The ALU Archives – Shu Uemura P665

The ALU Archives focuses on older, beloved shades from the All Lacquered Up stash.

A sweet reader, Faye, emailed me quite some time ago about how she visited the L’oreal Company Store and spotted two GREEN Shu Uemura nail polishes that I just had to have. I was floored and flattered that she thought of me and was kind enough to send them my way. The generosity of strangers, I tell you!

One of the polishes is a dark green creme a la NARS Zulu and the other is such a unique hue, words fail me to describe it. Take a peek after the jump!

I tried my first Shu polish (sounds like I’m saying shoe polish) last year when I picked up their gorgeous fall shade during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. I was instantly sucked in by the formula and pigment packed color. By the time I got my hands on Tanzanite Aquarium from the holiday collection I was hooked. The formula is flawless and they really pile on the glitz and glamour.

So why am I seeing the nail polish listed in the discontinued section of the Shu Uemura website?? Say it isn’t so Shu!!! Just when I found you, you leave me? What the H people?

Here’s hoping that by posting this glorious green shimmer we can generate grassroots support for a revival of the nail polish line. This beauty is named P665, so boring. She deserves a much more creative moniker, no? The silver shimmer and muted, spring green hue make this one a winner in my book. I haven’t come across another polish anything like it.

Sun (we have sun in the CLE today, yay!)

So where are my fellow Shu polish fans? Do you have any favorite shades you just can’t live without? Anyone else disappointed to hear the line is in the DC’d bin?

oh this is a very pretty green!

    L'Oreal has a company store…?

Why has no one talked about this!

    And where is it??

    Inquiring minds want to know!

  3. All Lacquered Up says:

Mama Jen – Thanks! I just wish it wasn't discontinued. For an older polish it still applies perfectly.

Sage1 – The store is for L'oreal employees and guests, it's not open to the public. I was able to shop there when I was in NYC in September and went wild on Kerastase. I had no clue how many brands they own.

The green is fab. I have several Shu polishes and love them. PA924 is one of my favorite pinks ever (dark berry w/multi color micro shimmer). If they are discontinuing them, it would be sad. There are L'Oreal brand outlets called "The Company Store" in outlet shopping centers around the country. Mostly Lancome, but also Shu and Armani stuff.

Ok, that is seriously gorgeous. I have trouble finding greens that are not too dark or too minty. I might have to desperately try to hunt P665 down! It does deserve a better name…"spring green frost?" Nah, that's pretty Crayola. Thanks for sharing!

    Gorgeous! Wow.

  7. Anonymous says:

That is a gorgeous and unusual green. It brings to mind early morning dew on blades of grass. I would buy that in a New York minute! I wish more companies would quit being chicken and make some good greens, grays, and blues part of their permanent collections!

  8. All Lacquered Up says:

Nailpolishtwit – Thanks for the tip. I've Cosmetic Company Outlets for the EL brands (MAC, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, etc) but never those.

Ann Loves Beauty – Anything would be better than P665. If I ever come across a dupe, I'll be sure to share.

    Susanna – Thank you!

Anon – Thank you! Hear that brands?? We need more perm greens!! I love your description, very poetic.

  9. Lauren says:

I love that color – so so much! I also love Shu polish. I lurve my Nuance top coat and Tanzanite Aquarium. You know, I just assumed that those particular colors shown on their website were discontinued, not the entire polish line. I'm curious now. And I super hope I'm right (and that the polishes are not being killed)!! :P Ugh.

  10. Faye says:

I was the one who sent the polishes — glad you liked them. Although frankly they were so cheap I can't take too much credit.

Also, to clarify, the one I went to was a CCO — any member of the public can go! It's in New York City, in the same building as L'oreal, and it had Armani, Lancome, and Shu available. It's so cheap because it tends to have discontinued (although not always) color products.

It's midtown on the West Side on Fifth Avenue — not far from the Diamond District. If anyone wants more exact directions post that here — I can look up my trip documents from when I was there.
