News on the MATTE Front – MATTEVelvet From Zoya

This just in… Zoya is going matte for fall.

After working with hundreds of matte formulations and color options, the ZOYA color experts are happy to announce three perfect LIMITED EDITION, exclusive MATTEVELVET* shades for Fall 2009…

Loredana – gunmetal gray matte shimmer

Dovima – black matte shimmer

Posh – wine matte shimmer

Designed to appeal to a multitude of matte color trend lovers; including every metro mod, vintage stylista, retro pin-up, goth beauty, glam rocker, street chic fashionista and color junkie out there, ZOYA MATTEVELVET* shades deliver the new color of fashion. Get all of the color, none of shine with MATTEVELVET*, Zoya’s exclusive blend of matte base and subtle shimmer resulting in utterly wearable and truly stylish nail polish.

*MATTEVELVET nail color by ZOYA is not intended to be worn with a base coat, top coat or speed dryer of any kind. Due to the unique matte formulation, color is not as long-wearing as traditional nail color. A completely clean, dry nail surface yields the best results for matte nail color wear. For best results make sure to always prepare nail with ZOYA Remove + (3-in-1 nail polish remover, nail plate cleaner and new color prep.) prior to applying color.

CND has created matte looks for several designers the past few seasons and with matte lacquers from niche brands ManGlaze and KnockOut Cosmetics becoming cult hits with the nail fanatic crowd, it seems the look is finally coming to the mainstream.

Since the formual is not longwearing, I’ll be curious to see what kind lasting power it has. The MATTEVelvet collection will launch on July 1st on Zoya.com. Will you be embracing the matte look?

OoOOOOooo!!! I’m down for all three. Although, matte and shimmer? Mamas slightly confused on how that will work.

  3. Dara says:

I’m definitely excited to give these a try! As long as they last for about 4-5 days I can wear them happily. This will be interesting.

Need the gray, and can’t wait until July!

I’m not a fan of matte polish. I like my polish shiny shiny shiny!!!

Yes, pls, Zoya. I will take all three, especially that wine shade.

If there was a pink matte or a fun colour, i’d be there. I think i’ll still try one, which should I get, the red or white?

The wine colour looks really pretty. I haven’t tried matte polish in the past, but I love Zoya, so this is going to be a fun purchase!

By the way, Michelle, I love all the new features on your blog. Loads of fun articles to look forward to every week, and I love the links to related stories. Awesome job as usual!

I’m intrigued by the possibility of matte polishes from Zoya, but the idea of no base coat, no top coat and no dry drops is sort of off putting. I rarely have time to do my nails more than once a week so I have to stick with polishes and a nail routine that can go 7 days without looking all messed up when it’s time to take it off. I can stand a little tip wear but not chipping, and I worry how well these would adhere for more than a few days. Also, no dry drops would be a challenge for me as even when I use quick dry products, my nails take ages to dry. I can only hope these are pigmented enough to go on in one coat. Otherwise, the potential drying time would make these impoosible for me to wear.

I am going to be ALL over those polishes. They are a great price too!!!!!I could totally see the matte with shimmer.

I love matte polish! I used to have a top coat (I think by Orly) that mattified polish and I loved it. My concern is the “no base coat” with 3 pretty dark colors. I’d be worried about discoloration of the nail. Also, with colors that dark, I need them to last at least 4-5 days. Maybe if they had a corresponding top coat to keep them matte (like the Orly one I use to have), it would increase longevity. I’m still trying them all though!!!! :D

I can’t wait! I have 3 Knock Out polishes, but it’s getting to be an expensive hobby LOL. So I hope the Zoya ones are hot and cheaper!

  13. THERESA-ANNE says:

If my nails were matte it would be going out and buying a car that is all dull and ugly looking. My nails have to shine…shine…shine.

  14. Susanna says:

I can’t say matte has ever really appealed to me, but I like Zoya, so I’ll try the grey at least.

I can’t wait to try these, I absolutely love the matte look. I seem to have chips after a few days no matter what base/top coat combo I use, even Seche Vite! I have the most luck with CND Stickey and Poshe but even so, I tend to change my polish every few days anyway, so these will work great for me!

  16. Lani says:

I have an Orly top coat that makes anything Matte. But, I like how Seche Vite makes anything last forever.

I do a base, 2 coats of polish, Seche Vite, then the top that is matte.

I just can’t see a polish with no base working well…plus, with no top coat…

For Man Glaze I have done a base, 1 coat of MG, then Seche Vite, then 1 more coat of MG. It seems then if the top matte chips a little, at least underneath is the same color.

That being said, I will totally buy these zoyas…even though I have similar colors I could use the Orly top on…

Oh well, I like buying new polish:-)
