Deborah Lippmann Spring & Summer 2011 Preview

deborah-lippmann-spring-summer-2011 As a Deborah Lippmann fangirl one of the highlights of New York Fashion Week is getting to chat with her backstage.  She always has a great color story to tell and seems genuinely excited to see me.  I’m not going to lie, it makes me feel like a bit of a rock star.  She really knows how to make a girl feel special.  It’s really no wonder she has such a celebrity following.

I’ve had the chance to catch up with Deb at both the ADAM and Lela Rose runway shows and was able to get a preview of her new nail colors for Spring and Summer 2011.  Curious to see what she cooked up?  Find out after the jump!

It’s no secret that Deb’s been having somewhat of a glitter party in 2010.  Between the Fall, Holiday and Anniversary colors you can bling your nails until your heart is content.  So the natural question is, when is the party over?  The buck stops at Spring 2011 with a whimsical, confectionery glitter and a creamy neutral.

Naked is a semi-opaque soft beige.  It’s not too pink and not too yellow.  It gives enough coverage to color the tip of the nail but doesn’t completely mask it.  It sounds like a beige version of Before He Cheats, no?

Glitter In The Air was inspired by Pink’s performance at the Grammys.  Deb wanted create something that was ethereal and airy with bits of glitter that remind her of circus cotton candy pieces.  Similar to her other glitter shades we have hexagonal sequins in pink & baby blue yet the rest of the glitter pieces are more haphazard as they float through the sea of billowy blue.

Girls Just Want To Have Fun and I Know What Boys Like are rich and opaque creme colors for Summer 2011.  One of the questions Deb asked herself was, “How we do make coral wearable?”  While coral seems to be a popular summer color, Deb says it’s not necessarily a big seller.  That women want to wear it but for some reason they don’t so she set out to make a shade with enough pink it to make it less daunting.  The indigo creme is a welcome addition to the Deborah Lippmann lineup and a perfect cool compliment to the grape colored Call Me Irresponsible.

Thoughts on the Deborah Lippmann Spring & Summer colors? I’m really into Glitter In The Air and I’m already thinking up layering combos for it. I’m thinking it would look amazing over Waking Up In Vegas and Deb threw out Don’t Tell Mama as a base. If you’re lucky enough to still have a bottle of Rehab, like I do, wouldn’t that look cool underneath?

Pink and blue together = my soft spot! I can’t wait for Glitter in the Air. I just bought my first Deborah Lippmann yesterday (Across the Universe, natch) and it’s safe to say I’m in love.

  2. Janice says:

I am a big fan of Deborah Lippmann’s glitters and Glitter In The Air is a must have for me! I hope you are able to show swatches some time!

  3. xoxo carleigh says:

I need to have glitter in the air right nowwww. It looks so gorgeous in the bottle. Wonder if it will look as beautiful when worn…

  4. Kistenh says:

    Oh very very pretty!

  5. Wow! Love Glitter in the Air and Naked. Can’t wait for next summer already! Haha!

  6. Belle says:

I like the idea of Glitter in the Air, but I’m afraid of how it would be executed. Will it be another Funky Chunky?

However, I am totally digging I Know What Boys Like (I assume this is the indigo?).

    • kirsten says:

Of course not! Funky Chunky only had sequins for one thing and the sequins were the exact same color as the polish. Almost all sparkly Lippmann polishes since then have both sequins AND glitter. Just check out the swatches of Across the Universe, Bad Romance, Lady Sings The Blues, and Ruby Red Slippers on here to get an idea of how its executed. They all have much darker bases, but the idea is exactly the same as with Glitter In The Air. Funky Chunky is something else entirely… yuck!

      • Belle says:

LOL. This polish really brings out the worst reactions on people :)

I saw this glitter used on top of Fashion in one photo that Deborah posted on Twitter. Though the photo was grainy, I wasn’t that impressed. I’m hoping Michelle would have swatches soon because this really piqued my curiosity!

  7. Lauren says:

I’m excited about Glitter in the Air, Girls Just Want To Have Fun and I Know What Boys Like! They all look gorg. :)

  8. Scrangie says:

Dude… that glitter… It gave me goosebumps! Thanks for posting pics!

  9. Nicole says:

I was talking to a Deborah Lippmann rep at DC’s Fashion Night Out, and she told me that these polishes need to be refrigerated. Is that for real, or is it ok just to keep them in my storage container?

    • kirsten says:

Now that you mention it I think I might actually have seen that printed on the boxes her polish comes in or at least on the glitters! I’ve never refrigerated any of my Lippmanns and many of them are almost 3 years old and they still work great for me including the glitters. I got Ruby Red Slippers last year and never put it in the fridge then used it in June this year for the Eclipse premiere and it was exactly the same as every other time I’ve used it.

I’d love to know what Michelle thinks about it.

  10. Melissa W. says:

Aaaah, I’m loving Glitter in the Air. I can’t wait to see a photo of someone wearing it. :)

  11. kirsten says:

Show some mercy Michelle! I always completely lose my head over Lippmann polishes especially the glitters! Making us wait so many months for spectacular little beauties like these is like torture! I still have my bottle of Rehab too so I’d love to see what Glitter In The Air would look like with it.

  12. I’m excited for Girls Just Want to have Fun! I’m not sure why it’s the trend that the market loves corals and yet doesn’t wear them. I love corals on my nails And on my lips! …. and even my cheeks.

  13. Louise says:

Goodness, they are some amazing colours. Does anyone know if we can get Deborah Lippmann in the UK? Otherwise I think I might not be able to sleep….

  14. Cristina says:

“Glitter in the Air” is looking like a Must Have to me. It looks like it should taste good lol.

  15. Kitty says:

I like the glitter one! Yum!

  16. Lori says:

Love them! Now I want a modified French mani: Glitter in the Air with Naked tips. Or, I wonder how they’d look layered . . .

  17. Audwina says:

Glitter In The Air is so beautiful!!
I can’t express my frustration that you can’t buy Deborah Lippmann in the UK (yet).

  18. Sarah B. says:

Oh my, Glitter is in the Air is the cutest polish ever!

  19. Ashley says:

She’s spot on about the Coral – they always tend to be too orange and unwearable for me.

  20. crystal says:

MUST HAVE. Glitter in the Air…. it gave me that feeling that only a super special, one-of-a-kind, bottle of nail polish can give. Chills of giddiness?

  21. Winnie says:

I’ll be interested to see how Glitter In The Air looks on the nail, it certainly looks like fun! Otherwise I’m interested in seeing that blue and I’d definitely check out the other two. I haven’t been disappointed yet by any of Deborah’s polishes!

  22. I think Deborah is right, women want to wear coral but can’t. With my cool toned coloring corals look HORRID on me, but this version looks much better with my coloring. That little bit of pink makes a big difference!

And, I definitely agree with you about feeling like a rock star around Deborah. The time you brought me to meet her last year was amazing. I may have just stared at her like a dumb ass the entire time. She was so nice and personable with everyone! She was a ton of fun and her enthusiasm was such a nice change of pace.

  23. K says:

Glitter in the Air definitely looks interesting, though I’m a sucker for hex glitter. :) Can’t wait to see swatches!

  24. Mary says:

I love the Deborah Lippmann polishes but I can’t get them in Australia?Any suggestions about which online stores will ship please?

    *drools*

  26. Virginia says:

Glitter in the Air is amazing! It captures Pink’s performance beautifully. Can’t wait to own it!

  27. Pan says:

I definitely am excited for Glitter in the Air. I will never stop loving glitter, haha. I think it would look great over Waking Up In Vegas, too. I actually think it might be interesting to try layering this over Naked. I am also digging Girls Just Want to Have Fun. (:

  28. Ronnie says:

Beautiful colors, all of them. If you can, I’d love to see a comparison of Girls Just Want to Have Fun with RBL Coral. That’s my current fave coral.

  29. Alllison says:

i have a feeling glitter in the air is going to sell out quickly

  30. Karina says:

Glitter in the Air is the only unique one, so it seems, and I can’t wait to see it ON …. because, as it is, it kind of looks like floor mopping solution! Hee hee! Not saying that to be rude at all – that’s why I can’t wait to see it come alive on the nail!!!
Looking forward to seeing I Know What Boys Like, too – OK, now can’t get the song out of my head. Woo hoo!! “I know what guys want, I know what boys like, boys like, boys like ME!”

  31. Jimmy K. Designs says:

BAH!!! I need to get a job asap! I haven’t bought polish in so long and that creamy blue sparkle is calling to me

  32. V says:

Oh Glitter in the Air has to go over Zoya Kotori!

  33. Robin says:

Glitter In The Air is certainly one of the more unique looking polishes I’ve seen.

Sad to say, it kind of reminds me of vomit? I suppose that’s a deconstructed look!

I really look forward to seeing it on the nail.

  34. Daniele says:

I wanna see swatches really bad!!!!!

    Love the site.

  35. Kam says:

I can’t wait for swatches. Glitter in the Air looks like a party in a bottle.

  36. Kam says:

Glitter in the Air also reminds me of birthday cake ice cream.

  37. Arrianne says:

Oh man, that glitter looks awesome. Hopefully it looks as good on the nail.

  38. Jules says:

any info on when this line will be in stores? there’s nothing about it on the deborahlippmann website. thanks!

    • All Lacquered Up says:

I imagine it will come out in February or March. She doesn’t release her Spring collections as early as some of the big salon brands. When I get more info I’ll be sure to post it

  39. Sirena says:

I saw glitter in the air on Lippmann’s website and nordstrom. I can’t wait to see swatches!! Sounds like a fun polish
