Best of Orly Spring & Summer 2009

For Spring and Summer 2009, Orly hit us with three, count ‘em THREE, colorful new collections; Prepster, Carnivale and Tiki Time.

While all three have some fun colors, none of them wowed me as a whole so I chose my favorites to show to you. Check out my Top 5 of the season after the jump!

One thing I noticed is that most of the bold creme shades are jelly-like in texture. They’re semi-sheer but buildable and have that glossy, rubberized look that makes jellies so cool. I know the sheers in the Prepster collection are great for layering but they just weren’t doing it for me.

Cashmere Cardigan is a stunning periwinkle blue creme. It’s well pigmented but looks best with three coats. To me this shade looks a lot like Essie Huckle Buckle, minus the shimmer.
I knew I would love Mint Mojito before I even saw it. I’m all over this bright spring green. It also needs three coats but who cares. It’s lovely. It’s actually more vibrant in person but it’s really hard to capture. Actually you should check out the manicure Brittany (aka Clumps of Mascara) did with Cashmere Cardigan and Mint Mojito. She did it herself and it’s way gorg!
Festival Lights is a beautious melon tinged orange. Like a perfectly ripe canteloupe, it’s vivid but not BRIGHT.
Country Club Khaki is the shade celebrity manicurist Jenna Hipp raved about when I interviewed her for WOYN? and it’s no wonder. This is a great neutral mushroom hue. It’s like the spring version of You Don’t Know Jacques.
Finally the shade that made my heart skip, Calypso Breeze. I can’t think of a blue in my stash that looks quite like this and I don’t even know how to describe it. It makes me think of lake water, the sky before a storm and denim all mixed together.
All these polishes are limited edition but still available online at Head2ToeBeauty.com and TransDesign.com. Orly is also carried at Sally Beauty Supply but seasonal collections tend to sell out fast so availability will vary by location.

So what did you think of the Orly Spring/Summer collections? Which colors did you pick up?

The high school goth in me is ashamed that I am even thinking about buying a polish from a collection called "Prepster," but here we are.

    They all look really nice.
    Great swatches, thanks!

Calypso Breeze reminds me of China Glaze Aqua Baby and Shower Together.

i picked up mint mojito but I must admit i kinda freankened it by adding some white to make it more minty. Mine was a bit too green goblin for my taste.

Great post! I'm actually wearing Cashmere Cardigan right now! I love the Orly collections that were recently released. I got almost all the same polishes you reviewe! Mint Mojito, wore it last week :) I haven't worn Country Club Khaki or Calypso Breeze yet. And instead of Festival Lights, I got Sol Cabana from the Tiki Time collection. It's more of an orange creme. I love these polishes though and really enjoyed your post and seeing them on someone else's nails!

You rock, lady! Can you believe I am still wearing that manicure? I love it too much. Crossing my fingers that they still have Festival Lights at Sally's. Last time I was there it was only $1.99!! Orly did an awesome job this season. I was quite impressed!

These colors look GREAT!!! I bought Mint Mijito earlier this summer from transdesign and I LOVE it. I stopped by Sally's on sunday and I caught a SUPER sale on Country Club Khaki, Calypso Breeze, Sol Cabana, and Teeny Bikini ($1.50 each!!! OMG).

    Hi Michelle:

I still can't get over your sensational signature polish from Rescue Beauty.

Today's swatches are exciting. Love the bright colors and your swatches never looked so good.

Speaking of colors mu favorite is of course "cashmere cardigan" and you hit the description right on the head it looks so attractive to the eye.

The bright "Mint green Majito" and Orange "Festive Lights" add so much sparkle to the page and makes you nails "Pop out" with shine. Now, I know why you love the color green it's so amazing. I even loved "Country Club Khaki" because of what you said, "mushroom khaki" color. Would be great for a cool summer night for a nice dinner after swimming all day when you wanted a softer look, I love it.

Or maybe wearing it with matching sandals hiking through the woods, it would mathc perfectly witjh a pair of khaki shorts.

"Calypso Breeze" isn't the blue I want to wear on my toes but it's still looks ravishing and stunning on your knockout nails. I don't know how you do it, but everytime I come here I just feel so much happier before I leave.

Your fan's comments are so joyful to read and how much you are loved by all. See you next time. Have a great weekend! Bye.

Funny thing happened to me – I saw your post and decided I HAD to get Calypso Breeze. I went to Sally Beauty and was very excited to see it was on SALE! Sweet! $2.99. That gave me more money to buy more things. Also Minto Mojito and Sol Cabana were also on sale. Kind of weird!

I love all of the 3 collections.
They are very colorful and fun to have on the nails.
They are finally making some bright and fun colors.

  15. Chris says:

Would you be so kind as to swatch Festival Lights and OPI In My Back Pocket together?

  16. Kris says:

In case anyone comes along and reads this, I just wanted to add my two cents. I LOVE the mint mojito color, but I had to throw it away. I have never thrown away a bottle of nail polish before, but it stains my nails horribly even with a base coat. I will have yellow nails for a while, I’m afraid.
