Put An Island In Your Life and Some Color On Your Nails

pib-perrys-monument Greetings from South Bass Island, home of The Beer Barrel, the world’s longest bar, and Perry’s Monument, a tribute to Commodore Perry who lead the forces to a victory in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812. I’m here for Memorial Day weekend with the boyfriend and my parents to enjoy the holiday and celebrate my birthday.

Put In Bay, the village on South Bass Island, has been dubbed the “Key West of Lake Erie.” It’s a big party destination with a ridiculous number of bars considering the small size of the island (approx. 4 sq miles). The thing is, there’s so much more to do here besides drink and this weekend I explored one of the more relaxing attractions the island has to offer, the Isola Day Spa.

Ginger + Liz Got My Groove Back Swatch, Comparison & Review

By on May 25, 2010
in Ginger + Liz, Gold with 42 Comments
ginger-+-liz-got-my-groove-back-bottle Foil metallic lovers, I’ve got another bottle of hotness for you.  Ginger + Liz have been hinting via Twitter about “sisters’ for their hit shade Swagger and got my first peek at them on my recent trip to NYC.

One of the things I find interesting about the G+L line is that all their polish names have a back story and both of Swagger’s sisters are named after special people in G+L’s lives.  Got My Groove Back is triplet number two in what I’m calling G+L’s metallic foil series and it’s a beautiful champagne gold.

Triplet number three, Tuck Me In, is a sparkling silver but apparently she’s the cranky sibling since she isn’t ready for her debut.  I saw the actual color in NYC and it’s stunning but the formula is currently being tweaked.

Check out my full review and swatches of Got My Groove Back after the jump!

strangebeautiful-anthropologie-exclusive-duos As I mentioned in recapping my trip to The Makeup Show NYC, I had the chance to meet StrangeBeautiful founder Jane Schub while in town.  Jane is an interesting and thoughtful creature who brings her artistic background and unique eye for color to the world of nail polish.

Finding the beauty in something like a squashed bug or the veining in a piece of cheese is what sets Jane’s collections apart and now she’s bringing her creations to the masses on a more accessible scale by partnering with Anthropologie.  In exclusive packaging designed just for Anthropologie, Jane has paired up a selection of her existing shades into duos.

OPI Summer Flutter Collection Swatches & Review

in Blue, OPI, Orange, Pink, Summer 2010 with 76 Comments
opi-summer-flutter-collection-2010-bottles OPI’s butterfly themed Summer Flutter collection is their second summer release.  For some reason thinking about flutterbys, as I like to call them, causes that ridiculous Butterfly song from Crazy Town to pop into my head.  Shoot me now, ha!

I actually started looking at pics of butterflies online to get something sweeter in mind as I played with the polishes.  That was especially necessary as I only have seen Monarchs in my neck of the woods. Nothing nearly as colorful as this collection.  With two foil sparklers, a shimmer flecked pink and a creamy orange, the Summer Flutter collection is perfect for those of you on creme overload.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar Swatches and Review

obsessive-compulsive-cosmetics-lip-tar For over a year now I’ve been hearing nothing but raves for these mythical tubes of lip color goodness called Lip Tars.  The cult brand Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics was put on the map thanks to these unique lip products that apply like a gloss, look like a lipstick and wear like a stain.

On a day to day basis I’m not a heavy makeup wearer.  I rarely wear foundation, I’m not a skilled shadow blender and the concept of contouring is beyond me so my everyday essentials consist of three products; eyeliner, mascara and a lippie of some form.

Lately I’ve been on a major lipstick/stain kick as glosses have become somewhat passé.  The thing I love about a gloss though is the ease of application, that’s why Lip Tar is on the road to becoming my new BFF.
