Rescue Beauty Lounge Fall 2010 Comparisons

rescue beauty lounge fall 2010 collection bottles. the real housewives of the tudor dynasty The Rescue Beauty Lounge Fall 2010 Collection pre-order is just hours away, are your trigger fingers ready? Remember you must be on the RBL email list to receive the link to the pre-order that starts at 1pm EST and ends tomorrow.  Otherwise you will have to wait until the collection goes on sale sometime in September and hope there is enough stock.

The pre-order is just that, a pre-order.  It’s your chance to reserve the colors you want from the Fall collection when the September shipment comes in.  RBL limited edition shades sell out fast so if there’s a color you know you want, you better jump on it now.

I want to thank you all for participating in my new method of doing comparisons.  Your suggestions shaped this post and reminded me of some colors I never would have thought of.  I hope this is useful in your purchase decisions not only to discover the existence of dupes but to get a better understanding of how the colors look by showing them next to shades in the same color family.

If you missed my initial swatches and review of this collection check out the RBL “Real Housewives of the Tudor Dynasty” post.

The majority of your requests for Anne comparisons involved either Zoya Edyta, Nubar Verde or both.  Both of those colors are much darker than Anne.  While Edyta has a similar mossy base, the glitter is much chunkier with a lot of golden undertones.  Anne’s unique pink shimmer really sets it apart.  Verde has a lot of blue in its base.

A lot of you wanted to see Diamond Cosmetics Never So Ever-Green compared to Anne but I don’t own it. However, I’ve been told that Priti’s Powder Puff Cactus is a dupe and since I do have that one, I’m showing it instead.  Of all the RBL Fall polishes, Anne is the only one with a kissing cousin.  The base colors in these are close though not identical and the shimmer in Anne still makes it look different when dry.

Catherine has no twins, relatives or even close friends in my collection.  Its smokey purple base is unmatched.  It really brings out the purple shimmer in Chanel Paradoxal when they are side by side and butter London Marrow looks like a vibrant royal purple.

The only color I could think of that might be similar is Dior Silver Purple but the finish is so different and the silver pearl in the Dior makes it lighter with a more winter-y feel.  As you can see, China Glaze Bogie’s red plum hue is no match.

All I can say is that Catherine H really stumped you guys as I saw no requests that I could fulfill.  So I went digging and came up with two shades that have that same grey blue base though they’re still not a match.  Icing My Blue Heaven was a random impulse buy and I had never opened it before.  The brush was so splayed and wonky I could barely polish my nail.  Barielle Slate of Affairs from the All Lacquered Up collection is much lighter and more washed out.  It has a hint of shimmer but the finish is nowhere near as sparkly as Catherine H.

I saw Jane referred to on the RBL Facebook Page as Opaque Nude 2.0.  You may or may not know that Opaque Nude was discontinued and Jane is Ji Baek’s new twist on that shade.  In all honesty, I love Jane much more than ON because it’s not as peachy.  It’s more neutral making it more universally flattering.  I also saw some requests for Grunge comparisons so I did an all RBL comp for you.

In an attempt to find a similar shimmery neutral to compare to Jane the best I could do, based on your requests, is Barielle Belly Dance from the summer collection and Sephora By OPI Under My Trench Coat.  Both of them are way off from Jane.  The only polish I found that could be in Jane’s color family is Essie Body Language though it’s lighter and nowhere near as opaque.  I saw some shout outs for Essie Playa Del Platinum but that one is really yellow in comparison.

***EDITED TO ADD*** When I originally posted this review I wasn’t able to post a comparison of Anne with Sephora by OPI Run With It because I had gifted my bottle away. However Styrch from Pretty In Dayton was kind enough to allow me to use her comparison.

Rescue Beauty Lounge polishes can be purchased from RescueBeauty.com.  They retail for $18/ea for a .4oz bottle.

Now that you’ve seen the RBL’s compared to other polishes has your shopping list changed at all?  Which colors do you plan to pre-order?  Do you like my new way of doing comparisons?  Do you have a suggestions for improvements?

FYI, these will go up in my Comparisons Gallery as soon as I get the damn thing fixed.  I currently can’t upload new photos and my WordPress ignorant self can’t seem to fix it.

Disclosure: Product samples were furnished to me by Barielle, butter London, Chanel, China Glaze, Dior, Nubar, Priti, RBL and Zoya.  The polishes from SOPI & Icing and RBL Opaque Nude & Grunge were purchased by me.  For more info view my Disclosure Policy.

Thanks for the comparisons! Also, I’m guessing that’s a typo in the price at the end of the post, right? ;)

  2. Lauren says:

Just wanted to give you a heads up on a typo above; it says that RBL polish retails for $8 instead of $18… thank you for the great comparisons, I had been wondering if Zoya Edyta could satisfy my lemming for Anne if need be!

  3. Lauren says:

Oops, you forgot the 1 before the 8 in the price. :) I originally thought I was going to order Anne and Catherine. Now I’m definitely ordering Catherine H and I’m even thinking Jane now too. I’m passing on Anne, because even though I see the difference in Verde, I think it’s close enough that I don’t need both. I’m shocked at how Marrow looks in comparison to Catherine. I feel like it looks so much darker on me. I haven’t used it for a full mani or pedi yet, but on just one finger it was so much darker than I thought it would be. I’m going to wait on Catherine for now. I did a total switcharoo!

    • All Lacquered Up says:

It was pretty bright when I took the pic with Marrow in it. You’re right, it is darker but next to Catherine it photographs much brighter for some reason. It’s really weird.

  4. liz says:

    arent they 18$ dollars each?

  5. carina says:

im so confused! initially i thought id buy anne and the two catherines but now im thinking maybe the catherines & jane…so confused now lol….

  6. melli says:

Your post has just ensured that I will buy them all :)! Thanks for the comparisons!

  7. Ashley says:

Even though some of the comparisons come close, I think Anne is still worth it. I love how even and almost subtle the shimmer is, and the first pictures you posted of it really captured my attention.

  8. Susana says:

Damn, now I need Jane AND Grunge! Plus the two Catherines… I don’t wear a lot of green, so I’m not getting Anne this time.
    Thanks for the comparisons!

  9. Jane says:

This post is really tempting me! Especially seeing how cool-toned Jane is compared to other neutrals. My skin is very cool-toned, so I’m always searching for anything like that. Sadly, the price tag is pretty high for me. Must! Resist!

  10. Wow, no dupes! RBL is good like that, though, in my opinion. Every color that they make seems to be uniquely their own.

  11. Liz says:

I am so torn. I love Jane, Catherine and Catherine H but RBL polishes chip SO fast on me (within hours), I can’t figure out why. I can’t justify it! :( I think I’m crying inside, lol.

  12. Liz says:

    Oops, love Anne, not Jane.

  13. Grace says:

At first I thought Anne would be my pick, from this collection, but I’m really loving Catherine. The comparisons really show how muted it is, which makes it perfect for me, since I have tons of really vibrant purples, but none like this!

Jane is also really pretty, but I already have Body Language, and Playa del Platinum really suits my skin tone, so I’m thinking Jane would wind up just being a less flattering option. Maybe once they’re released I’ll go visit her in person (if there are any left!) and see for myself.

  14. How about OPI Skinny’ Dippin in Lake Michign to compare to RBL Jane?

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Skinny Dippin, which is a great color, is more of a band-aid color than a creamy neutral. Skinny Dippin always reminds me of that sparkly nude bodysuit Britney Spears wore to perform on the VMAs all those years ago. You know, before she went all crazy town?

  15. ahimsa says:

Do you have Sephora by OPI’s Run With It? It’s similar to Under My Trenchcoat but lighter and I think it might be a closer comparison to Jane.

    • All Lacquered Up says:

I had it but sent it to a friend. I really need to pick up a new bottle. That may be the only polish that comes close to Jane and I am kicking myself for not getting a new bottle before doing comparisons.

  16. Zara says:

These are all so gorgeous…I really want them all, but at $18 a bottle, I just don’t have that kind of money.

  17. Amy says:

I just pre-ordered Jane and Anne… this is the first time I’ve ever spent over $10 on a single polish. The floodgates have opened! My wallet is going to hate me now :D

I just couldn’t resist, the colours are so unique and beautiful.

  18. Alllison says:

all of these colors make me really excited for the Fall. I’m already thinking of future outfits.

  19. Ronnie says:

I pre-ordered them all, in the middle of a mediation (it went two hours over, so it’s not technically my fault :)). I thought it was so funny though that you mentioned Opaque Nude as being peachy; I’m wearing it now and it looks creamy and almost chalky on me. I think because I’m African-American my skin tone changes the color, because it looks COMPLETELY different on you than on me.

  20. Tasha says:

I love all these RBLs but they are sooo expensive!

  21. Serena says:

Too bad these don’t have closer dupes, I guess I need both Catherines.

  22. Grace says:

Gah – I caved and ordered Anne and Catherine, plus Grunge and Teal. (I know it won’t ship until September, but I didn’t want to pay 2x the shipping). It’s pricey, but I figure it can be my birthday present to myself.

I know the new OPI Teal is a very close dupe for RBL Teal. I went back and forth over whether it was worth the extra $10 for the RBL instead of the OPI and after (just coincidentally) doing back to back OPI JITNB and RBL Diddy Mow manis, I decided that it was. RBL polishes are just in a league of their own.

  23. Apriltini says:

I love the comparisons. For me, it’s always better to see several similar colors, because you can see the undertones and subtle color differences better.

  24. kirsten says:

Pre-ordered them all! I just couldn’t help myself! Please review the new Butter London collection. I already got All Hail McQueen, but I want to wait to order Marrow and Victoriana until I see swatches first even though I REALLY want Marrow. I wonder if Victoriana looks anything like Catherine H?

    • Zemlet says:

I just got Victoriana and it is more turquoise than Catherine looks. If you are familiar with Butter London, it is similar to Artful Dodger, but with antique silver running through it. I wore it all last week and it was great with denim.

  25. MacKenzie says:

I just ordered them all, plus an extra Catherine for a friend, plus No More War. No regrets – they’re all gorgeous.

  26. Kitty says:

Ooooh! They look so pretty but I have to look past the price tags to justify a purchase!

  27. Winnie says:

Ok, you are truly bad for my wallet! I just pre-ordered both of the Catherines and Anne, plus I finally ordered your baby, Mismas and Under The Stars and Dead Calm. Hmm… I think I have a problem, I’m a polish-aholic!

  28. Faye says:

I pre-ordered Catherine, Catherine H, and Anne (Jane was too grunge-y for me). I can’t wait to get them! There were so many gorgeous fall polish colors this year: between this, China Glaze Vintage Vixen, Zoya’s colors, and Chanel Paradoxal, I might not even mind when summer ends :).

  29. Becky says:

I’m a new nail polish fanatic–in general, how quickly do these limited edition colors usually sell out? They’re absolutely amazing, but I can’t spend that much right now :(

    • All Lacquered Up says:

It’s hard to say. It depends on how much inventory Ji orders and how big the pre-sale is. You could try emailing her in early September before the official on sale date. She should have a good idea of how much open stock will be available by then.

  30. Miss says:

It might just be this particular collection, but I feel like you did a better job with the comparisons before. I’ve been following your blog for at least a year, and never once have I been disappointed in your comparison posts, until now. I also don’t like how long we have to wait to see that comparisons. I prefer to see them right away when i initially view the collection.

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate you speaking up. I know giving criticism isn’t easy.

I thought this way would be better so I could accommodate everyone’s requests. When I do comparisons in the review myself I have left out obvious choices and thought having everyone weigh in would be more helpful. I get that you want to see everything right away but I have so many requests to see certain collections, certain comparisons, etc that I can’t fulfill everyone’s requests at the same time. I’m trying to do what works best for me and all of you but unfortunately that means that some things will have to wait. If a strong majority agrees that comparisons in the review are better, I will go back to that method.

      • cidell says:

I like this method. Even you noted that there were colors you hadn’t thought of before. Plus, you managed to eek this out during the pre-sale time period. So, we could still make a decision.

  31. Kam says:

OMGosh! Michelle, these swatch comparisons are sooooo great! They help a bunch with trying to find the right colored polish for your look. I didn’t like Chanel’s Pardoxal, but seeing that Butter London’s Marrow is not what I’ve been waiting for my opinion about Paradoxyl is lifting.

I discovered Dior’s Silver Purple after it was no longer available, but now I have a chance to get that color with RBL’s Catherine. Thanks.

  32. Oh My Gawd!!! This post is sooooooo good!!! Thank you so much! It’s too good!

I ordered Jane and Anne (at 10a.m. sharp this morning-CA time!) and am so excited about them!

I am triple excited about Jane, especially now after seeing her next RBL Opaque Nude and RBL Grunge (both of which I am the proud owner of!).

Seeing Jane compared to the two makes me love it all the more!

Thank you so much for a great post!!! :)

  33. amina says:

i love all of these but especially jane – going to check them out. thanks!

  34. milktea says:

I still like Paradoxal best! :-)

  35. Originalrara says:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your comparisons!!!! They are so handy when trying to pare down my shopping list (as an owner of 300+ polishes). I pre ordered all of these and I’m still glad I did! Thanks!

  36. Wow these look fabulous! I am going to have to pre-order Catherine; it’s so unique!

  37. Kelly says:

This is off topic, but I just saw this news report about Mad Men nail polishes for the fall. http://www.thefrisky.com/post/246-and-now-mad-men-nail-polish/

I’m a big fan of the show and would love if you could find out more!

  38. Mo says:

Thank you once again for your awesome info and pictures. If it weren’t for your ‘heads up’ I may have missed the opportunity to pre-order Jane! I can’t wait to get it. Love that color! The comparisons are also a great feature. Have you ever done a “comparison” shot with RBL’s Diddy Mow?

  39. Fefah says:

    Marvelous!!!

I’m brazilian, and love your comparisons.
Don’t exist anything like this here!

  40. I’m obsessed with Rescue Beauty Lounge polish. The shades are amazing. Every season she comes out with incredible colors. There are a million polishes in this world but RBL colors are the most fashion-forward and sophisticated to me. Love your posts!

  41. Michelle says:

I’m a fan of all things beauty…I”m glad I came across your site! It’s great!

Thanks for sharing. I’m a new follower :)

    XOXO

    Michelle

  42. Jen says:

Wow… these shades are to die for, Michelle! Thanks for the sneak peek, and the AMAZING analysis of what shades are similar! Whoa, that was above and beyond!

  43. zb says:

I totally thought I might pass on these, but the comparisons have convinced me I need Anne and Catherine. I don’t know if I should thank you or not. ;-)

  44. Lady Tess says:

Hi, thank you so much for your wonderful site! Of course, I think you’re a horrible enabler, too. ;-)

I’m wondering if Jane is anywhere close to Yummy Mummy from Butter London. It seems to have a similar base, and Yummy Mummy looks really weird on my skin tone. (I know their ad copy says it looks great on everyone…I’m the exception, apparently!)

  45. attila the honey says:

Hello, I want to respond to Liz’s comment at 11:27 and to anyone who is curious about the RBL polish line. As a longtime RBL user. I find that any RBL polish works best with the RBL base coat prep, base coat and top coat. Yes, they are expensive, no doubt about it. But I have never found another brand that consistently works well and lasts a long time on my nails while also being comprised of vibrant, unique colors. The RBL polish color formula is thicker for me than anything else that I’ve tried, which I prefer. A trick that can reduce chipping (you may already know this, but it makes a difference) is to make sure that you have no polish or lotion residue on your nails before applying. Also, a small amount of extra top coat swiped across the nail tip tends to prevent chips. I believe RBL polishes are worth every penny. I sincerely hope this information is helpful! I really enjoy reading this blog!

    • All Lacquered Up says:

I couldn’t agree with you more. I have Ji’s treatment set and it definitely makes the wear so much better. In the interview I did with Ji a couple years ago she told me that she tests every single polish with her treatments and if she can’t get 9 days wear, the color goes back to the lab.

  46. Heather says:

How does SOPI’s Absinthe Makes the Heart compare to Anne? I don’t think it has the pink shimmer, but I think it’s along the same vein, or am I completely off base?

  47. Heya! gilt groupe is selling Deborah Lippmann tomorrow Thursday at noon!!

  48. I am a nail polish fanatic! Chanel, Butter, RBL all of them! Nudes, reds, brights! Love em all! CBeauty..

  49. JenD says:

How does Jane compare to Lippmanns Waking Up In Vegas?

  50. ECP says:

just started following not too long ago. LOVEEEEEE ur blog! do you ever do nail art?

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Thank you so much! I’m not much into nail art only because I’m not very good at it. Plus I feel like there’s a fine line between cute and tacky with nail art so I’m not a huge fan but I certainly appreciate the artistry behind it.

  51. Sky says:

    Hi Michelle,
Great post! I love those neutrals on you. I think I’ll check out $OPI’s Run With It.

  52. Madi says:

A dupe of Jane is ELF’s desert haze.

  53. Karen says:

    Hi Michelle,
Is RBL’s Jane, similar to Milani Bare to Wear or Lippmann Waking Up in Vegas?
    Thanks!

  54. These are beyond lovely! Thank-you so much for the comparisons, though it makes me want Catherine even more now! Anne I think I could possibly dupe if I had the priti one and added a bit of white-gold pigment into it. Thanks again!

  55. Charlotte Glass says:

I just got my bottle of Anne last night. OMG I have never been in love with a green polish before but I don’t think I could have fallen harder.

  56. Jen says:

You have the most thorough, well-written and informed posts of all the varnish addicts out there. Your blog has saved me literally THOUSANDS of dollars. Much love!

  57. Just curious if you think that Sally Hansen’s Fedora would be dupe for Jane.

  58. Tina says:

I have ginger+liz tough luxe and was wondering how this compares with Anne. Thanks!!

  59. Kathie says:

Love the purples. Thanks for the comparisons, I spend SO much on nail polish, this will help!
