Get The Look – Nina Dobrev in Seventeen Magazine
 A few days ago Fanatic Ally contacted me asking about Nina Dobrev’s nails in the April edition of Seventeen Magazine. Since I’m not a subscriber (I’m a little beyond Seventeen’s demo) I haven’t seen the issue but I was able to find some pics online. Needless to say, I pleasantly surprised to see a cover girl sporting GREEN nails!
The reason for Ally’s email is that in the magazine, you can clearly see that Nina’s nails were covered with chunky, random glitter yet the magazine recommended OPI Bling Dynasty to get the look. Any of you who own Bling Dynasty know that it’s a shimmering, opaque micro-glitter. So how was Nina’s look achieved? Fortunately my pal Celebrity Manicurist Elle was the woman responsible for Nina’s nail look so I gave her a ring to get the scoop. Find out what she used after the jump! |
Elle sounded surprised when I asked if she did some type of nail art on Nina’s nails. You see at the time I had only spied a small version of the above image. Thinking that Bling Dynasty was involved I assumed some sort of nail art technique was used. Luckily Elle was able to set me straight letting me know that she used China Glaze Medallion, a gold glitter peppered with randomly shaped holographic particles. She layered that over China Glaze Four Leaf Clover to create Nina’s fun nail style. I’ve shown the combo to you below with one coat of Medallion on my ring and pinkie nails and two coats on my middle finger.
I took the pic above under artificial light to show how much it alters the color of Four Leaf Clover, similar to what you see on Nina in the magazine. Below is my original swatch of Four Leaf Clover under natural light which still doesn’t show off its vibrancy.

I love the combination! I rarely ever see holographic glitter in nail polishes in the states. In Japan I bought a lot though
Is China Glaze Medallion discontinued?? Also, any suggestions for finding holographic glitter nail polishes?
China Glaze Medallion can be found at any online nail polish retailer (ie. transdesign, head2toe, etc.)
Oooh! I love this look. Seriously, I ALWAYS forget how cool layering can be! I picked up a few of Cover Girl’s glitter polishes on clearance a while back and layered them over my FLC manicure in the store. Loved the look! Thanks for the reminder

Last month’s Vogue Australia also featured a model with bright turquoise nails that were just a gorgeous pop of colour. Prompted me to order CG Custom Kicks, but I’m rather lemming some Medallion now!

I have Four Leaf Clover and some gold glitter – maybe that will be my weekend mani! I’ve got a funky wedding to go to tomorrow night and this could be a lot of fun.

I know it’s a bit late for this, but I figured I say that I just tried this combination and LOVE IT. Weird though, I only put one coat of Medallion on but it looks as dense or denser than your two coats! Maybe ’cause I shook it up a lot?? Hahaha, I dunno. Either way it is AWESOME.
I had the same result with Medallion except for some reason for me it went on so dense it looked nothing like this and you couldn’t even see the green through all the glitter. All the glitter also added way too much yellow tone to the green and made it look gross. It looks wretched! Its like a 6 year old came up and dumped craft glitter on my wet nails! I only used one coat too!
Four Leaf Clover stains your nails
I even put on a base coat but it still stained horribly bad.
When I saw this picture I thought it was China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise with Medallion. I tried it and liked it; but it just wasn’t the same. I was close though! I’ll have to try Four Leaf Clover and Medallion.
I love Nina Dobrev, she’s gorgeous! The China Glaze nail polishes look like they’d be cute to wear!
