Nubar 2010 10th Anniversary Color Swatches, Review and Comparison

nubar-2010-bottle To celebrate 10 years of creating beautiful 3-Free polishes, Nubar has released a special edition color called Nubar 2010.  A clear polish filled with iridescent flake glitter, this lacquer will make those of you who have yet to hunt down Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure very very happy.

Not only does Nubar continually put out collection after collection of gorgeous colors, they have some of the best treatment products on the market.  Their Foundation Base Coat has achieved “holy grail” status in my book and the Diamont top coat is one of the few quick drys in my arsenal that isn’t thick or tricky to apply.  In my opinion, that’s more than enough reason to celebrate their 10th Anniversary in style.  And Nubar 2010 has plenty of style.  Check it out after the jump!

As I mentioned above, Nubar 2010 is a glitter polish that is best appreciated layered over another color.  On its own, you just don’t get the same fire out of the flakes.  Like Hidden Treasure, the flakes of glitter look like fish scales in the bottle and while they flash different colors, the main hue that comes through is burning embers copper.  Inspired by Barielle Falling Star, I chose to show Nubar 2010 over Illamasqua Force from the Body Electrics Collection.

I think what really sets Nubar 2010 apart from Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure is the density of the glitter.  Nubar 2010 is packed with flakes so you end up getting more value from it than the SH since you only need one coat to get the same looks as two coats of Hidden Treasure.  Shown over Orly Wandering Vine.

Nubar’s Nubar 2010 nail lacquer is available now at ByNubar.com. Nubar nail polishes retail for $7.49/ea and they offer free shipping on orders over $75.  While you’re at the Nubar site, be sure to sign up for their newsletter to be notified of any upcoming promotions.

So between Nubar 2010 and Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure, which do you prefer?  Do you intend to pick up Nubar 2010?  Are you a flakie fan?

wow they look the same! ive never tried the flake nail polish i just might now!

  2. Millie says:

I like the flakie look, but I much prefer blue/green/purple than the warmer toned HT or the Nubar, which is probably a good thing as these will never come to Australia.

  3. aaminahs mom says:

great post and both flakes are about the same price really….so if you can’t get the ht well heres 2010 and it’ll last a bit longer too thanks for that tidbit.

  4. Kimberly says:

I have been seeing this Nubar around the blogs over the past few weeks. I’d get it even though I rightfully stocked up on the elusive HT.

With a resounding ‘yes’, I do love flakies.

  5. Ollie says:

I’m tired of trying to hunt down HT. Having no luck. I’ll just get Nubar 2010 instead. Saves me a lot of headache. :)

  6. lola says:

I love this polish! Reminds me of the Nfu Oh. I am totally getting this. And the Nubar is actually cheaper and is a little fuller!

  7. Elizabeth says:

I LOVE flakies! I have hidden treasure, but the addict in me wants Nubar 2010 too.

  8. Ice Queen says:

I own Hidden Treasure and love it. Yes, I would also like to get Nubar 2010. I know that they are extremely similar but I am a greedy piggy and want both. lol

  9. Jamie says:

I definitely need to get this one, though I don’t usually go for special effects topcoats. And I really like the Nubar colors, too — I just got a suite of gray shades from their Fortress collection.

  10. lissette says:

I am so upset! I had my hands on a bottle of SH hidden treasure but, I ended up leaving it behind. I kind of regret doing that. But one question I do have is which one do you prefer?

  11. Tara Melissa says:

They do look the same! I think I might have to get this. I’ve also been looking for a great base-coat (I have a Sally Hansen one but I don’t think it cuts it), so I might look into the Foundation Base Coat as well. It’s actually on sale!

  12. Sarah says:

I have been eyeing Hidden Treasure and can’t find it anywhere! Nice to know there is another really similar option. :)

  13. Andrea says:

Ohh! I had been looking for Hidden Treasure for weeks, stalking Walgreens and CVS like a madwoman. I was lucky enough to have my mom pick up the last bottle from the display for me. I actually just did my nails today, and I have a coat of Hidden Treasure over China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise. Maybe it’s how I’m applying it, but I feel like I get really good coverage with lots of flakies with only one coat. Hmm, either way, both are gorgeous and I’m lucky to have a mom that understands my love for nail polish :)

  14. JoAnn says:

My 2 year old son “bought” me four bottles of the SH Complete for mother’s day, and one of them was Hidden Treasure. I must say that I loved it, but I will probably not wear it often due to how difficult it was to take off! The flakes seemed even more difficult than glitter (which is already a real pain) and I used straight acetone!

  15. Megan says:

You really can’t tell the difference. I think the only difference is price – I paid $6.50 for Hidden Treasure at WalMart, so I didn’t have to pay shipping. However, Nubar does have some awesome colors!

  16. Souci says:

Is it possible that the flecks in the Nubar are smaller than those in the Sally Hansen? I tried looking for the Sally one! No luck yet!

  17. Jackie S. says:

There was another post of this same comparison done by either Nihrida or Scrangie, and the results were very similar.

I have HT and love it, anyone with either of these would be very happy!

  18. trinity says:

thanks!!! i’ve been looking for ‘hidden treasure’ since your post and haven’t been able to find it!

just ordered this one, though the shipping cost is steep! too bad i don’t need $75 worth of stuff right now.

  19. Debbie says:

No chance to get either Nubar or SH version of this so bought the GOSH Rainbow equivalent from Superdrug last week for

  20. Debbie says:

Hey just noticed – on the link to Illamasqua Force you are only showing the promo picks – so I assume you now have the polishes?! Is this a review we can be looking forward to soon – dying to see prism on your nails!!

    • All Lacquered Up says:

I was waiting for my photo editing software to be installed in my new laptop but now that it is, expect reviews soon. I’m hoping for early next week.

  21. Ann says:

I found Hidden Treasures last week floating around by itself on the Wal-Mart shelves, and I love it! I could never find any of the opal-type finishes companies put out and got this one as a substitute. I apply mine a little thick to get the density where I want it. I use it to kick up a French manicure or nude-colored polish.

  22. Serena says:

I just purchased Hidden Treasure and I have to disagree about the coverage. One coat provided more coverage for me than 2 coats of Nubar 2010 for you. I’m wearing HT over Jade is the New Black and it looks pretty neat. =)

    • Heather says:

Yeah, I agree. My two coats of HT provided much more coverage than ALU’s did. Mine completely coats the nail in flakies…

  23. Denise says:

I got my HT at Walgreens (along with Sea and Be Seen, Iced Coffee, Ring My Shell and Lagoon and a backup HT)and really love it, got good coverage and won’t be buying Nubar. I layered HT over Iced Coffee – yum! I didn’t have a hard time removing it, but I did use a scrubby tub. I’m a bit tired of removing with cotton and remover because it’s so slow. Maybe I’ll try Zoya’s remover, sounds like everyone that’s tried it has an easier time of removal.

  24. Tuxie says:

I finally got my Hidden Treasure today ! Wasn’t even on the lookout, I’d kind of given up on it then at Walmart today it was just sitting there on display! The flake effect is so great! I have it on already, over top of Orly Charged Up and Im a happy camper. :)

  25. Taia says:

Is hidden treasure available in Canada?

  26. Riley says:

Living in the Minneapolis (MN) area, I have been scouring CVS and Walgreens like a crazy person for the past month with no success finding HT. I will definitely be buying Nubar’s version. But being the hoarding little nail fetishist that I am, I will not quit until I have Hidden Treasure! Has any one in MN had any luck finding it? Or an unused bottle I could buy from them?

  27. nel says:

    hated it

  28. NailPolishFan says:

I’ve really never heard of Nubar nail polish befor.Where can I find it and purchase it?

  29. Spiralseawind says:

A friend and I found HT at a local Walgreens when we had all but given up and were going to order from Nfu Oh’s Victorian Series. Got the only 2 bottles in the store! I also have to say that I disagree with the assessment that the HT has fewer sparkles.

  30. Sandi says:

I wonder if there isn’t some variance from bottle to bottle on the HT? I’m getting better coverage than either of those comparison photos with just one coat.

  31. Rachel says:

Hey Michelle! Do you happen to know offhand any store/salon in the Cleve (west or east) that sells the Nubar brand? The store locator on their website has been under construction for weeks now, and I just can’t bear to spend $12 on shipping. :(

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Hi Rachel! I’ve never seen Nubar sold in a store anywhere. You could try emailing the company to see if it’s carried anywhere in the CLE but I would guess not which makes me a sad clown. :(

      • rachelturk says:

Bummer!! I think I might try scouring some neighborhood drugstores to see if I can find a bottle of Hidden Treasure first-if no luck, there’s a bottle of 2010 on eBay right now that I may just have to get!

  32. live4fashion says:

Ugh so bummed. I have not had any luck finding HT and was psyched to see this Nubar polish but shipping is outrageous! The search continues I guess. :\

  33. Suzie says:

Just got my hands on nubar 2010 today! For any ladies in the uk looking to get this go to ebay, got it for

  34. Jenn says:

found it on ebay, ill be talking my daddy into buying it for me ;)

  35. lciaravi says:

Going to say I prefer the Nubar 2010..it’s awesome. Wearing it today over 3 coats of Orly Lemonade. Thanks for the very helpful review, as always (-:

I can never find the SH Hidden Treasures anywhere. Since I know Nubar is a good brand I am going that route. So frustrating to see good SH’s and then never be able to get them. The drugstores/Walmart etc are always picked over immediately because we have so little shopping in the 100 mile radius of where I live.
