alu-cnd-monday-plumville-violet-shimmer Welcome to CND Monday, a new feature here on ALU. Each week I’ll be sharing a new layering combination from CND Colour & Effects to show you the versatility and creativity of the line.

OK so I’m not confused, I know it’s Tuesday but due to server issues I wasn’t able to post my CND Monday combo and I just couldn’t wait a week to do so.  This server downtime is driving me batty but it should be resolved. *fingers crossed*

This combo was inspired by a reader comment.  ReaderRita mentioned that she recently ordered Violet Shimmer hoping it would look good layered over any color.  I decided to pull mine out of the drawer to see how it if fares with Plumville.  Check out the results after the jump!

If you missed my detailed review of the new CND Formula, Bottle and Brush check out CND Colour, Effects and Henna? for a recap.

Plumville is a rich blue based berry creme.  It’s not quite raspberry, not quite plum.  It’s what I imagine a snozberry would look like.  “Who ever heard of a snozberry?” The color is so rich and the pigment is so strong that I barely needed a seconnd coat and it applied so damn flawlessly.  To my creme loving Fanatics, you NEED to try this formula if you haven’t already.  I find myself saying “Wow, this is amazing!” every single week.

Adding a layer of Violet Shimmer not only lightened the hue, it gave it this cool blue-violet flash.  The shimmer particles are so fine that you really have to be looking for them so instead of shimmer, it adds a veil of glow.  This combo reminds me of an OPI but the name is escaping my mind.  Anyone know which one I’m talking about?

You can find CND Colour & Effects at salons nationwide and online at our fave e-tailers (see sidebar). Colours retail for $9/ea and Effects retail for $11/ea.

So are we feeling this? Can you think of similar shade to this one? I couldn’t find a creme dupe but if anyone can think of that OPI, I’d appreciate it. It will continue to bother me until then. Jewel of India?? Darn, I’m not sure. Anywho, ReaderRita I hope you’re happy with your Violet Shimmer purchase. If you have a CND Monday request, leave it in the comments.

The color + effect looks EXACTLY like Sally Hanson Salon “Violet Kiss” (which I actually just mailed off in a swap, or I’d show you a swatch pic, so you’ll just have to take my word for it!). The SH is much cheaper, though, of course. :)

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Is that a current Salon color or from a LE collection? The name isn’t ringing any bells for me

  2. Roze says:

    Kinky in Helsinki?
And Orly’s happily ever after has that same sort of bluish/pinkish shimmer.
Adore the Snozberry as is – I’m a creme girl (on a lowbuy, so this will be wishlist bc I have a basket full of berry colors…)

  3. moeysullivan says:

    could it be Peru-B-Ruby?

  4. Emily says:

Is it OPI Pompeii Purple? Cause I own that shade, and this TOTALLY reminds me of it!! Oh, and I would love it if you would do a Glee nail special, please and thank you :)

    • All Lacquered Up says:

A Glee nail special? Like what were you thinking? I posted about them last spring when the show premiered and about Tina’s nail color a few weeks ago. I heard from the show’s makeup department head that Tina will be wearing new polish colors when the show starts back up after the holiday break.

  5. Janelle says:

The finished result looks like OPI’s Flashbulb Fuschia, but a little more shimmery.

    • All Lacquered Up says:

That one or Ladies & Magenta Men from the same collection always get me confused. I forget which is which. I’ll have to look at both in the a.m.

  6. Keke says:

Maybe Pompeii Purple? That was the first nail polish I became obsessed with!

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Maybe that’s why I couldn’t think of it. I’ve only seen pics of Pompeii Purple, I don’t own it. I’ll have to look for pics to refresh my memory.

  7. Emily says:

I am actually wearing OPI’s Flashbulb Fuschia now, and as soon as I saw this post I looked at my toes to compare!

    • All Lacquered Up says:

I’ll have to pull out my bottle in the morning when I have good light and compare. That one came to mind.

  8. Karinloveseyeshadow says:

I also thought of Pompeii Purple! In any case, it’s a gorgeous colour. You make me want to buy each and every one of these effect polishes!

  9. Olga says:

    What a cool combo!
It reminds me ORLY Gorgeous. The colour is basically the same. It has also same sort of shimmer, but perhaps more blue than violet.

  10. All Lacquered Up says:

OK so I looked at my stash and at swatch pics online and I’d say that Roze’s suggestion of Orly Happily Ever After is the closest cousin to this layering combo. HEA is darker though but in the same family

  11. Samantha says:

Another one I love! I personally think the layering is unique since my Orly Happily Ever After is so difficult to get the barely-there shimmer to show up in pictures on the nail. I’m thinking that since I’m getting heavily into layering again, I oughta get these CND Colors and Effects. By the way, I’d love it (if you have them, of course) if you could swatch Bicycle yellow and Sapphire Sparkle (or Ice Blue Shimmer) together since those are colors I *am* planning on getting in the near future? Thanks.

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Ohh, that sounds like a unique combo. Thanks for the suggestion. I have all of the Colours and Effects so feel free to suggest any combo.

  12. ReaderRita says:

Oh, thank you for this! I agree with Roze, I get more of a Kinky in Helsinki-type-color on my monitor, but that’s probably just my calibration. Good to know. And yes, I just got my Violet Shimmer, but I haven’t used it yet. I was hypnotized by and thus had to try another new acquisition; NUBAR Reclaim (GORGEOUS!). Speaking of that, maybe we should all put our heads together to wish for a dark green holo, and some nice company will follow suit! Have you heard of any on the horizon? I am seriously jonesing for one.
This week’s CND Tuesday is a very lovely combination- although I am not so much a monotone layerer (is that even a word? oh, well…) as a contrast layerer. I’m thinking of my maiden CND voyage being: Violet Shimmer over RBL Recycle for Thanksgiving.
    Hopefully, I won’t wreck it while cooking…
Have a great holiday, and thank you again!

    • All Lacquered Up says:

If layerer isn’t a word, it is now, ha! I like your idea of putting it over Recycle. I like to mix it up as well, I was just trying to wear Plumville. I saw it used during Fashion Week and fell in love with the color.

I’m with you on the dark green holo. I think it was on my New Year’s wish list a couple years ago and I’m still waiting for it to happen.

looks like overexposed in south beach to me!
