CND Monday – Day 5 of the ALU NYFW NOTD Challenge

alu-cnd-monday-green-scene-cream-washed Welcome to CND Monday, a regular series here on ALU. Each week I’ll be sharing a new layering combination from CND Colour & Effects to show you the versatility and creativity of the line.

With the exception of my unworn bottle of MAC Studded, the new matte polish from the Riveting collection, I actually completed my NYFW NOTD Challenge this season.  I ended up getting something top secret and very special applied to my nails on Day 6 so that nixed my planned MAC mani.  I’ll tell you about soon but in the meantime let’s talk about Day 5.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the challenge I planned out my color according to the brand I’d be seeing that day.  Since CND worked on 20+ shows throughout the week, every day could have been CND day but I chose Tuesday since they were working with The Blonds that night.  The Blonds are known for their outlandish designs and over-the-top nail looks so if there was a day that green polish was in order, it was Tuesday.

I could have just thrown on a couple of coats of Green Scene and called it a day but I wanted something a bit different.  I chose to create my own version of a Jade gemstone using Cream Washed.  Check out my look after the jump!

If you missed my detailed review of the new CND Formula, Bottle and Brush check out CND Colour, Effects and Henna? for a recap.

To refresh your memory, Green Scene is a vivid straight up AstroTurf green.  It really packs a punch in terms of vibrancy and pigmentation.  If you’re looking for that ideal mid-tone green creme, look no further.

For my interpretation of Jade I wanted something a bit softer so I layered the sheer neutral, Cream Washed, over Green Scene.  Unfortunately my application skills were failing me at the crack of dawn and it came out a bit streaky.  The overall color was what I wanted by the general unevenness was a downer.  Hey, they can’t all be winners.

When I tested it at home on a nail art wheel the color was ideal so when I ran into CND’s Angi Wingle backstage I asked her for tips on how to get a more even application.  Her suggestion… dilute Cream Washed with a bit of CND Air Dry.  Making it a bit more watery or jelly-ish will help eliminate streaks without compromising the integrity of the color.

What do you think of my Jade? Have you had luck layering sheer cremes over darker colors? What are your tips for making the finish smooth and even?

I love Green Scene more than any color in my polish box right now. Come March, it will be my color. For the month. I’ll prove it on twitpic if i have too! LOL

That said, it takes me within an inch of my patience to get just two coats of polish color on my nails, let alone a base and a top, speed dry spray or drops AND some sort of effects.

*ALTHOUGH* reading your recent posts gave me a great idea!
I think for St. Pat’s I’ll attempt a Green Scene nail with MAC’s Gold Veneer tips. I guarantee nothing…

I really like that on you! It totally reminds me of a jade necklace I have. Nicely done.

  3. Helena says:

I actually quite like the unevenness…it makes your nails look like pottery!

  4. laquermanic says:

I’m going all crazy with the effects these day, and LOVE them. And pssst! I know about the top secret; my contact at CND has promised me a sneak peak and try. Real soon. *wooot*
In Norway it will be launched on the 5th of May.

Bright green cream could be growing on me – provided it doesnt make your hands look bright red! Had always thought grey would like vile til I tried the Barry M one you reviewed and am hooked on that so maybe should give the green creams a whirl!

    Hi Michelle:

I love that color, “Green Scene,” ti look gorgeous on your amazing nails. I was wondering what this color shade would look like with using Essie Matte or OPI Matte Nail Envy instead of the CND effects on my toes?

But, alas it would not have the shine as you have shown and gold tips would look amazing with Green Scene. Not for me though, LOL

    ((((Love Michelle))))

PS I was planning on doing a post on “My G spot about the fascination of nail polish on woman (and men) today?” I would like to include some of your swatches, and post a link to your web page. I don’t have any advertisers so I don’t make any money from my web blog, I just wanted to write about my favorite nail polish web blogs. Like VV, and Laquermanic, etc. Would that be okay? I would show you my final draft before publishing it. We can discuss this privately if you Wish.

Hi George! I haven’t tried Green Scene matte but I don’t know if it would be something I’d wear on my toes. I like shine on my toes but that’s just me. And I’m flattered that you would want to write about me. Feel free and be sure to send me a link when it goes up!

I love the idea of muting a vivid color with a sheer cream polish like Cream Washed. I might try this out with some polishes I already have – TY for the inspiration!

  9. Alllison says:

I love these CND effects polishes. I have one and I can’t think of what it is called but it everything sparkly, almost iridescent and I have it over a white Essie right now.
