OPI Suede Collection Preview

It looks like OPI is following up the Matte collection with set of satin metallic finish polishes along the lines of the Zoya Matte Velvets. Dubbed Suede by OPI it’s another reworking of existing shades only this time they’re mattified with shimmer. So those of us that were let down by Russian Navy Matte not having any sparkle, this may be just what we were looking for. Get the full deets after the jump!

Be Per-Sueded!

OPI Introduces Nail Lacquer Shades with a Suede Finish OPI brings the look of lush suede to the ultimate accessory – nails – with new Suede by OPI Nail Lacquers in six best-selling OPI shades.

“Suede by OPI elevates nails to a new dimension of fashion, as exciting as a pair of stiletto-heeled suede pumps,” says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director.

“The rich suede look is a stunning complement to fall fashions, and is meant for the woman who is confident about her style and wants to stand out. Suede by OPI does not wear as long as original OPI Nail Lacquer – but it is a totally original look you’ll want to own this season!”

According to Suzi, you can wear any of the Suede by OPI shades on its own, or create your own look by mixing it with the traditional gloss formula of the same OPI color. “Wearing both textures together is like wearing a fabulous suede jacket with a sexy silk blouse,” says Suzi. To maintain the Suede by OPI finish, do not use any base coat, top coat, drying drops, or hand lotion when wearing these lacquers.

Suede by OPI is available in six iconic OPI shades:

Russian Navy – Wait until you see this deep-sea indigo!

You Don’t Know Jacques! – If you don’t know how trendy this taupe is!

Lincoln Park After Dark – Where midnight meets purple. Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees – Our color “mogul” loves this deep blue-grey. OPI Ink. – Make your mark with this sparkling violet-blue.

We’ll Always Have Paris – Rendezvous with this romantically rich coffee-plum.

Suede by OPI will be available beginning September 2009 in salons including national chains like Trade Secret, Ulta, Regis, Beauty Brands, and JCPenney. Polishes retail for $8.50 ($10.95 CAN).

So will you embrace the suede? Which look do you think you’ll prefer Matte or Suede? Or Neither?

I’m hoping to get a look at the collection while I’m in Vegas so stay tuned for updates.

I think this finish will be anexciting look. Will there be a problem with wearing a top coat? I wish there were some newer shade and not repeated ones.

  2. moeysullivan says:

Wow, I feel so affirmed. I bought some Orly Nails for Males last night and tried it out on OPI Ink and Yoga-ta Get this Blue!

  3. Regine says:

Hmmm…I'm gonna have to see swatches before I jump in and buy any. I didn't like any of the new matte shades of any brand. I like it glossy!

I wonder how these would look with a normal glossy finish top coat. Would they resemble the original color?

  4. Irides says:

Um, that CAN'T be You Don't Know Jacques. o_o. You Don't Know Jacques is a moody, oddball, dark-mushroom-head color. This "You Don't Know Jacques" is, well, the nail polish equivalent of a camel coat, I'd imagine. How disappointing. OPI, I am let down by you. D:

    Thanks for the colors, though!

  5. tigra1411 says:

Well-well, let's what it looks like. Hope they don't look like one dirty spot on the finger tips.
I really want to love them.

  6. rosarita says:

I think this whole trend will be a pass for me. Handcream is essential, and I like my nails shiny.

  7. cbh02bb says:

I love the Zoya matte finishes so if the OPI suedes are like the zoya shades i'll be all over it! Can't wait to see swatches :)

  8. Nail Fanatic says:

Ooo! Suede? I'm curious as to how THAT will turn out. I'd probably try it, since I love matte nail polishes now! I can't wait for them!

  9. lolwut says:

I think I'll like this better than the mattes.

  10. Steph NJ says:

    Interesting :)

  11. Liz says:

Huh? I just don"t get this so they're releasing matte shades with shimmer. I guess some are made from other shades they haven't turned matte. But how many times can they release the same shades (ydkj, Russian navy). I mean I am kinda curious to see YDKJ as a satin-shimmer, but I kinda wish they would release some new shades.

  12. Diana says:

I'm intrigued by the finish, but I echo those who are bewildered and/or disappointed by the shade repeats. I don't understand at all why they would release RN & YDKJ in both matte AND "suede" finish within a 2 month period. It's completely ridiculous. I love Russian Navy, but would I buy it in 3 different formulas? Absolutely not.

  13. Anonymous says:

I've been waiting for these! How exciting the time is coming. Can't wait to see swatches, then might order three mattes and three of these as to order less than 6 from uk doesn't make sense in postage prices.

  14. anja says:

    Very excited about this collection!!

  15. mea71 says:

Essie has a matte topcoat that you can wear over regular nailpolish plus you can use handcreams with it :).

  16. Jason says:

I agree with moeysullivan, using a matte or satin topcoat allows you to use any color you like and get the same effect. And Liz hit it with the fact that these are not 'new' shades at all.
I also use Orly Nails for Males and it looks great! In fact, I think I prefer the satin look to the full not-at-all glossy matte look.

  17. Linda says:

I would still appreciate some new colours instead of old staples re-done!

  18. Anti-aging Sytropin says:

Matte just doesn't work for me. I'll try this Suede when it comes out. But I'm not too thrilled with the color repeats.

  19. Lauren says:

Did you ever do swatches with this collection? I've been seeing them in stores and I'm interested to see how they look. I'm not into matte, so my expectations are low, but curious nonetheless!

  20. Ashley says:

I tried the lincoln park after dark without even realizing it was that! I dont like the original because its too dark on me, but this one is way lighter. the suede is far superior to the matte but still doesnt last at all even with base coat. i actually do like the look though, and its the fastest drying nail polish i have ever had and you cant dent it. late for a nightout, this is the solution.

  21. ytsejam says:

the colors are great – however, the gray suzy does pyrennees almost looked like my nails were colored with lead (as in lead pencil). a top coat on this gray makes it look fabulous IMHO

  22. Pat says:

I like the camel color. But. Not being able to use top coat, quick dry, and hand cream – too high maintenance for me. I like shine as well. sooo I probably won’t try these.

  23. Hayley says:

Yes i agree, I have the Suzie Skiis one and it looks amazing! There is no problem with the top coat, it looks FAB! it feels so amazing and soft! Hope you enjoy!
