CND Monday – Raisin in the Sun Colour & Gold Shimmer Effect

Welcome to CND Monday, a new feature here on ALU. Each week I’ll be sharing a new layering combination from CND Colour & Effects to show you the versatility and creativity of the line.

I have to give in and admit that it is officially Fall. That the cold and gloom are here to stay in the old Cleveburg. I wouldn’t mind so much if we actually had a lovely long fall but I fear the white stuff (shh, don’t say its name) is looming in the distance.

For now, I will embrace the thought of warm cider, pumpkin everything and cozy sweater weather. The leaves on my trees are starting to turn and that inspired me to test drive a warm autumnal shade for CND Monday, Raisin in the Sun. I glitzed it out with a layer of Gold Shimmer which resulted in a surprising result. Take a peek after the jump!

If you missed my detailed review of the new CND Formula, Bottle and Brush check out CND Colour, Effects and Henna? for a recap.

Raisin in the Sun is just as the name implies, a rich browned red creme. As with all the CND Colours I’ve tried, it applies evenly in two coats thanks to the high pigmentation.

Tip: The label now includes tone (Warm, Cool) and density (Sheer, Opaque) descriptors. So helpful!

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I added a layer of Gold Shimmer over top. I thought it might give a subtle hint of gold fleck but instead it lightened the base resulting in this gold-green effect that looks like the love child of China Glaze Cat’s Eye & Wagon Trail.

FYI: Gold Pearl turns Raisin in the Sun a GORGEOUS shade of green. Ridiculously cool.

You can find CND Colour & Effects at salons nationwide and online at our fave e-tailers (see sidebar). If you’re looking to stock up on some of your old CND faves GoIndulge.com is clearancing out a lot of their stock for only $2/ea!!

What do you think of this week’s combo? Are any of you wearing fall inspired manicures?

Actually, I am wearing the opposite!! I was inspired by your white nail polish trend post (and with my love for Glee, it was all over the stars' nails), so I am wearing OPI Kyoto Pearl!!

Ooh, love that combination! I never thought that those two would make a seriously awesome color! I'm gonna have to go out and buy this combo now, as well as a lemming of Bicycle Yellow and Sapphire Sparkle combo.

  5. loungie says:

  6. loungie says:

Emily – Yay for another Glee fan. I love that they put so many clips online of them singing.

Karen – You're welcome. Glad you like it.

Patuxxa – Oh good, I'm glad it's making it outside the US.

Nailinglife – I know! It's amazing how all the Effects look very similar in the bottle but completely change the polishes they're layered over.

Loungie – The sparkles and shimmers are very different. Because the shimmers are so dense, they really lighten up and change the color underneath. The sparkles just add a layer of bling without changed the base color as much.

Love the color! Since you compared it to CG Wagon Trail, how do you think it matches up to Chanel's Or de Russie? Thank you!

  9. Laura says:

Thanks for this post! I can't believe how great this combination looks and it makes me even more curious about the new CND polish. Thanks for the heads up about the sale, too!

  10. Sarie says:

Can anyone suggest somewhere that ships CND internationally please? I can't find them in the UK!
