this was fun but can we please give other nail polish brands a chance?
OPI won most of the categories.
    i dont think its fair.

    • All Lacquered Up says:

I hear you but I can’t help how people vote. OPI is a huge brand with quite a following worldwide.

    • amusedPolish says:

I second your thoughts- i liked opi untill their recent actions made me think about them and I definitly won’t purchase any of them because a) their price policy (8$ retail versus 20

      • Serena says:

I’m disappointed that OPI took most of the awards. There are so many great brands out there that are easier to get and cheaper. Misa, Color Club and Diamond are some of my cheap favourites. I don’t live close to an Ulta or Sephora so etailers aren’t only cheaper for me but easier. And OPI’s colour selection isn’t nearly as unique as other brands.

      • paz says:

I’m a little confused by your comment on ‘recent actions’? Could you clarify. Thanks.

        Paz

    • Diane says:

If the readers of this board voted for OPI how is it not fair?

  2. Regina says:

    Nice!
I was wondering whcih Zoya is pictured above? The light sparkly blue one? Thanks in advance!

    • All Lacquered Up says:

That’s Southbeach Ice from the Glamsicles collection. It’s a sheer blue but great for layering. Looks amazing over black.

  3. ErinG says:

    Best Personality

    • Tiffani says:

This is why I’m a fan of the Zoya brand. It’s very classy, humble and you reach out to your fanbase. I believe other nail polish companies should take notes.

    • I totally agree – Zoya wins Best Personality in my book too!! I love the ways you guys connect with fans :)

  4. Megan says:

I love the idea of the polls. It’s always fun to have a say in those sorts of things. I definitely think it should stick around to make another appearance next year!

  5. Zemlet says:

For future Superlatives, it might be nice to see a few of the major runner ups or an honorable mention for 2nd, to see “beyond OPI” and learn about some offbeat faves.

  6. Arrianne says:

WTF at OPI winning that last one.

  7. Breanna says:

Am I the only person who doesn’t like OPI? No matter what I do, it flakes off within two days. I have no idea how it got most athletic, I get better wear from every other brand I’ve tried, including the $2 Sally Hansen line. End rant.

    • Darcie says:

I agree with you for the most part. I do really like OPI’s colors, but China Glaze and Zoya have them beat as far as wearability goes–for me, at least.

      • Breanna says:

Oh yeah, OPI’s colors are fabulous, but the wear is crap. And there isn’t a color OPI has that I can’t get a dupe of from China Glaze or Essie. I haven’t tried Zoya yet but it’s next on my list.

    • Steffi says:

I’m the same way as well, and two days wear with OPI is doing GOOD actually.

    • Susie says:

I’m with you. Colors are fantastic, marketing is great, wide brush is amazing, formula stinks. My fave is Orly. I wish they’d get with the program already and spend some cash on advertising and way more new colors!

  8. nailpolishes says:

    oh :(
    congrats to the winner :)

  9. Chrissy says:

Loved the poll and hope you’ll bring it back next year!

  10. Krystal S. says:

I think it would have been nice to see a list of polish company names. Someone like Cheeky Monkey should have won the best names, had people been aware it existed. I totally forgot about Nfu-Oh’s bottle design myself.

Overall, cool stuff though! Congrats to all the winners!

  11. Debbie says:

I had a lot of fun with the survey. I agree that there should be some way to ensure that people are aware of all the brands out there. I know that I tried to vary my answers so that brands other than OPI got included (even though I did vote for them for a few of the categories). I don’t own a lot of different brands right now but I tried to look online and at the blogs to see what was out there (especially for the best bottle design, best bottle cap, sexiest names, etc.)

    • All Lacquered Up says:

I definitely like the idea of trying to make sure all brands are included but I don’t see a feasible way to do that. There are SO many niche brands on the market that trying to list them all in a survey would be not only time consuming but near impossible. I left the voting blanks open so that all brands could be included but I fear that doing multiple choice wouldn’t work either. The lists would be so long and I would undoubtedly leave some brand out. There were some Aussie brands people voted for that I have never heard of.

  12. Ashley says:

OMG I’M ASHLAYTON! OMG! OMG! haha I’m so excited! and it’s my birthday! YAY!

  13. L says:

Suggestion #1: For each category, name the brands that got the top 3 number of votes. Winner, runner-up, and honorable mention!

Or suggestion #2: Name a winner but provide a list of ALL the brands that got votes for each question, from winner right down to brands that got only one vote. (Not to be too nerdy, but you could put a link to download an Excel table or something like that.) I bet that polish companies and your readers would be very interested in that information.

  14. Samantha says:

Runners up would’ve been interesting, but this was still a lot of fun! I gotta admit, I do like O.P.I. and I can’t say they don’t deserve their awards. Congrats to Ashley on the great prize!

  15. All Lacquered Up says:

Thanks for your input everyone. It’s really helpful.

One thought I had was to make the Most Likely To Succeed category a multiple choice and only include brands that have launched in the past 2-3 years. I think that category confused people as I received votes for both Zoya & China Glaze and I wouldn’t consider either one a “niche” brand per se. Thoughts??

    • melli says:

Excellent idea! I think that will help with the responses. I agree neither Zoya or China glaze fits. I think I voted Ginger and Liz :).

    • I remember in High School, it was multiple choice…people were nominated and you voted from the list. So my vote is that that would be the way to go, especially in this category.

      • Savannah says:

I agree that nominations and then multiple choice would be a good, fair way to do the superlatives in the future.

  16. Megan says:

I think it would be nice for you to use a poll-style where we can see which brands received the greatest % of votes.

It might not be too difficult to do it multiple-choice style. You can have it be multiple-choice and list the top brands as selection choices, and also have the last multiple choice option of having an “other” selection where you can enter the name of the brand that was not listed.

Great poll though, I enjoyed responding to it and reading the results. :)

I’d love to see other polls other than just “superlatives” that might include things such as favorite top coat, favorite base coat, etc.

  17. Congratulation to Ashlayton! :)

  18. Lunuland says:

Loved this–runner-ups would be cool. Thanks for the fun!

  19. lizzie says:

I think This was a great and fun poll, can’t understand the hate towards opi, where I live I have no access to certain brands like Nubar or zoya but seeing them win does not make me unhappy.. Take it for what it’s worth, a fun poll!

    • Ronnie says:

Just an FYI, nubar and zoya are online brands. Try bynubar.com for nubar, and artofbeauty.com for zoya. They’re worth going onto, as they have some totally awesome colors!

  20. April says:

Fun poll; congrats to the winner!

  21. NailPolishFan says:

Loved the contest. I hope you do this again next year. And congrats to Ashlayton:)

  22. Chaosbutterfly says:

lol, this was so much fun. I love superlatives. And a bunch that I voted for won!!

As for OPI doing so well in these, I think that they are definitely deserving of most popular, and class clown. The others…idk about that. lol!!

  23. Katy says:

Zoya really does have the nicest website.

The results are pretty much what you’d expect. Are Orly brushes as comfy-squishy as they look?

    • L says:

Yeah, Orly brushes ARE that good to hold. They have a nice rubbery feeling that makes it easier to move the brush without feeling like it’s going to slip out of your hand.

I like Borghese brushes too because of that spiral handle shape, easier to hold. Also, the bristles are nice. But that rubbery Orly handle is by far the best.

  24. Elizabeth says:

I’m going to chime in on the OPI thing. I think the main reason it takes the cake is that they’ve managed to get themselves into just about every nail and hair salon you walk into so they’ve got marketing and top-of-mind down. Kudos to the company but their product is teh suckage in my book.

I agree it would be fun to see the runners up. :)

  25. kateM says:

I agree if with most. Do some kind of 1st, 2nd, 3rd or since OPI has now graduated they can’t be included in next year’s competition (I’m not an OPI fan either). You mention so many great brands from Avon to Channel hopefully more readers will see there is a world beyond OPI and try a couple, I think they will be pleasantly surprised. p.s. Congrats Ashlayton!

  26. Piz says:

Where was BB Couture? Surely this is the most awesome small brand around – just think green, green and more green. I love Nubar, but I think BB Couture should have won the most likely to suceed crown.

  27. liz says:

which OPI is pictured under biggest flirt??

  28. Diane says:

I enjoyed this and hope you do it again next year

  29. Charlotte Glass says:

I think a best drug store brand catagory should be added. I enjoyed doing this. maybe two surveys next year a top brands and a drug store? just a thought.

  30. Belle says:

Though I agree that I was pretty disappointed OPI ran away with most of the awards (it’s pretty popular, I know), I think the next poll of this kind should have something in place to give chance to other brands, especially those that are less well known compared to OPI.

Another thing that I don’t want to see back is how the categories seemed to be totally unrelated to the yearbook stuff. I dunno, I just find I have to look at the descriptions/definitions all the time.

Maybe including a Top 3 will also be nice, like you did in the past.

I still love these polls though! But I feel that your past polls have been more informative/helpful for me in terms of colors and brands/products to try.

    • Ronnie says:

Really? I dunno, those were definitely some of the categories we were asked to vote for in high school, and I thought she spelled out what the categories were supposed to entail. Just my opinion though.

  31. anono says:

OK, this would be a lot of work, but you could do two rounds, first with open nominations like you did this year, then narrow it down to the top 3 or 5 in each category and have voting on those. Kind of like how Emmy’s/Oscar’s are done. It might give brands other than OPI a better chance and, even if they don’t win, some recognition.

  32. Debbie says:

Def. agree with “Best Dressed” cutest bottle out there!

  33. Laura Iriarte says:

Loved reading the results-even though I missed out on participating :/
Ideas for other categories: fav red, fav pink, etc.
Yes, please repeat next year, and I like the idea of runners up or at least an honorable mention…
    :)
    @lauralovesart

  34. zb says:

Congrats Ashley! It’s an excellent giveaway.

I, too, would love to see the runners up. I think OPI is fine, but there are soooo many other great brands out there.

  35. Danielle says:

    I loved this poll!
I would also love to see a poll of our favorite polishes in each category – favorite red, favorite vampy red, favorite turquoise, etc. I am always searching for those to-die-for, gotta have shades, and I am sure that all of us polish addicts have our favorites that we would vote for. Since I am sure there will be a lot of variation, it would be cool to see the top 3 or top 5 in each category. Maybe you could also ask (but not require) people to include pictures of their choices so that other readers could see the winning shades.

  36. GwenSA says:

    Congrats to Ashley!
I thought the poll was fun also, but if it could be designed as a multiple choice (with 4 or 5 choices for each category) for voting, it would be more helpful. I never knew there were so many cool brands of nail polish out there until I started reading these blogs. Maybe some of the lesser known brands will get more exposure if ppl took more time to make their choices. Just a thought. I also like the idea of favorites in different color and finish categories.

  37. Denise says:

I guess you can’t help how people vote, but I am a little surprised also by some of the winners! I’m really surprised Essie didn’t win anything and by far the Best Personality award should have went to Rescue Beauty Lounge hands down! Ji is extremely interactive with her fans on Facebook, responding immediately to any question or comment you leave and she just finished her 3rd voting competition for her “Bring It Back” shades ( just to name a few)…you really can’t get any more interactive than that! With their only being 5 brands picked out of about 20-30 big names, I wonder if the people on here really know their nail polish brands at all!!
