China Glaze Fortune Teller Nail Polish Swatches & Review

I’m not one for the whole Halloween thing. The holiday has always spooked me out, no pun intended. So when I when I caught a glimpse of China Glaze’s special release for the season, Fortune Teller, I was all, “That’s a concept I can get behind!” Astrologists, psychics, palm readers, etc. I’ve been to at least one of each in the past. Do I believe everything they say, no, but I find it entertaining.

The wizards at China Glaze who created this color were definitely in a mysterious mood for Fortune Teller has a magical, fall feel. Check it out!

Fortune Teller is a Sally Beauty exclusive release part of the Spellbound collection. Along the lines of Lubu Heels, it consists of a semi-sheer glossy black base packed with multi-sized copper colored glitter and irregularly shaped particles. I’d say it’s the copper version of Lippmann’s Ruby Red Slippers.

Of course such heavily packed, chunky glitter means the polish dries with texture. That’s just a downside of these types of polishes. Though a layer of Seche Vite cures all. Because the base is semi-sheer I ended up using three coats to make it completely opaque.

China Glaze Fortune Teller can be found in a 6-piece seasonal display at Sally Beauty and retails for $5.99 ($4.49 with a Beauty Club Card).

How many of you have already bought Fortune Teller? What do you think of it? Have any of you had trouble tracking down a bottle?

At first I didn't think I'd get this one because, though it's beautiful, it seemed like its use was limited. Plus I don't usually go to Sally's. But then one day I had to go to a different branch of my bank, and lo and behold, Sally's was next door and they had just two bottles left.

    It was clearly fate.

I bought it and absolutely everyone, younger, older, male, female, thinks the polish is just stunning.

I'm loving Fortune Teller — the three or four different sizes of glitter make this fabulous random pattern (which reminded me of Nfu-Ohs unattainable flakies). It's also one of the most successful "glitter pieces" polishes I've ever tried — the glitter actually appears on my nails instead of staying in the bottle. The only downside is that — like all glitter polishes — it's a bit of a pain to remove.

SEH – I'm not familiar with Albert Bridge, is that a top coat? The one I recommended is the Kensington Caviar Top Coat. I'm sorry you had so many problems with the one you purchased. 5 hours?? That's ridiculous

  5. D:) says:

I bought it on a whim at sally's. Lovely but, as always w/ glitters, a total f*cking bitch to get off.

  6. Alison says:

A very lovely friend in the US got one for me and sent it to me here in the UK, I absolutely love it! I'm going to wear it over halloween for sure!

  7. Rachel says:

I have 6 bottles now, from 3 different Sally's. I didn't want to be a hog and buy out a whole display. It's the greatest Halloween nail polish in the UNIVERSE!!

    Hi!
I picked up Fortune Teller, Dreamsicle and Glacier, along with Matte Magic.
    I really like all 3.

I'm with Karlasugar, I manage to get this beauty and I love its uber-glitterness :) I am putting it on tomorrow!! :)

  10. Revampy says:

I was hesitant to buy it because I thought it was limiting. But I have had it on my toes for one week and I like it. It is very fall.

  11. Tiffany says:

I am so getting this! I love the funky polishes!!

  12. The Pretty Brown Girl says:

I got my friend to buy it for me since she lives near a Sally's in the suburbs (There is no Sally's in The Capital City!) and I'm just waiting for her to bring it over. I can't wait to try it out. It looks exciting!

  13. Sharon says:

I love Halloween ! Will have to see this in person to know if I really want to buy any. Thanks for the heads up !

  14. Helen (Nice Things) says:

I live in the UK so didn't have a hope in hell of getting one….til one of my lovely US readers snagged one for me as part of a swap. Hurrah! I wonder if I'll be the first Brit to own one??

  15. SEH says:

yeah it is — it's their trademark high gloss quick dry topcoat. same as the kensington just without teh caviar. i'll stick to my diamont!

  16. Jammies says:

I got 9 Fortune Tellers at my local Sally's. Two went to the UK, 3 to local friends, 1 to the wilds of New York and 1 to NYC. I've still got one for me and one I'm hoping to trade for BPAL. Mine will be my first post-toe surgery pedicure in another week or so!

  17. Denette says:

I don't have mine yet, but it is coming! I am not a big fan of the bumpy look, so I think I am going to try layering one coat over a black creme. This might also help with the painful removal process.

  18. Nicole says:

I snagged the last bottle at my local Sally's and I just can't wait to try it out. This one looks awesome with a matte topcoat over it too!

  19. stubby says:

I got mine about two weeks ago and have yet to wear a full mani. I did swatch my thumb and wore it for a day or two and man, was it a PITA to remove! But hey, that's that price we pay for blingdigity nails!!!

  20. NatKashtanov says:

I don't think I would buy it :), I would probably circulating around and viewing it. But I like the idea! And the ad is awesome!

    Hi Michelle:

It's a brillant and beautiful color for a Halloween Party. I could see someone dressing up as a Wicked Witch with this one her fingers. The glitter polish scares the h*ck out of me. How easy (or difficult is ti to get off ) with ordinary polish remover? Or even a polish remover especially for dark polishes? LOL

Still it's looks gorgeous on your nails. and there's a Sally's Beauty near by…

    (((Love Michelle))))

I was complaining to my sis about what a pain Fortune Teller is to remove. When she used it, she did 2 coats of plain glossy black polish and topped it with only 1 or 2 coats of Fortune Teller. Her finished nails looked just as glittery as mine, were less chunky, and the polish was way easier to take off. Just an idea that might help!

  23. Mariah9999 says:

I love it but haven't been able to find a bottle and I've been looking for about a month now. I think it's the perfect Halloween shade. I did get Spellbound online and I guess that's what I'll settle for if I can't find one in person. :)

  24. Erin says:

I have been going to the local Sally beauty about twice a week looking for this!!!! And I had my friend look for me in another one. No luck so far!

  25. Meevia says:

    Hey michelle :)

I'm falling in love at the first sight with this color and I asked my friend who lives in Boston to go to his local Sally and get it for me. Unfortunately, the lady said that it has sold out. And I think I won't get it.

But last night, I was browsing and I found 4 bottles of them in Ebay! I bought 3 bottles for 8.99 each, 2 for my friend and 1 for me :)

Well, do you believe in fate? LOL.. Can't wait to see them for real :D
