OPI Summer Flutter Collection Swatches & Review

opi summer flutter collection 2010 bottles OPI Summer Flutter Collection Swatches & ReviewOPI’s butterfly themed Summer Flutter collection is their second summer release.  For some reason thinking about flutterbys, as I like to call them, causes that ridiculous Butterfly song from Crazy Town to pop into my head.  Shoot me now, ha!

I actually started looking at pics of butterflies online to get something sweeter in mind as I played with the polishes.  That was especially necessary as I only have seen Monarchs in my neck of the woods. Nothing nearly as colorful as this collection.  With two foil sparklers, a shimmer flecked pink and a creamy orange, the Summer Flutter collection is perfect for those of you on creme overload.

Catch Me In Your Net is an eye popping sea green foil metallic.  Considering my affinity for blues and greens, is it at all surprising that I rushed to wear this beauty as soon as I got my hands on it?  Like other foils of this nature, it leans towards the semi-sheer side so I needed three coats to get it opaque.  Now the pic here shows VNL (visible nail line) but in person it’s less apparent.  It’s actually much richer and more vibrant than my camera can capture.  Oh and it wears fantastic!  After four days on my nails I could barely detect any tip wear.

As I wore it, I had the nagging feeling that a dupe existed and sure enough Zoya Charla is a dead-on dupe.  I don’t make those kinds of claims often but I dare anyone to tell the difference between them in person.

Wing It! has the same type metallic foil micro-glitter as Catch Me In Your Net only in a blueish purple hue that really pops against the strawberry pink hue.  Again this was a three coat polish for me and while CMIYN had a dupe in the Zoya Sparkle collection, Wing It! has no twin in my stash.

Flower-to-Flower is a bubblegum pink sprinkled with silvery shimmer that looks like micro sugar crystals.  There’s something about this type of pink that always draws me in.  It actually reminds me of one of my all time fave pink, Essie Ball-timore only Flower-to-Flower is deeper and not as warm toned.  The base color is very similar to Zoya Lo from the 2008 Gossip collection.  The formula on this was a bit thicker, like a creme, only for some reason it still needed three coats to get the surface perfectly smooth and opaque.

Flit A Bit is a warm melon tinged orange creme.  It looks like a pretty vivid orange in the bottle but when worn indoors it dries a bit darker with a subtle softness.  In direct sunlight, it’s all systems go as the color comes to life.  I love that about this color.  You won’t feel like your nails on display while at work or at a restaurant but they’ll really pop when enjoying some time outdoors.  Normally I love OPI’s cremes but this one needed three coats to get a flawless finish and even then I can still see VNL from certain angles.  Not ideal!

Considering the size of orange polish drawer I expected to have more comparable colors but only a couple stepped up to the plate.  OPI Tangerine Scene is a very close cousin to Flit A Bit and if you own TS, you really don’t need this shade.  The main difference is that TS has a bit more red in its base.  I also showed FAB next to Zoya Jancyn which is a brighter, true orange hue.

Bottom line: If you like bubblegum pinks the way I do, snag a bottle of Flower-to-Flower. Catch Me In A Net is an outstanding color but if you own Zoya Charla consider it a pass.  Foil finish fans will not regret picking up Wing It!

The OPI Summer Flutter Collection officially launches in June 2010.  OPI nail polish is sold in salons and spas nationwide including chains like JC Penney Salons, Regis, Trade Secret, ULTA, etc.

Is it just me or do the names not really fit with what we’ve come to expect from OPI?  I guess I expect something more cheeky and catchy.  What do you think of the Summer Flutter colors?  Any must haves?

Disclosure: Samples of the Summer Flutter Collection were furnished to me by OPI.  For more info view my Disclosure Policy.

Wow I LOVE Flower to Flower! I’m on a bit of a pink kick and I think I’ll love that as much as I love Tropical punch!

  3. I am pretty sure that I will be buying this whole collection. It is pretty great collection. I can not wait til I can get my hands on these puppies!

  4. Lisa says:

I must have them all!!!! I am in love with Flower-to-Flower. The extra OPI collections aren’t sold in my country (we only get the main fall and spring ones and the classics) But I will try my hardest to get these ones.

  5. Zuzu says:

    Amazing colors!

  6. Jo says:

Wow! I love the whole collection :)

  7. Virginia says:

I totally thought I would be passing up this collection, but maybe not. Flower to Flower is so pretty and since I don’t own Charla, maybe I’ll pick up Catch me in your net.

  8. Aurora says:

Wing It! really caught my eye…I think I’ll have to pick it up!

  9. Karen says:

I love this collection… but too bad OPI is no longer available on etailers anymore… guess I’m going to settle with Zoya instead for these sparkles.

  10. Mariah9999 says:

Catch me in Your Net is gorgeous! Beautiful swatches too!!!

  11. Elizabeth says:

Karen, don’t consider it settling, consider it stepping UP!

  12. l0verlada says:

I think from what I’ve seen this collection is pretty unimpressive. They all look like something we have seen before or close to it.

  13. Shena says:

WOW! I will be buying al except for Flit A Bit. I can’t wait for this to come out! I am disappointed in the names. How boring.

  14. Serena says:

I like the names of this collection. I find most OPI’s have really cheesy names. I really like all the colours in this collection and I don’t have any of the dupes you mentioned.

  15. only need the green! and I mean NEED IT! I would love to see some good creamy yellows from OPI because the banana bandana or whatever applies so thin! :(

  16. Jamie says:

I am definitely going to get CMiYN and WI — I would probably have bought all four before they made the etailers stop selling them at the lower price.

  17. Courtney says:

I loove the ‘Catch Me In Your Net’ shade!

I live in the Cleveland area (west side) as well…where did you buy these polishes from?! :)

  18. Chaosbutterfly says:

The names are kind of lame…I love OPI’s silly and corny puns, and I’m bummed that there are none in this collection.

But I love Flower to Flower. It’s such a pretty, girly shade of pink, and I’m a total sucker for the sprinkled sugar look.

  19. Rachel says:

These are so pretty! I think I will get the mini-pack if I can find it. Your nails look amazing as usual!

  20. Stephanie says:

I think I’ll probably pick up Wing It! I was thinking the same thing about the names, but I guess the butterfly-themed ones are kind of cute. Especially “Flit A Bit.”

  21. Stef says:

These are pretty, but I just can’t bring myself to paint three coats of polish on my nails. If it’s not opaque in two coats, it’s not for me.

  22. Paige says:

I absolutley love the whole collection!
    Ther’e gorgeous.
Definatley going to be buying these <3
    Thanks for the great swatches!
    Paige xoxo

  23. Victoria says:

i think ill get catch me in your net! =D ’cause i like those colors

  24. Macca says:

OMG!!!! I’m a green freak like you and I loooove CMIYN. I was giong to buy Zoya but now I’m not so sure…maybe I’ll buy this whole collection.
Thank you for your amazing photos.
P.S. I’m a newbie but you really cought me in your net!!! ;-)

  25. nihrida says:

Isn’t it funny how Zoya and OPI came out with the ”same” nail polish for summer. XD It’s still a beautiful shade, I have to admit.

  26. Debbie says:

Weirdly the one that has leapt out at me is the orange cream, not something I would usually consider! Maybe its because we have just had 3 days of blazing sunshine and temps about 10 degrees higher than the norm here in the UK! I think as usual I’ll search out a Barry M or cheapy dupe to see if it works and then consider a more expensive polish in a similar hue!

  27. Emelie says:

This whole collection surprised me in a good way. I thought I’d only like one or two but I actually like them all.

  28. Chrissy says:

I need to have them – ALL!!!!

  29. Jen says:

Why is everyone saying etailers wont be selling OPI anymore?

    • Jamie says:

As I understand it, OPI sued one of the etailers, Transdesign, for copyright infringement because Transdesign was not an authorized dealer. Transdesign is (as of this writing, at least) clearing out its existing stocks, but presumably getting in nothing new, and several other popular etailers that previously sold OPI at the kind of prices that made it possible to buy, say, a dozen bottles (the way we np fanatics do!) are no longer selling that brand at all.

  30. Altea says:

I haven’t bought Zoya Charla yet and I was surely going to.
Is there any difference in the formula that should make me prefer one of the two?

  31. Jackie S. says:

I really like them all, nice job OPI!

  32. Samantha says:

While I like them all, I think I’ll pass on Catch Me In Your Net. (I’ve got Charla already.) But I’ll try for the other three since I don’t think I have anything in my Stash similar to those.

  33. Nien says:

    I love the ‘Flower-to-Flower’!

  34. Sandy says:

I love this entire collection even though I’m not much of an organge person because I don’t think it looks good on me because I am so pale.

  35. Hannah says:

What’s with all these polishes needing three coats? Two used to be fine!

  36. Andrea says:

These are very pretty, but I think I’m only gonna pick up Catch Me In Your Net. I don’t already have Zoya Charla (although, I wanted to purchase it), so I’m gonna buy CMIYN instead because I prefer OPI’s brush. I’m happy!

  37. Caitlin G. says:

I thought these looked BLAH just in the bottle, but they are really pretty swatched.
    :)
Do you know if there will me a mini set available?
Because your first pic looks like small bottles.
    Thanks you!

  38. Kerri says:

:D Found these lovelies here in Canada already! I’m in Vancouver, and found them at Sets in the Metrotown Mall. Was very surprised but happy to see them! I had to pick up ‘Catch Me In Your Net’ anyway, even though I have Charla… But I also got ‘Wing It’, and I’m looking forward to trying it.

  39. Rainbow says:

I love Catch Me in Your Net. Really sucks that no one will sell OPI online though, ULTA is an hour’s drive! Maybe I’ll buy the Zoya version instead since i’ve never tried their polishes..

  40. NailPolishFan says:

I love Catch Me In Your Net. It’s a beautiful color. They sell some OPI polishes on Amazon.

  41. Lynette says:

I would absolutely have to pass on this entire collection.
I did love the foil of CMINYN- the greenish blue hue was to die for and I could picture it in sunslight being beautiful.
However, a collection where 3 coats is needed and VNL STILL appears, sorry, sounds like alot of polish and time..
I will not jump the gun- I always give every color a try in person at my handy dandy ULTA store when new shades are released. I will definetly check them out in real life and see if I like them any better.

  42. Stephanie says:

How does Catch Me In Your Net compare to OPI Reflecting Pool?

  43. amy says:

Catch Me in Your Net and Flower to Flower are my two favourites and a must have for me.

  44. Shena says:

Does anyone know the exact date these will be released? Im dying to get my hands on them!

  45. [...] OPI Summer Flutter Collection Swatches are here! – All Laquered Up [...]

  46. Mish says:

I seriously would love to have Catch Me In Your Net! ;; If only they sold other colors besides reddish ones D:

  47. Sharon M says:

I picked up Flower to Flower (also What’s With the Cattitude from the Shrek collection) yesterday, so it’s out now — although, seeing these swatches, I’m tempted to go back and get Catch Me In Your Net too. Flower to Flower is on my nails now, just one coat and I’ll be adding more coats shortly. Very pretty. :)

  48. Michelle says:

I only liked Catch me in Your Net on promopics but since I own Charla that isn’t worth buying haha. Great swatches!

  49. Andrea says:

Hi, can anyone please share how Wing It! compares to the two Zoya Sparkles, Alegra and Gilda?

  50. Hmm. I am not a fan of glittery polishes, so I am not loving these.
