Cosmoprof 2010 Day 2 Recap

By on July 20, 2010
in CND, Cosmoprof, Orly, SpaRitual, Zoya
cosmoprof-day-2-2010 Monday was utter craziness at Cosmoprof North America. Christine and I arrived bright and early and hit the ground running.

We met with the teams at CND, OPI, Orly, SpaRitual and Zoya and I think by the end of the day we were both visually overwhelmed.  You can’t really grasp the scope of how large this show is unless you’re here.  Outside of all the major nail, hair and skin care brands that are represented there are a tons of smaller and international brands to check out.

Three of the big trends I’m noticing are keratin treatments, hair tinsel and gel polish.  The amount of brands that have come out with those three products is exploding.  Check out our finds from Day 2 after the jump!

Our first stop of the day was at the Orly and SpaRitual booth to check out what they have coming out from now through the holidays.

Orly Cosmix FX is their Fall collection and without even swatching a single polish I’m predicting this a must-have. The polishes contain crystals and flash multiple colors creating what I’m calling a multi-chrome effect. Due to the special formula the polishes will retail for $10.

For Halloween 2010 we’re seeing some classic Halloween shades repromoted.

Orly Instant Artist is a new nail art line that launched in April. I really love this bottle shape and was pleased to discover that in addition to their full size treatment products, Orly launched them in this size bottle as well.

I posted a pic of Orly Tis The Season from my phone on Sunday but here’s a better shot.

Next up, SpaRitual. One of things Christine has been curious about is brands that put the “Vegan” stamp on their polish. Is it a marketing tool or are there non-vegan nail polish ingredients? According to the rep for SpaRitual some shimmer polishes contain fish scales and SpaRitual does not. Who knew?

Imagine will be launching for Fall and there is a gorgeous duo-chrome in the lineup.

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, SpaRitual will release the In Pink collection. Two colors, a pale pink and beige metallic, will be sold to support Living In Pink.

If you’ve ever had issues with your SpaRitual wear time, you should check out the new TrueBond system.  TrueBond is a three piece Primer, Base Coat and Top Coat system designed to extend the life of your manicure.

Holiday 2010 brings us the Holiday Glow trio with red, pale silver and burnished gold shimmers.  I also got a peek at Spring/Summer and there are some fun colors and more tranquil shades coming our way but I can’t discuss them just yet.

Christine was really excited to visit the CND booth so she could try the new Shellac manicure.  I was excited to finally meet CND Education Ambassador Torie Savickis (pictured below) and visit with the whole CND team including the fabulous Jan Arnold who was wearing the most blingtastic silver glitter heels.  Torie (aka PolishedPinky) and I have been tweeting with each other for quite some time now so it was great to put a face with a name and talk nails.

I previously reported that we’d see new Shellac shades this Fall but due to the overwhelming demand for the Shellac system, that launch has been pushed back to early 2011.  So to quell everyone’s thirst for new colors, CND has come up with layering combinations to create new shades.  You can get a purple, lavender and pewter (seen below) in addition to many other shades by layering Shellac.  Torie topped Fedora with Strawberry Smoothie and added a some glitz to with a bit of nail art glitter.  Aren’t they hot?  Totally Vegas! Be on the lookout for Christine’s report on her experience with Shellac in the coming weeks.

Speaking of Shellac, one of my friends that came to Vegas with me got Shellac’d last Wednesday before we left Cleveland.  Steph chose Fedora and as you can see, after five days it’s still perfect outside of the nail growth.

While Christine was getting Shellac’d I stopped by the OPI booth and was sad to learn that Suzi was unable to attend the show but delighted to meet OPI President George Schaeffer. George showed me the new Burlesque collection for Holiday which is half glitter party, half holiday reds, golds and bronzes.  The glitters are insane and if you missed out on the Alice In Wonderland collection, the Burlesque glitters should satisfy that lemming.  I was fortunate to leave with a bottle of Simmer & Shimmer and I can’t wait to get home and swatch it.

Did You Know? George told me that for every collection that OPI releases, the creative team comes up with an average of 600 names before the final twelve are selected.  600??  Can you imagine?  He jokingly shared that there is usually alcohol involved in those meetings and I don’t doubt it!

Our last stop of the day was to meet with the Reyzis family at the Zoya booth.  The Cleveland based company truly is one big family and I was pleased to meet the woman who started it all, Zoya Reyzis.  Zoya is charming, funny and a great story teller.  I was mesmerized as she told us the story of how she met her husband Michael, how they escaped to this country as refugees and how the Zoya brand was founded.  She’s an amazing woman.

We also got a look at the Zoya Holiday collection and it’s really beautiful. Plus there’s a fun new product coming out that I can’t wait to tell you about. I hope to have info I can share with you soon!

So what product caught your eye the most? How much is your wallet crying? Is anyone else kind of hoping for Fall even though it means cold weather and shorter days??

The Imagine line from Sparitual is tantalizing. So is that glitterific bottle of OPI!

  2. Emily says:

Holy cow! What a lucky girl you are! :) I can’t wait to get my mitts on those Orly’s, the new OPI burlesque collection and as always the new Zoya’s (i still need the fall ones too). I am a tad disappointed that Orly is using the same old polishes for Halloween though, you’d think that it would be the perfect opportunity to do something totally unexpected like China Glaze is doing with their glitters.

  3. Annie says:

everything looks incredible! although I’m still curious what as to what hair tinsel is exactly. I can’t wait for my hairstylist to get back so I can ask her all about it.

  4. Denette says:

Oh my I am so excited for all the fall and holiday collections to hit the shelves! I hope that Orly Winter Wonderland is opaque. It looks gorgeous in the bottle!

  5. Jordan says:

I’m totally going to get the white one from the ‘Tis the season collection! And probably some of the Cosmic FX, they look so nice!

WOW. I want Burlesque right now – I wasn’t able to get Mad as a Hatter or Absolutely Alice, but I will be less despairing about it once I get my hands on Simmer and Shimmer. Everything looks amazing; thanks for reporting!

    • kirsten says:

Don’t despair you can still get them! I actually just got both Absolutely Alice and Mad As A Hatter in the mail today! I finally found them at salonsavings.com and ordered them. Absolutely Alice was $7.99, but Mad As A Hatter was $17.99 (expensive, but totally worth it!). Including shipping I paid $33.93 for both. So if you really want them and don’t want to go the ebay route salonsavings.com still has some of both, but I wouldn’t wait too long.

  8. Chris says:

Torie Savickis looks like the actress Mercedes McNab. I love the idea of a Burlesque inspired collection, and that Simmer & Shimmer shade makes me want to weep. I can’t wait for it! ‘Tis the Season has me interested in the gold (maybe a dupe of Bling Dynasty?) and shimmery white shades, and Cosmic FX will earn my dollars through the purchase of the blues and maybe that deep metallic rose shade on the far left.

    • kirsten says:

I was thinking the same thing! When I first saw the pic I actually wondered if it was Mercedes before I read the actual post. I’m drooling over the idea of a Burlesque inspired collection too! There’s just so many possibilities for amazing and unique colors with a Burlesque theme! I’m dying to see the rest of the collection!

  9. Kimberly says:

What ‘product’??? Singular?? You’re kidding, right? ;p I wonder if I can get a second mortgage on a house I just bought….lol!

I see a BUNCH more nail polishes in my future! I bet you see your stash growing too. :)

  10. I think Orly has been doing awesome this year…I always see good things with them, but these past few collections and new things they’ve been trying (Fx, matte, and now, nail art paint) has been so cool!

  11. Lisa says:

ARGH I so can not wait for the Orly Cosmic Fx and OPI Glitters!!!! I hope they come to New Zealand

  12. lacquerholic says:

Sounds like a great day! I think I’m going to have to go next year!

love the cnd shellac layered glittery nails!!!! Drooooool

  15. TJ says:

Simmer and shimmer is sooo purdy! Definitely making note of it and cosmic fx for Fall shopping. Sigh.

  16. oooooooooooooo! Ya know Orly just keeps getting better and better with the colors!

  17. melli says:

Wonderful collections! I am really looking forward to Orly Cosmix. How great was it to meet Zoya Reyzis?! What an inspiration.

I love your dress or blouse in the last pic. It looks great on you! May I ask where you got it??:)

  18. KatieM says:

    2nd Melli on all points!

  19. Meika says:

I may be late but in really starting to like Orly. That SpaRitual collection looks lovely, I may have to start checking them out.

I’m wondering where I will be able to get my OPI fix since the etailers won’t be carrying them anymore.

    • kirsten says:

NO! WHAT? Are you serious? None of them will be carrying OPI anymore or just some of them? Where did you hear this? I had no idea! That just put a damper on my obsessing over Simmer & Shimmer… I always buy online!

  20. Katy M says:

I adore the entire SpaRitual line and especially can’t wait to see the duo-chrome!!! I love the pink metallic for breast cancer, too as it’s a personal cause I champoin and find it very interesting they did something different than the every-day pale pink other companies do.

    Also, OPI’s Simmer & Shimmer is a must-have for me! :)

Thank you so much for all of the awesome pics!!!

  21. Katy M says:

Oh! I forgot to say I’m looking forward to SpaRitual’s TruBond, too! I never have issues with their polish when I use their brand of base and top coats, but am hoping to see if I can get even MORE wear from the polishes with this! :)

  22. wow, Simmer & Shimmer looks beautiful.

  23. Lauren says:

Gushing over SpaRitual imagine! And I’d love to know what CND Shellac colors make purple. I was waiting on new colors to try it, because none of them were 2 week worthy imo. I love the pewter too, but I am so curious about the purple.

  24. Jenn says:

OPI FOREVER. i loooove Simmer & Shimmer, but im already waiting on Mad As A Hatter… (N)i cant wait for your swatch, id like to see it compared to MAAH

  25. kirsten says:

WOW! The holiday collections are what I’m most looking forward to, but I’m especially dying over the OPI Burlesque, Orly Cosmic FX, and China Glaze Tis the Season collections! I’m totally drooling over that bottle of OPI Simmer & Shimmer! I want it NOW! I can’t wait to see the rest of that collection! I just now finally got Absolutely Alice and Mad As A Hatter (at salonsavings.com if anyone else is looking for them. Beware MAAH was $17.99, but worth it!) so I’m on a massive glitter kick between those and the 5 new Lippmann glitters I got. Scrangie’s swatches of China Glaze’s Halloween collection also have me super excited, but its OPI Burlesque, Cosmic FX, and China Glaze Tis the Season that have me counting the days until the holiday season starts despite my hatred of winter. Ok well that and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 in November!

  26. Kat says:

I’m in a bit of shock after reading that Orly FX is going to cost $10 retail… I buy my Orly polishes for $5.99. Is the formula really so special to justify a $4 price increase? odd…

  27. Nicole says:

I have been lusting after the burlesque collection since I saw that leaked pic a month or so ago, so Im wishing away the summer purely just so I can get those! all the others, especially those new Orly’s look fab too. Im especially interested in the nail art bottles, I’ve never seen them before, I will have to search them out! Same goes for Spa Ritual. Dang living in a small town! it would be worth moving to a bigger town just to save on shipping costs!

  28. queenfrostine says:

Eh if OPI’s holiday collection is going to be like their Alice polishes, this is going to be this first year in ages where I wasn’t at all interested in their holiday collection (which is usually my favorite of their release). I love me some blingy polishes, but I’m not at all a fan of glitter polishes with clear bases. They always look so gritty on and take many coats to look “right.”

  29. brii says:

i can not wait to get the orly stuff un fortunally idk where a ulta is near where i live or in sf so no opi for me D: but im deff getting the orly halloween collection i mean cute :D

  30. Tran says:

Do you happen to know when the OPI Burlesque Collection will be out? I’m hearing two different things, September or November. Gah! I want to snatch up the glitters so bad!
