alu-cnd-monday-sweet-sugar-sparkle Welcome to CND Monday, a regular series here on ALU. Each week I’ll be sharing a new layering combination from CND Colour & Effects to show you the versatility and creativity of the line.

Fanatics, today I have a special edition of CND Monday for you featuring Sweet and Sugar Sparkle; “The Look” for Spring 2010.   A few months ago I talked about CND’s new concept for releasing seasonal colors (check out CND Colour & Effects… What’s Next? for a refresher) and how each Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter they’ll release a new LE Colour and Effect to reflect the trends.  This season CND is taking us to the “Candy Shop” with two sugary confections.  Check them out!

If you missed my detailed review of the new CND Formula, Bottle and Brush check out CND Colour, Effects and Henna? for a recap.

Sweet is a hot pink creme that dries a shade darker than my picture shows.  It’s not eye-searing enough to be neon yet it makes a statement, like a bright Barbie car.  Compared to the existing CND pinks, Sweet is lighter and less berry than Raspberry Plunge and warmer than the purple-toned Taffy Pink.

The pigmentation is outstanding as usual though for the first time the application wasn’t entirely spot on.  I had a bit of streaking on my middle finger requiring a third coat.  Though my bottle is a sample and the formula was a bit stringy so I’m hoping mine is the exception to the rule.

Sugar Sparkle looks like crushed rock candy on the nail.  With multi-shaped, multi-sized white glitter suspended in a clear base, it adds a bit of frosting (to steal a term from How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days) to your nails.  Yes, I get sucked into cheesy rom-coms, especially when Kate Hudson is involved.

As you can see, Sugar Sparkle doesn’t necessarily change the base color underneath, it just adds interest, texture and glitz.

Sweet and Sugar Sparkle will launch this spring.  I don’t have an exact date yet but I will update you when I do.  You can find CND Colour & Effects at salons nationwide and online at our fave e-tailers (see sidebar). Colours retail for $9/ea and Effects retail for $11/ea.

What do you think of Sweet and Sugar Sparkle?  I know I’m looking forward to trying Sugar Sparkle over some other Colours and I’ll be posting those soon.  Are you feeling the candy coated vibe of CND’s spring palette?

Disclosure: A product sample was furnished to me by CND. For further information view my Disclosure Policy.

I love that combo! and I love that movie too!

  2. Andi says:

Sweet is nice but nothing super unique. I’m definitely going to pick up Sugar Sparkle, I can already see a million uses for it!

  3. Katy M says:

I’m loving Sugar Sparkle, though Sweet just isn’t my type of color. I can’t wait to try Sugar Sparkle over some of my darker purples and blues from this fall/ winter to see if it will make them more spring-y?

  4. Danica says:

That looks like my fave toppie – Sally Hansen Diamond Strength 05 Diamonds

  5. Lisa says:

I love sugar sparkle. I will definitely be buying it. I like sweet, but it looks a little too warm for my tastes.

  6. Maggie says:

I love Sweet. I think I picked up a color called sweet from another polish, and I like this one a lot more!

  7. ellen says:

thanks for posting, it’s pretty but might be too “barbie” for me!

on another note – if you get a chance, I would love to see swatches of the new spring sephora by opi’s – they are on the website but not in stock yet – looks like a great green and a few great purples!

  8. Ava says:

I love that! so cute! For some reason i really wish that the bottles were connected though.. or made to where they can connect like puzzle pieces so you could pair and travel with them.

  9. Meghan says:

I love these two, I cannot wait for them to come out!!!

  10. Ashley says:

How does this compare to Sugar High (up & away)?

  11. Samantha says:

Ooh, Sugar Sparkle is very pretty! $11 is a bit pricey for me though. Anyone know a cheaper alternative?

    • ReaderRita says:

Samantha- if you look for CND online after the collection is released, several places seem to have better prices- check out Michelle’s list under ‘Nail Polish Links’ on the right of this page.
(Head2Toe and GoIndulge are the two that immediately come to mind-and maybe 8ty8Beauty, too. I don’t know if they discount new releases, though…)

  12. Stef says:

I haven’t been impressed with the Color & Effects, but this post really changed my mind. With all the fabby creams that are coming out for Spring (hello China Glaze!) a little silver sparkle would be gorgeous over the top of them!

  13. Amanda says:

I think Sugar Sparkle might be the favorite effect I’ve seen yet. I prefer the ones that don’t change the base coat.

  14. This is my favorite CND combo so far! Really cute! I love the base color by itself and then Sugar Sparkle makes it really pop.

  15. ReaderRita says:

I think I need Sugar Sparkle. Perfect for spring. I love Effects, because you can change polish you already own, in ways you never imagined! In the long run, it saves you money, kind of like a matte t/c!

  16. MissDeeCanada says:

This is GORGEOUS. I love that pretty pink. Thats what summer and spring is all about these bright bold colours! I cannot wait!

    Thanks for another great post!

    Hugs!

  17. stubby says:

So pretty! I have to have this!

One question. When do you think the e-tailers will have the CG up & away collection? I need those sooo bad!!!

  18. Chrissy says:

Gorgeous! I want ‘em BOTH! :)

  19. Jeanette says:

Oh my! Sugar Sparkle looks stunning! Sugar looks pretty too but I probably won’t purchase it. However I must get my paws on Sugar Sparkle when it will be released. :D

  20. Denise says:

oh wow! i like this combination! i think Sugar Sparkle will look great on any nail colour!

  21. joyce howard says:

can we buy the shellac? How much?

  22. Najelle says:

Hi! just fyi, skylark nail supply in garden grove california sells these, not sure about what colors and i believe i saw the price at $5…don’t quote me on the price cause there are a lot of nail polishes there…they sell china glaze for $2, essie for $3, orly for $3, and opi for $3 or $4… and other nail polishes for 50 cents….also nail art polishes for as low as $1 i went there on saturday (5.8.10) and they had boxes of china glaze’s poolside collection…also $2.

hope this helps some of you!
