me.

  213. Mrs_Miagi says:

Hmmm, So that’s the ” slim line” Interesting concept. Subtle yet noticable difference in nail bed width. I wonder how the tips were applied over the base polish . . .

  214. Jennifer says:

I love the 4th style, with the metal coil. It looks severe but also beautiful at the same time. Hope you’re having a fantastic time in NYC!! Oh, and thanks for getting me hooked on 8ty8 . . . . just in time for Valentine’s Day presents!

  215. Suiling says:

I think I like the last one the best…it’s got a cool vibe to it and I like the feathers and whatnot..the slim lined technique seems interesting… I’ve never heard of it before but I think I may try it next time…

  216. Tatyana says:

The second one is gorg, i really love the elegant, slimming effect of the nail designs.

  217. Kristina says:

I don’t think I could pick which nail art piece would be my favorite, but I love this version of the slim line nail though I don’t think I could do it to myself. Hmmm maybe I could train my boyfriend.

  218. Savannah says:

My favorite is number 4! The swirls look awesome.

  219. Olivia says:

Hard to choose but I love the last one!

  220. Xiomara says:

My favorite look is the 2nd one. I love tribal inspired jewelry! It’s intricate without taking over the nails. I’m not too sure about the slim line nail technique, I already have slim nails and usually try to look for ways to make them appear wider =/ but the results shown above do look gorgeous. I can’t wait to see a tutorial!

  221. Zara says:

I think the third is my favorite…I love them all, though!

  222. Julianne Q says:

The swirly thing on the fourth is super cool. The slimline technique looks a bit complicated to even bother with.

  223. Corey says:

#4. Understated. I’m not so sure I like the slim line nail when thinking about my own. These gals pull it off though!

  224. autoxchica says:

A very cool look…but not sure how it would look off the runway..

  225. Amy says:

The first picture is my favorite!

  226. Vivian says:

ahhh, i’m between the first and last one. i think i like the first one a bit more. they both look so elegant! the models’ slim line nails look awesome, but i doubt i could do it on myself

  227. Judith says:

I like the 4th one for it’s simplicity. As of now I’m not sure how I feel about the slim nail. It looks nice with the colors, but definitely looks difficult to do.

  228. Marianne says:

It’s funny, I had no idea people wanted slimmer nails! I have small nail beds and I always wish for wider ones. With that, I’m not totally sure or in love with the “slim line” effect, just because I live it and wish I didn’t have to. It’s that whole “want what you don’t have” I suppose.

As for the nail art, #4 is my favorite, though they are all gorgeous and delicious (#3 coming in a close second)! They have a noir/art nouveau look and it’s two of my favorite things.

Might I add, these colors are also amazing. I usually tend to do dark over light with my skin tone. I always prefer the vampy goth shades so these are by far my favorite, thus far. A girl could never have too many shades of blacks, in my opinion.

  229. Ayda says:

My favorite piece is the second one, but the fourth one is really interesting. I like the idea of the slim-line nail, but I think it would bug me not to have my nails painted close enough to the edge.

  230. Jmy says:

Love the forth picture. I can’t decide if this would be an easy nail ‘process’ to do or not. hmmm

  231. GerryART says:

The best was saved for last. IMHO

I adore the understated beauty of the over-all look.

I am rabid to read your posts!

    Hugs

  232. Elisabeth says:

I like the fourth one the best :) Dainty and pretty!

  233. Jaime says:

For sure the first one! The 3/4 side view really shows the shape of the nail. I always love looking at something and thinking, “how the heck did they do that?” and I definitely got that feeling looking at that first photo. That said, they are all stunning.

  234. Brianna says:

I love the last look the most. I love all of the feathers sticking out. It’s so eye-catching! All of the nails look so great, but I don’t think I could pull that off in real life!

  235. The first look is my favorite!

  236. Sandy says:

I really like the ring in the 4th pic! The others are a little too chunky for my taste.

  237. Lauren says:

    Raisin in the Sun

  238. Quaneshia says:

Picture 4 is my top pick!!! Love the feather detail…

  239. Faith Dunning says:

Hmmm… I’m not really digging the slimline thing??? I get it in theory, but I don’t ‘get it’!
I definitely like the look in pic 4 the best!

  240. Margaret says:

Hard to say which one is my favorite. I’ve never tried the slimline method, but have always wanted to.

  241. miriam says:

The second nail art piece is my favourite! It looks sophisticated and chique…The slimline nails look reat for on the runway but too edgy (atleast for me) to try out in everyday life…
    Thanks for the giveaway :)

  242. paige51066 says:

Beautiful colors! I think Raisin in the Sun is probably my favorite.

  243. Kristen says:

I have to go with the last one…but they’re all beautiful!

  244. Sarah says:

I love this color trio, and I think the creativity behind the nail art is amazing!

  245. Ann says:

    Love the embellishment!

  246. Uy says:

The last one is the best! It is gorgeous but I don’t think that I would be able to pull this off for everyday wear.

  247. Mahnaz says:

    # 2 has to be my favourite nail art piece. I love that it actually complements the nail colour as opposed to taking attention away from it. My first thought when I saw the slim line bottles is “less product” but LOVING the colours!!!

  248. LauraJ says:

I like the fourth one, the swirley silver one that goes around the model’s finger & down the back of her hand

  249. Marianne says:

looks gorgeous and more like an avant garde look to me, not an everyday look. I love them all, especially the last look.

  250. honey_lili says:

love the 2nd look ! I heart vampy colors !

  251. Ariela says:

The last one is great – very ’20s, updated for modern fashion.

  252. keri says:

The fourth look is definitely my favourite!

  253. Jane says:

I love the slim-line technique done with a vampy color over black! Definitely something that I want to try at home. My favorite piece is the second one with the black feathers because it reminds me of the movie that I’m currently obsessed with, Black Swan!

  254. Valerie says:

for me it’s a tie between the first and the last ones. i love the broken mirror pieces in the first one but i love the 3 dimensional aspect the feathers add to the last one!

  255. Amanda says:

I like the 5th design! And I think I would try the slimline design, it looks pretty cute! :D

  256. LL says:

    I like the last look!

  257. nadia says:

I vote for #2 – I like the feathers and even if it’s over the top it’s a runway piece so that doesn’t really matter.

Don’t know about the slimline technique – it looks cool in photos, but I have a feeling that if my nails looked like they were layered it would drive me crazy..

  258. nekosan says:

I like the fourth one, with the big spirally thing. Who doesn’t love spirals?

  259. Katja says:

I like the last one best.
I’m not sure about this version of slimlining – it looks odd to me in the first picture, but on others it looks ok, so.

  260. Thifa says:

The last one looks best! I love it and would sure wear it!

  261. Jasmine says:

I like the third one! I like all the different stones they added.

  262. I really like the last piece with feathers, it’s quite elegant.

And I don’t realy like the slimline mani as I personally have quite slim nails. But I understand that for somebody with wide nail beds it might be good.

  263. Vanessa says:

I like the 4th one! Kinda looks like a swirly quill is attached to her finger (:

  264. Medusa says:

I like the 2nd look the best. Not too keen on the slim-line nail look, to be truthful.

  265. Laura McCarthy says:

i love the first one. it really features the nails and they are amazing.

  266. Lisa says:

I like the 2nd photo. The nails look good on the model, and her makeup is done so nicely.

  267. Janet says:

I like the first one. It reminds me of a rose, and the juxtaposition of the shattered glass and the gentle rose shape just really draws me in. Other than that, the nails themselves look lovely!

  268. Altea says:

I’ll have to say the last one

    But

  269. Britt says:

I think the last one would have to be my favourite…looks like a big diamond and feathers!!

  270. Adri says:

#1 is my favorite. It just looks so elegant to me.

  271. Theo says:

I love the edgy look of today’s nails! The swirls are pretty awesome. Dark and fierce!

  272. Melanie says:

I really love pictures four and five. They both look very elegant and glamorous. I love the nails!!

  273. Ulmiel says:

I love the fourth one, with tiny feathers and so on. Slimline technique reads interesting, but I don’t think I’d have the time or the need to do that. Although it looks awesome. Kinda like Illamasquas Quills – looks awesome, but you won’t wear it everyday, you know what I mean?

  274. Robin says:

i LOVE number one becuase it reminds me of J.Lo’s mirror dress at the Grammy’s last night, i like the slim lining but i don’t think i could do it on my own nails

  275. Lizzy says:

The 4th one’s my favorite. And I’m digging the slim-line nail, although maybe just for the runway. I know I couldn’t pull it off.

  276. Beth says:

I really love the seond piece best. I love the look of the nail technique but I don’t believe I could pull it off.

  277. Faith says:

I like #4, but can’t begin to think how you’d wear it!

  278. Heidi says:

I love feathers, so the last look is for me! But as for the slim-line technique, I’m not a fan.

  279. peripatetic33 says:

i like the first one the best and think some of the others are just too over the top

  280. Leigh says:

I like the second piece the best – with the feathers coming off to one side. And I do like the slim line nail look. I could see how that would work for special occasions.

  281. Julie says:

i love the 4th piece (the spiral down the hand) and slimline is not for me

  282. Caroline says:

I really like the second to last picture, with the spiral embellishment. It’s so futuristic! I’m super loving the slimline technique paired with the painted natural nail. It’s something that could definitely be pulled off for an everyday look.

  283. Andrasescu-Scrieciu Adriana Camelia says:

I really like the first one , but just for seeing, not on me…

  284. Briana says:

Oh hard choice, they all look great. I think the 2nd is my fav purely because I feel its something Id be able to wear day to day without looking too OTT

  285. breeoxd says:

i like the last one the best- toooo awesome with the mod feel! I dont really dig the slim nail a little too fake looking for my tastes- I cant imagine walking around with them and people thinking i just fit my fake nails wrong. Nice concept tho.

  286. Mary says:

Pic #4 is my favorite. For some odd reason it reminds me of the movie Beetlejuice. LOL

  287. Sarah says:

I like number 4! it catches your eye. As for the slim line nails I have really wide nails and so I think I have gotten use to seeing polish displayed that way. When I see polish on skinny nails now I never think it looks as good!

  288. Holly says:

I like the third one the best! It’s a lot and it’s fun. I am going to try the slim line nail. Hopefully I’ll win this, but if not I’ll try it with DL Dark Side of the Moon over a black. I already have fairly slim nails so I think this would look awesome.

  289. Antonela says:

i love the second to last wire, and the slim line is interesting…i dont know if i’d ever go for it.

  290. Marianne says:

I will say I really like photo number 2, because the nails caught my attention the most!

  291. Lorinda says:

I like the ornament on the last look the best. I love the color combination of Blackjack, Raisin in the Sun and Bloodline, but I don’t think I can get on the boat with the ‘slim line’ look. It’s great for the runway, though!

  292. TygerKitty says:

    How to pick!?!?!?!

I think I’m going to have to go with the 4th one… but they are all SO gorgeous!

As for slimline technique – I think it works nicely to make my nail shapes look more similar; my pinky and ring finger nails are super skinny and the rest are wide. It definitely helps balance my hand!

  293. Debbie says:

    the nails look lovely

  294. KLeilani says:

I like the art in the 4th look. And I LOVE the slimline look. The colors are fabulous. It will be great to experiment something similar to create a daily wear version on a natural nail with no tip.

  295. the last one is definitely my fave! it’s fluffy and girly yet dramatic and bold. :D

  296. Klahriza says:

I like the second look the best, but the fourth look is a close second. I haven’t tried the slim nail technique myself since i have pretty narrow nails. But looking at pictures of it done, it does a good job at making the illusion of longer nails

  297. amber says:

my favorite is #2. i love the copper.

  298. Grace says:

I like the one with the wire wrapped around something and the feathers. It’s a little dark for me, but I’m sure it looked great with the collection! Are you allowed to take pics of the actual clothes?? Do you have any more pics from spring fashion week?

  299. Patty says:

The first one is my favorite for sure.

  300. Anutka says:

The last one with the feathers is my fav.
Not a fan of the slimline trick…

  301. Adaira says:

I am absolutely in love with the third, swirly, one. It’s so whimsical and light compared to the others that it just POPS out at you among them all. I also really adore how it takes up the whole hand without looking like it weighs it down.

  302. Priscilla says:

i like the last one the best.

  303. Vivi says:

The first one is the prettiest! I love the nail art, i love the rings to accessorize! so pretty I like the idea of longating the nails, but my nails are naturally long and thin so I wouldn’t use it; my nails would look Cruella de Villa ish

  304. Sonya says:

I love them all! If I had to choose a favorite, it would be the last one with the first as a close second.

  305. stript says:

    second to last.

  306. Tara says:

I like number 5 the best, but number 1 is close too.

  307. Emily says:

The first piece. I’d like to stick something like that on a headband and wear it like that too. As for the slimline, I’d like to try it but I don’t think I have the skill to make it took good or the extra cash to get a manicure but it sure is a hot look.

  308. Lissette says:

I really like the first one it’s very pretty.

  309. Jessica says:

I like all of these, but since I’m partial to feathers, the 2nd and 5th are my faves…but I’d go with the 5th. They’d probably drive me nuts to wear, but I’d try to pull it off…I’d save it for when I teach Emily Dickinson: “Hope is the thing with Feathers” :)

  310. Ashley says:

    #5 is my favorite!

  311. Meeka says:

The 4th one is the one I like best, although it was hard to pick! I think the nails in the show look really elegant. I’m not sure if I’d do it at home but I might one day when I’m feeling steady handed lol!

  312. Ramya says:

I love love love picture 5!!! Its so ecclectic!! And i love the feathers

  313. Erica says:

I loved the last look with the feathers.

  314. T says:

I really like the first one, it’s very pretty. As far as the slim line goes, not really my style. I’m a solid color kind of girl. Works for the runway though!

  315. Jane says:

They’re all beautiful! My favorite is the fourth one that’s made out of a coil of some kind of wire. They all look so interesting and unusual.

  316. Wenqi says:

love the last one with the pearls and feathers! totally edgy and classic at the same time!

  317. Qian says:

I like the first one! It’s not overly complicated and really pretty.

  318. Mary Jane says:

Like the last two rings, one for simplicity the other for intricacy & Art Deco-ish vibe.

  319. Stephanie says:

    #2 for sure :)

  320. Tami says:

My fave is the spiral (#4)

  321. Patty says:

I really like the last one! Looks great.

  322. vanessa says:

I like #4 the best. I think the slimline nail looks good but I keep my own nails very short and would be unlikely to try it. Bloodline is a gorgeous color!

  323. Melody says:

I like the fourth one best. The subtlety and simplicity compared to the others really grabs me.

As for the slimline nail art…I’m mixed on it. I think it’s quite flattering, but just not for me. My nailbeds are already well-proportioned and lengthy – I feel like they would look awkward with that style.

  324. Clare says:

I like the one with the silver spring and the pared down feather… no good for everyday wear, but it looks so elegant on the model! I think the slimline nail thing is a really interesting, attractive look. Would love to see it with some higher contrast polishes.

  325. Matthew says:

    LOOK 3!

  326. macmueslg says:

I like the third and the fourth nail art piece.

  327. Allee says:

i love the last one as well. looks like a modern dreamcatcher :)

  328. Lily says:

Number 3 is the best, Love it!

  329. Jennifer says:

    #5 for me!!

  330. Andrea says:

The one named bloodline is very precious

  331. hanneri says:

I really like the combination of colours that were used. I like the idea of slimline nails but don’t know if I am patient enough to do it myself. I like most of the nail accessories, except maybe nr 2

  332. Lillian says:

I love the last one! Anything chic and feathery is always nice.

  333. eva says:

I like the first one! It

  334. Esther says:

    I love the third one!
    It’s so very GaGa!

  335. Kassandra says:

    I love the 4th one

  336. Sandy says:

I love all the polishes, not a fan of the rings, but I’d say the one I like the best is the 3rd one. TY so much!

  337. gnoma says:

I absolutely prefer the second one. I love bronze and black jewelry, and I like the shape of nails in second pic too.

About the slim-line technique, I always use it, because my nails need it ;P

  338. Loqi says:

    The last one!

  339. Deana says:

Ooh, the third one is my favorite! Personally, I don’t care for the slimline look, it looks a bit clunky to me in this setting. On plain painted nails, it looks unfinished. Just my personal taste.

  340. Donna J says:

I choose the second one, it makes me think of a comet! I love the colors and textures of the clothes and how the nails echo that.

  341. Pat says:

Day 3. My fav is the second photo of nail art with the base of what looks like copper wire with brown feathers. Love the polish!!!

  342. Steph says:

My fave is the last one.

  343. Cindy says:

    The first one :)

  344. Michelle says:

I like the very last look in on your post. Not quite sure what to make of the technique it seems as if it would be difficult to actually function with that much nail going on …love the colors though. Wonderful for Fall

  345. jack says:

The third is the winner for me. It’s decadent with feeling over the top or too thrown together like some of the others.

  346. MarciaF says:

I like the 4th one, there’s something about it that I think I’d enjoy wearing.

  347. Abby says:

It totally is nail porn. The third and fourth looks are my favorite.

  348. Sarah says:

I like #5 the most, but maybe taht’s just cause she’s hodling it up to her head in a way that makes it look like a fascinator. Also, I normally hatehatehate tips, but I think the slimline thing is really cool.

  349. Stephanie says:

I like the 4th one the best

  350. Jen(ny) says:

I really like the last one; it’s very whimsical.

  351. kirsten says:

    The first one. OOOOOH

  352. Nellie says:

love the last one, its so retro!

  353. Karina S. says:

My favorite one is the 5th look… loved the feathers and the metal ^__^
