Chanel Intermezzo and Gondola Le Vernis for Fall 2009

As a city built on water, Venice was a source of great intrigue for Gabrielle Chanel. She saw it as simultaneously dramatic and fragile – qualities she herself possessed. With the imagination of the CHANEL Makeup Studio, Venice comes to life in a palette reflective of the city’s shimmering facades and mosaics, and the sparkling aquatic colours of its lagoons.

As seen in the runway looks created by Peter Philips, Global Creative Director of CHANEL Makeup, at the 2009/10 Cruise Collection show, held on the beaches of Venice, Italy, rich sienna and deep rose tones, and dusky greys and greens combine for a modern look that can be softened for day or emboldened come evening.

Ahh Venice. How I long to go back. I spent three amazing days there with the Boyfriend back in 2002. We stayed in a gorgeous guest house, Palazzo Bembo, right on the canal near the Rialto Bridge. We spent our days wandering the maze of streets shopping, sightseeing and discovering the amazing food and wine of the region. This season Chanel aims to transport us to Venice with their fall colleciton inspired by the colors of this magical city. For nails they introduce Intermezzo, a white pearl, and Gondola, a stunning maroon shimmer. Let’s take a look.

Gondola is a rich burgundy sparkler. It is packed with gold and red micro-shimmer that catch the light adding a bit of jazz to what could be just another berry red. In typical Chanel fashion it’s a chic shimmer not a blingy glitter polish. It applied in two even coats and dried to a glossy, smooth finish.

Intermezzo is an icy white with an opalescent shimmer that gives off a pinkish sheen in the light. I’m not gonna lie, I’m not really a fan of the formula. It applies pretty streaky, requiring three coats and even then my smile line shows through.
The Chanel Fall collection Le Vernis lacquers retail for $23/ea and are available now on Chanel.com and at Chanel counters nationwide.

What do we think Fanatics? Are we loving these or what? Anyone planning to indulge?

The red is nice but not unique enough to warrant the spend and I'm with you on the pale. Just been comparing these swatches with some you did back in 08, your nails are quite a bit longer now – have you discovered something magic that makes it easier to keep them a bit longer and looking fab, or are you just wearing them a tad longer these days, not a fan of long, long nails much prefer shorter, yours are perfect right about now. And yet again am green with envy!

  2. Kaybee says:

    Sorry, not for $23.00.

I agree, the formula's not the best. Also, I didn't think I would but I actually like the pink sheen it gives.

How does Intermezzo compare to OPI Fit For A Queensland???

I bought Gondola… it's definately gorgeous. Pictures don't do it justice!

Love Gondola! Also – thanks for sharing truthfully what you thought of Intermezzo – I always appreciate that I can get a straight answer regarding formulas from you!

  6. Miss Fig says:

I think Intermezzo would be perfect for a bride.

That's an idea – what are some good polish choices for a bride? Safe for tips, more wild for toes.

I don´t like Intermezzo at all but I do like Gondola. Cuz I´m trying not to spend too much money for nail polishes wondering if there are any Gondolas dupes (maybe from ChG fall 09 collection???).

  8. pinksoysauce says:

I love both, but I tend to like lighter colors more so I'm eyeing Intermezzo. I've seen some photos of it with three coats that look pretty opaque though; how many coats did it take you to get it opaque? Do you know of any dupes?

  9. Nail Fanatic says:

    Wow, I'm loving Intermezzo. But $30 :(

  10. Stef says:

Both colors are pretty, but I don't like either one enough to justify the price.

  11. Alison says:

I really like Gondola but will probably get both, I love my Chanel polishes and these two will be welcome additions!

  12. donna says:

meh, i have a list of greens that i'm just dying for. these are not unique. but your nails look great.

  13. melsh says:

i want Gondola because i have been to Venice, lol.

I am in love with Gondola!! $23??!! Any dupes??? Please find a dupe!! :)

  15. Kareberry says:

How does the color compare to Zoya's Denise? If it's similar I might go for Gondola since none of Zoya's polishes have been working out for me!

  16. kimberly says:

Loving the red, but it's pricey. I wear sandals all year round (California), and this would be a great toe color in the fall.

intermezzo looks like opi fit for a queensland

  18. Mer says:

Intermezzo is totally like this old Chanel polish. I think it was called Crystalline. Nice color, with a nightmare application!
    I love Gondola though.

  19. Mikki says:

Funny, I was just looking at Intermezzo and thinking that it reminded me of an older Chanel Polish I have. Mer is correct, it's called Crystalline Opal and it was quite the rage when it came out 15 or so years ago. I still have mine. Loved it then and still do. I don't think it took 3 coats to be opaque though. I did cave today and bought Gondola. It is gorgeous. My splurge of the season!

  20. Ana says:

I don’t know if anyone is still looking at this post, but OPI Cabernet for the lady is reallyyy similar to Gondola.
