Sally Hansen Midnight in NY and Hidden Treasure

sally hansen complete salon manicure midnight ny hidden treasure bottle Last September during NYFW, Sally Hansen unveiled their new Complete Salon Manicure line and the Tracy Reese for Sally Hansen Spring 2010 Runway Collection.  Two of the shades, Midnight in NY and Hidden Treasure were layered to create the nail look for the show.

I’ve already beyond raved over the Complete Salon Manicure formula when I wore it during my NYFW NOTD Challenge so I’ll spare you my gushing but wonky brush or not, this polish wears like iron.  And the combination of Midnight in NY and Hidden Treasure is not only gorgeous, it resembles a certain hard-to-find polish that many of you hunted for last fall.  See what I’m talking about after the jump!

Midnight in NY is a hidden treasure all its own.  This pure black lacquer is packed with multi-colored micro-glitter that is so subtle it doesn’t really translate on camera.  In person, the glimmer is much more apparent and keeps the polish from being just another boring black creme.  I photographed it under artificial sunlight to show off its understated glamour.  My only complaint is the opacity.  The formula glides on perfectly but it took three coats to cover any bald spots created by the brush.

Adding a layer of Hidden Treasure turns this look into a full on glitter party.  In the bottle Hidden Treasure looks like fish scales and reflecting a rainbow of colors in the sunlight but over Midnight in NY it creates a burning embers effect.  The multi-sized, irregularly shaped particles take on a coppery hue that reminds me of China Glaze Fortune Teller, the sellout hit from last Halloween.  I only used one coat of Hidden Treasure here but with a second coat it becomes a perfect Fortune Teller substitute.

Bottom line: Hidden Treasure is the true star and gorgeous for layering. I threw it over some other colors on a nail art wheel and it’s ridiculous over purple and over royal blue it’s reminiscent of Barielle Falling Star. Midnight in NY’s shimmer is very pretty but doesn’t get it to “must have” territory for me.

The Tracy Reese for Sally Hansen Spring 2010 Runway color collection is limited edition and available now at drugstores nationwide. Tip: I’ve had great luck finding the Tracy Reese collections at Bed Bath & Beyond stores with expanded beauty sections.

Has anyone spotted this collection at their local drugstore/mass retailer?  What do you think of these colors?  Does the combo remind you of Fortune Teller or is it just me?

Those are great colors! They aren’t available around here (in Wisconsin) yet. I gotta say though, I just used Sally Hansen for the first time, and I LOVE the brush! It really eliminated alot of the polish on my cuticles issues for me! I completely agree on the opacity of some of the colors though!

  2. virginia says:

I haven’t checked for these at the drugstore but I think I need them both! I’ve been looking for a nice black with something special and this looks like a good one!

  3. Lauren says:

Hmm, layered this looks like a pretty close dupe for the limited edition Sephora by OPI color 212, just minus the silver sparkles.

  4. Tiffanie says:

ohhh i’m so excited! i’ve been hunting for this polish at my local walgreens since the original post. there is no bb&b with a beauty department in my area (milwaukee, wi). if anyone has a hot tip on where to find these polishes please share. these are a MUST have!

  5. That color is simply stunning – I MUST get my hands on a bottle!! :)

  6. Lisa says:

I have fallen in love with this line of nail polish. I hope I can get my hands on Hidden Treasure. Thanks for the tip. It’s always impossible to find the Tracy Reese collections in my area. I’m totally going to BB&B this weekend and keeping my fingers crossed that they’ll have it.

  7. Sylvia says:

    WoW! Must have!

  8. Melanie says:

    What htf does it resemble?

  9. Krystal says:

Wow! Love the combo! It DOES kinda look like Fortune Teller, but less chunky. :) I have Black Platinum from the collection, and it was a bear to get opaque. A four-coater, but once it’s on, it looks amazing.

  10. Meika says:

Hmmmm… I know my local Walgreen’s has midnight in NY but I haven’t seen hidden treasure yet.

  11. Tara Melissa says:

I need that second color! BedBathandBeyond.com doesn’t seem to have it and neither does Drugstore.com – if someone spots it anywhere online, they should let someone know =)

  12. WC says:

Midnight in NY is really pretty, but i dont wear dark polishes. though if i can find hidden treasure i probally will buy it.
Personally i perfer the old salon manicure bottles, they looked fancier and more high end than the new bottles to me

  13. Niki says:

Oh wow! LOVE this combo. I’ve seen Midnight in NY but NOT Hidden Treasure in my drugstores – mostly Walgreen’s seems to carry an extended display of these. I will be on the hunt for Hidden Treasure!

  14. Eyelining says:

I NEED Hidden Treasure! I have been searching for Fortune Teller for ever and cannot find it for love nor money. I bet HT never comes to the UK though :’( x

  15. Amie says:

Ohhh that glitter flake top coat really looks like GOSH’s Rainbow, so if any Uk-er wants one, head to superdrug!
    http://zoffe.blogspot.com/2010/01/potd-gosh-rainbow-nailpolish.html
One of my favorite polishes ever

  16. Debbie says:

Having a huge cream love in at the moment – pastel creams too, which is seriously weird for me, so these aren’t must have’s right now but as I only got into taupe in January and pastels in April am guessing by June I will be desperate for these! Love Hidden Treasure and do like the layering idea although pretty certain that we don’t get these in the UK. Must email Sally Hansen UK to see if we are ever going to get them as I have seen several I like.

  17. Both are so pretty! Would love to get my hands on hidden treasure. I haven’t seen them in my DS yet :)

  18. yavanna says:

it’s not the same look as china glaze fortune teller, since that one had a black jelly base with orange glitter, both small normal glitter and bigger, hexagon shaped glitter pieces.

the sally hansen hidden treasure is much prettier. first, it’s glowing copper-red and not straight orange and second, those little flakies (like in some nfu.oh polishes or opi merry midnight) are much cooler than “normal” glitter.

besides, one topcoat of hidden treasure is surely easier to remove than 2-3 coats of CG fortune teller. I spent like an hour to get it off after last halloween. aaand it needed a thick topcoat because of all the bumpy glitter.

so thumbs up for sally hansen ;)

  19. tPFmariah9999 says:

They both look great on you but wouldn’t be must haves for me. I completely agree that the duo looks like Fortune Teller! If I didn’t have Fortune Teller I would definitely buy them to recreate the look!

  20. Hidden Treasure is a must have for me!!! I’ve found the Tracy Reese for Sally Hansen polishes at Harmon drugstores, if that helps anyone!

  21. Sandy says:

I love this and now will be on the hunt (ugh) for Hidden Treasure! Just finding the polish is a Treasure Hunt! Tracy Reese nail collections from Spring 2008 are just now in drugstores here in Houston and I thought we had every store imaginable! I was hoping that Sally Hansen would do several “effects” instead of just this one but if I locate it, I’ll let you know!

  22. Jackie S. says:

    WOW! Love the fish scales!
I will go to my local (LA, California) BB&B today, I’ll let you know what I find!

  23. KarenD says:

I picked up Midnight in NY recently (it was in the regular shelf display at a Meijer store here in Michigan), but haven’t seen any sign of Hidden Treasure, which is making me sad because I really, really want it.

  24. Sky says:

I have Fortune Teller. While FT is not EXACTLY like this combo, it is a very nice substitute. Thanks for swatching! I bet Hidden Treasure looks really cool over purple and blue as you stated.

  25. Ali says:

I just picked Midnight in NY up, at Walgreens. No sign of Hidden Treasure though. I checked two WG and one CVS. Is it even out yet? I’m guessing this one was sent special to you? Either way, I love it! The hunt for MT begins!

  26. Katie says:

Same as most. We have Midnight in NY but no Hidden Treasure.

  27. Valentine says:

I want both of these, but I especially want Hidden Treasure! I’ve been waiting for it to come out, so I’ll totally have to it up my local drugstores!

  28. Nail Polish Fan says:

I seen the nail polish brand at Wal-Mart, but I have not seen these two particular colors yet and I’ve been looking. I really like the combo of the two together.

  29. Anna says:

I wonder what does everyone use for a base with Sally Hanson? I bought this polish in a pale gray and after a day or so it just peels off. Reminds me of that polish when your a kid. Is there a secret? The only polish that stays on my nails is OPI. I was hoping not to spend $9 on polish but will use what works. Please help…..

  30. Charlotte Glass says:

My local Target had Midnight in NY and they are supposed to get Hidden Treasue sometime soon. But I live in MS so we are always last to get everything. I may breakdown and find it online.

and for Anna I use Orly base coat and won’t chip top coat. My friends have wonderful things to say about Bonder by Orly but I haven’t tried it yet.You can find it all at Sally’s.

  31. Anna says:

I prefer this one to fortune teller. Though i’m fairly saturated when it comes to polishes atm, ordered a bunch from transdesign fairly recently. Oh the beauty :)

  32. Kareberry says:

Any pics of Hidden Treasure over the other colors you threw it over?

  33. Ariana says:

Those polishes are beautiful…I’ve seen the most of the collection at CVS and Stop n Shop, in New York and here in Massachusetts, also. Hidden Treasure looks like a great mulitpurpose nail color =]

  34. Akashagermaine says:

I have been looking for Hidden Treasure EVERYWHERE and cannot find it. Has anyone actually found a bottle? I NEED this polish!!!! Help!

  35. Tara Melissa says:

I actually found Midnight in NY at my local Rite Aid…I’ll ask if Hidden Treasure will come in there or at CVS. Fingers crossed!

  36. morgan2004 says:

I second the orly bonder. A friend told me about it and I swear it’s the best base ever. Also “Sticky” by CND is really good but I’ll stick with the Orly.

  37. Breanna says:

I can’t find Hidden Treasure either. It’s not even on the Sally Hansen website, and I’m getting a little suspicious that it hasn’t actually been released yet. At least that’s what I’m hoping.

    • nikki says:

I checked the Sally Hansen website too and I couldn’t find a thing! They have Midnight In NY but not Hidden Treasure. =( so bummed

      • All Lacquered Up says:

The SH site isn’t updated with seasonal collection colors. They only show the core lineup online. It’s up to each store manager to order the seasonal colors so if you want to see Hidden Treasure come to your local drugstore, bug the manager.

  38. Meghan says:

I have midnight in New York!! I need to hunt for hidden treasure (lulz), it’s a flakie!!!

  39. Amanda says:

Has anyone seen the seasonal Sally Hansen’s in the Denver metro? I’ve just about convinced myself that they’re a hoax.

  40. Tuxie says:

I got Midnight in NY @ a Target in southern California, but they didn’t have Hidden Treasure. Im keeping my eyes peeled though because the combo of the two is fab.

  41. jbuchanan00 says:

i love i have gray by gray and i want these two also//

  42. Mindy says:

Still no sign of Hidden Treasure… I have been looking in every store I enter since I saw this post :/ I might be able to find a dupe in Nfu oh but that are so expensive.

    • Dorina says:

Just keep looking! I found Hidden Treasure today. I’m in southern CA (Orange County), and I squealed when I saw the display in Walgreens. It was in the front with the rest of the Tracy Reese collection (minus Midnight in New York, which is displayed with the core colors). The display also had a bunch of sheer shimmery colors with beach/ocean-themed names; in total, I got 11 colors and they’re all sooo pretty!

      • Najelle says:

HI =D i was wondering where in OC did u find SH’s hidden treasure? i’m in the north oc area and have looked in 8 diff places so far, and haven’t found it yet. please help… =D thanks in advance for your time.
        -najelle

  43. Jasmine says:

I’m loving this new line of polish from Sally Hansen!

  44. bondno9girl says:

I found this today at my walgreens. I got hidden treasure, sea and be seen, and silver lining. Three walgreen stores wee already sold out of almost all the colors, including hidden treasure. The 4th store was the cham and had all the colors. I had already gotten midnight in ny since it is part of the nomal line. Lagoon looked just like the new Revlon ocean color that is part of their scented summer collection and there was a light blue spakly colo that looked like the opi breathe lung cancer color so I didn’t get those. Happy hunting!

  45. Jen Duffy says:

Hidden Treasure et al., have made their way to Central Illinois. I went to 4 different drugstores to find it. Look on the endcaps for special displays, they are not in with the other colors. I think that part of the problem is that the display 1.is a limited edition, and 2. the display only holds two of each shade.

  46. So if I want Hidden Treasure I have to make a royal pest of myself and have a manager special order it for me?

…screw that, I’ll just go with Nfu Oh. Yes, it costs more – but I don’t have to get my local retailers annoyed at me.

BTW, if anyone is jonesing hard for Midnight in NY I have seen that at several drugstores (Walgreen’s, Rite Aid) near me. Contact me – especially if you can get your hands on Hidden Treasure – and we’ll arrange a trade.

  47. cocofiere says:

I found Hidden Treasure in Walgreens in Chicago yesterday. I’ve been bugging them about when they were getting the new SH display and they finally put them out a couple of days ago. There are only 2 slots per display per color. I went to another Walgreens and their two HT’s were already gone. I haven’t checked CVS or Target yet but Walgreens typically put out tons of cosmetic/nail displays so if you’re near one, keep bugging them. Good luck!

  48. Zemlet says:

Walgreens was where I found it as well. I have been stalking all the local drug stores like a madwoman ever since this post. I finally found Hidden Treasure and some of the other spring Tracy Reese shades I hadn’t seen anywhere else.

  49. Breanna says:

SUCCESS!!! I also found my bottle of Hidden Treasure at my local Walgreens (in Oakmont PA, for those of you in the Pittsburgh area). There were only 2 bottles left, and I snatched one up at lightning speed. I also grabbed Midnight in NYC while I was there because they had a buy 1 get one half off special on Sally Hansen. SCORE!!!

  50. Tiffanie says:

I finally found Hidden Treasure as well… at a random Walgreens in Milwaukee, WI on an end cap in the Cosmetics Dept. I got the last bottle. As people have described it is a special display with spring colors – two bottles per color. Hidden Treasure is on the right end of the display when you’re standing in front of it. The Walgreens I got at it the display was on the bottom shelf, I almost missed it. Good luck ladies!!!

  51. Tiffany says:

I never would’ve went for Hidden Treasures if I’d’ve just seen it in the store…but now I HAVE to have it since it looks soooo different than I would have imagined! I’ve probably passed it up a million times. Thanks!

  52. Nicole says:

Has anyone been able to find Hidden Treasure? I don’t even know where to look, and the Sally Hansen website isn’t showing it as part of the line. Is it gone?

    • Lina says:

I’ve been having the same problem. I live in Canada, though, so maybe that’s why? It’s weird, though, because all the other colours are there. Just this one is missing.

  53. carrie says:

It’s definitely still around! I previously checked Ulta, Target(s) and CVS and none had it. Then I finally got the idea to check Walgreens and hit up the one closest to me and grabbed the last bottle. How it’s set up at my Walgreens is that it’s not displayed on the wall with the other cosmetics, and it won’t be listed as a color with their core colors. You have to hunt down the separate cardboard/plastic display that they set down on a table.

  54. Brittany Blai says:

I may be late in the game but I wanted to share my success!

I traveled 30 minutes away from my city to a smaller town and found TWO bottles at the wal-mart there. yes I bought both! I’m going to do my nails now! I’m thinking I’ll put it over Suzi Says Feng Shui!!

  55. Frenchfille says:

Check ebay – both are on there!

  56. Morgie P says:

After reading this and coveting those awesome nails, I went on a mission to find Hidden Treasure. After weeks of going to as many drugstores as humanly possible, I finally found ONE bottle in this dinky, hole-in-the-wall Shoppers Drug Mart in Toronto. It was kinda just smushed in with the other pale colours. I was ecstatic. Clearly the colour is aptly named.

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Glad you finally found but you aren’t kidding, it really is a Hidden Treasure.

  57. Enid P says:

Just like Morgie P , I was on a mission trying to find this nail polish and after weeks of looking for it in all drug stores I finally found it 2 days ago in a Rite aide right around the corner from my house. I was so happy I couldn’t take the excitement all by my self I had to tell the lady that was next to me why I was so ecstatic about. lol. It”s all it says to be and more. LOve it, love it, love it. It was a Hidden Treasure after all.

  58. Jenn says:

when this first came out, my dad went on a mission to find it for me. then nubar 2010 came out, he tried getting that for me to. recently, he confessed to buying it for me on ebay. i really love my dad. <3

  59. TLM says:

Hasn’t anyone else had the trouble I’ve had with SH Complete Manicure’s brushes from HELL?? I had to return the two I bought, and struggled to do a pedi on a friend of mine using SH Insta-Dri because every single time the redesigned brush was withdrawn from the bottle, it was so overloaded with polish it had to be “bled off” for about 10 seconds. Talk about exhausting, plus I ruined a towel of hers when I hadn’t taken the requisite 10 seconds of wiping the brush on the bottle opening, maybe just did 5 seconds, and a giant drip of polish rolled down the brush. I don’t know who this “redesign” is good for. I thought I was losing my mind when I first bought 2 bottles. If there’s a special way to use these brushes, I guess I’m just not smart enough to figure it out. I’ve only been buying polish and manicuring my nails for about 32 years. I really used to be a fan of SH until they came out with this new dumb brush.
