Go Green Week – Sinful Mint Apple

sinful mint apple nail polish bottle It’s Go Green Week on ALU! In celebration of Earth Day on Thursday, April 22nd I’m reviewing some of the great green polishes from this season that I haven’t yet shared. Included with the reviews are tips on how you can “green” your manicure routine.

I never seem to have luck when it comes to finding the LE colors from Sinful.  I don’t know if it’s because my local drugstores don’t typically order them or whether they sell out in a flash.  Either way, when my friend who lives WAY out east from me said that she spotted a whole mess of new Sinful greens for spring I pretty much figured I’d never see them.

So you can imagine my excitement a couple months ago when the clerk at my Walgreens told me they had some green Sinfuls behind the counter that they hadn’t put out yet.  Mint Apple was among those gorgeous green gems and in the sea of mint green polishes we’ve been seeing, this cheese stands alone.  Check it out!

Sinful Colors nail polishes truly are the hidden gems of the drugstore polish world.  Usually carried under the beauty counter at Walgreens, they are easily overlooked but to do so is a mistake.  For the price you really can’t beat the diversity of the color range and the quality of the polish.  Sinfuls just wear so well on me.  You’re looking at Day 3 of Mint Apple below and there isn’t a sign of wear to be found.  The formula is a little thin and watery so I end up using three coats with most of their lacquers but considering that a lot of salon brands apply the same way anymore, I can’t complain.

Mint Apple stands apart from the other mint green polishes in that it really isn’t that pastel or minty.  To me it’s more tropical falling somewhere between turquoise and aqua.  It would actually fit very well with Essie’s Resort collection.  The silver shimmer just adds to its allure.  It adds more of a sheen and twinkle than an all over shimmery effect.

Go Green Week Nail Tip – Today’s Go Green Tip comes to us courtesy of Jenna Hipp Green Celebrity Nail Stylist.  Jenna uses “green” products on herself and her celebrity clientele after experiencing formaldehyde poisoning so she suggests you become more aware of the ingredients in the products you’re using. “The average woman applies 240 products topically to her skin every week, so be aware of of what you’re using! Try and purchase from companies who source through Fair Trade and make sure skincare products are free of parabens, synthetic dyes, fillers, and petroleum.”

Sinful Colors nail polishes can be found at drugstores nationwide and retail for around $1.99 ea.

How many of you got your hands on Mint Apple? What do you think of the color? Tell us some of your favorite Sinful Colors polishes!

Disclosure: I purchased this polish at Walgreens. For more info view my Disclosure Policy.

How funny! I just found this brand at my local Walgreen’s for the first time yesterday, and I swear my first thought was if you used them or not! Now that I read this post, Im going back to take a closer look at all the colors!

  2. Sarai says:

I just bought this from Walgreens and I absolutely love it, one of my favorite colors right now. And I love the price =]

  3. I looked at this in Walgreens the other day, but didn’t get it. Regretting that now :(

  4. Julienne F says:

I thought I was the only one who knew about Sinful Colors! :o)

I just picked up mint apple last week and LOVE it. Great formula and beautiful color!

  5. LacquerMuse says:

I found this at Fred Meyer after walking five miles to visit the Dollar Tree and Sally’s. We stopped in at Fred Meyer’s on a whim, and it made the whole trip worth it. I picked up Mint Apple and Innocent. My bottle of Mint Apple was quite thick, but the color is just stunning. I wish my local Rite Aid got special colors, because I would like to buy a backup bottle. :P Love!

I love this one. I’m lucky enough to have a Walgreens and a CVS down the street from my house so I tend to frequent them before anyone has a chance to wipe out the entire collections!

  7. Nikia says:

I feel the same way about Sinful Colors! I dismissed them for so long because I’m not that good at applying cheap nail polish formulas (i.e.Pure Ice), but I went out on a limb and bought one. I couldn’t believe that after 4 days I had no chips, wear, or fade. Think I’m going to start collecting them…

  8. Dawn says:

Sinful Colors wear very well for me too and I have at least 40 colors from them. My favorites are Rich in Heart, What’s Your Name, See You Soon, Sugar Sugar, Nail Junkie, Daddy’s Girl, I Love You, Paris, Smoking Hot, Let’s Talk, All Mighty, Hot Spot, Serena & Chloe, Lying Nails, Mercury Rising, Out of This World, All About You, Show Me the Way, Call You Later, San Francisco and Mint Apple. Whew…! :)

  9. Samantha says:

I actually have this color, and in my Walgreen’s it isn’t a limited edition, but a core color. I love it, and had worn it from Super Bowl Sunday for a few days. (Forgotten to remove it, but with the color I thought it looked great on me)

I say one of my absolute faves is a color I’d bought last week — Dream On. I was actually able to get it fully opaque in four coats, which is great considering it’s a neon.

  10. Altea says:

    I’m drooling…

  11. kris says:

Is she saying that paraben, synthetic dyes, fillers and petroleum free products are better for the environment? Or am I misunderstanding the definition of green?

  12. karigold says:

I can NOT find this brand ANYWHERE…. I see some beautiful colors from them and DARN it… no luck finding anyone that carries the brand. Any online sites you can recommend?
Love this green btw… I’m not fond of pastels so this is just a tad deeper. m-m GOOD!

  13. Camila says:

I really love this color! I love green nail polishes!

  14. Jackie S. says:

Nice green can’t believe I missed this onw!

  15. Laura says:

green week has nothing to do with the color green. i love nail polishes, but trying to dress up for green week is silly and does not make sense. sigh, especially since nail polishes contribute to air pollution…

  16. Chris says:

I love Sinful Colors. Great price and great color selection. I really like Hottie as a topcoat to spruce up an old mani. And the Sinful Colors “green” I love is San Francisco. :)

  17. Takij says:

I have this color and I love it. One of my faves probably. I try not to repeat colors often but this one went from mani to pedi.

  18. Candice says:

I once used SIX coats of a Sinful Colors polish in order to get it opaque…. perhaps I’ll have to give them another try.

  19. Debbie says:

And again, another gorgeous and unusual green, how do you do it?!! My poor nails, this week hubby is away so I am running the guest house single handed and my nails are feeling the stress, they have 2 heavy duty coats of nail strengthener on them and I am slathering my hands in neutrogena hand cream every 30 seconds but they haven’t had a lick of colour on them all week. Cant wait for him to get home so I can show my nails some love!

  20. Jennifer says:

Ooh, Mint Apple looks gorgeous on you! I bought it about a month ago but haven’t gotten around to wearing it yet. I love Sinful’s glitters, they are great for layering. My two favorites are Love Nails and Hottie.

  21. Kristen says:

I have this polish and it is hands down; my favorite green polish.

I think it looks more like a sea foam green when its on rather than a mint though.

  22. Laura says:

I saw this polish at Walgreens this morning. I am going back to pick it up tomorrow. For the price the Sinful colors wear very well.

  23. Fj says:

I don’t like green nail polish. I DO like this color! Perfect for vacationing!

  24. Kaoyee says:

I was just looking at this color the other day…thinking it was a dupe for my Essie Mint Candy Apple or CG Refresh Mint, I didn’t buy it :( But now I see there are sparkles in it!! I have to go back and get it :D Today for Earth Day, I am wearing SH Extreme Wear Going Green. Many people have made positive comments on it. I think it’s the perfect shade of green for my skin tone!

  25. Danika says:

After seeing this post, I ran out to my nearest Walgreens and I scored the last bottle of this color, it is sooo pretty. I’ve liked Sinful Colors for a while now and you definitely can’t beat the price! Duane Reade has a pretty decent selection of their line as well.

  26. Melaina says:

Made a special trip to snap up Mint Apple and walked out with more than just the one, but I can’t wait to test how they work out! Any word on if their base and top coat are any good?
And, is it normal for the caps to be all goopy? I religiously open my polishes just to make sure there isn’t any pre-purchase dried paint spilling and many of the Sinfuls had the goop factor around the threads.

  27. Very cute on you, and totally true; a resort collection-esque color!

  28. Veronica says:

After reading this post, I said let me go to Walgreens to see if they have this color because I have purchased quite a few bottles of sinful polish fron there. When I got there, I notice more different displays of sinful polish now compared to the little area they always have for it. I searched for the mint apple and I found one left hiding in the back WOO HOO!! It is indeed a nice green.

  29. Stregalice says:

Saw Sinful for the first time on a vacation in Paris (they aren’t sold here in Italy) a couple of weeks ago and got only three colours. Now I’m regretting not getting more! The colour payoff is great and they apply so smoooooothly! And they even costed half the price we shell for OPIs.

  30. Melissa says:

In Canada, we don’t have Sinful Colors or Walgreens but I went across the border today from Niagra Falls and I bought Mint Apple. I haven’t tried it on my nails yet, but it looks really nice in the bottle :)
