The ALU Archives – Piggy Polish Sub-lime

The ALU Archives focuses on older, beloved shades from the All Lacquered Up stash.

Last night I trekked out to ULTA for a little retail therapy, to check out what’s new and pick up some staple items. While I was there I happened upon a Piggy Polish summer display with a gorgeous green. Sucker for greens that I am, without even contemplating whether I own a dupe, in my basket it went.

When I got home last night I dug through my stash looking for a twin and thankfully there were none to be found but I did come across my other green Piggy Polish, Sub-lime; perfect for the Archives. So in addition to Sub-lime I’ve also got my latest green treasure to show you, after the jump!

If you’re not familiar with Piggy Polish, it’s a small boutique brand of polish that I’ve only seen carried in ULTA stores. Their site lists Nordstroms and Chatters (?) as additional retailers but I rely on UTLA to get my PP fix. Anywhoodle, Piggy Polishes are marketed as pedicure polishes since their line is filled with fun, unique shades. But you know I’m not down with that game. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. I’m not restricting anything from my tips.

Sub-Lime is a brilliant kelly green with gold micro-glitter. Looking at it makes me thirsty for a margarita. Granted a margarita that bright would probably be toxic but you know what I mean. The polish lays down with a lot of pigment, opaque with two coats though it doesn’t spread the best. I ended up with a bit of surface unevenness but nothing that a top coat can’t fix.
Now the sticker on the bottom of this next polish reads, The Rose Less Taken, but I fail to believe that’s the correct name. It just makes no sense. I haven’t been able to find any reference to the color online so I guess that’s the name we’re going with but if anyone finds out different, PLEASE let me know!

So The Rose Less Taken is a grass hued jelly polish. It applies sheer and amazingly smooth with buildable coverage. Using CND Ridge Out and three coats, I acheived bottle color with a bit of VNL (visible nail line) was showing. Though considering my detached nail beds and uber-white free edge, your level of opacity will vary.
Piggy Polish retails for $7 and you can buy the core colors online at ULTA.com but for the best selection and seasonal collections visit your local ULTA store.

Actually, on their website there is a green color listed called “The Rose Less Taken.” Looks like it’s supposed to come with a rose on the bottle.

Great shade! Makes me want lime slushies for sure! :) Chatters is a Canadian chain of hair salons, I’ve seen China Glaze, OPI, and CHI polishes being sold there. Can’t remember if I’ve seen Piggy Polishes, but at the time, I wasn’t looking for them especially either.

Jaime – Thank you so much!! Where did you see that? On the PP site or Ulta’s? I looked and couldn’t find anything. Could you post a direct link?

Gitterati – Thanks for the info. I had a feeling Chatters was either a non-US chain or something regional outside the MidWest. Lime slushies.. yum!

maybe no one wants to take a bright green rose?

green rose = rosebud = not flowering = not pretty?

    :)

  5. Denette says:

Both of these colors reminds me of the lime popsicles I used eat when I was younger. You know the ones with the two stuck together. I am ashamed to say that I don’t have any green polish in my collection. One of these might be a good place to start, no?

    Thanks for the great pics!

its just a pun for robert frost’s poem “the road not taken”. i think they combined the title with the last stanza

I shall be telling this with a sigh
    Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I–
***I took the one less traveled by,***
And that has made all the difference.

so like choosing a color that alot of people would find unusual or just plain out there is the way to go, is what i’m thinking.

but i have no idea why they use that name for a green polish.

    Second row, third color over.

I have sub-lime pink-ink of you and parting waves. Picked them up at the b2g1 sale. They come with toe rings and I passed them by a lot thinking cool…but kiddie…The Pinking of you is PERFECT!!!! Is bubble gum/barbie pink glitter…and after two possible three coats is foil like glitter and not many surface bumps and super shiny outside…is a distraction on tips when driving!!! making waves was runny thin and i didn’t care for it, but I’m impressed by them generally.

Anon – That’s a fun theory! I’d love to hear the story behind the name

Denette – No green polish? Are you mad?? Ha! There’s no shame in that. I’m sure I’m in the minority with my love of green. Maybe start with a cheap green like something from Sinful Colors or Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear so you’re not out a lot of cash if you hate it.

Anon#2 – Thanks for that. Yeah, I don’t get why they use that name for a green but whatevs not all nail polish names have to make sense, I guess. :)

Blackkattats – THANK YOU! This is so weird. I went to the site without using a www. before the name and the color chart is TOTALLY different. Bizarro.

Foil like glitter? You’re making me go all the way back to ULTA aren’t you? I foresee a pit stop this weekend.

You’re welcome! I saw it on the website: http://www.piggypolish.com/. They have all their swatches: http://www.piggypolish.com/colors.html

And it’s the very first, distinctly green shade. I’m just as surprised as you are! (I still don’t think it’s a very good name.)

  11. blackkattats says:

Maybe the rose apple tree is their reference? Why yes, a rose apple tree. Here is a link to a picture of it, although not a lime-y color.

(too much time on my hands)

  12. Daniele says:

I definitely think it’s from the Robert Frost poem… it’s the first thing that popped into my head (and the only thing that makes even a little bit of sense, right?). It’s not even the same as in the poem, but I guess “The rose less traveled” would have made even less sense. ;)

  13. Liz says:

This an old post but I think I get the name. I' think it has to do with the robert frost poem, but also with the saying "rose among thorns". No one wants the thorns of a rose, the green part. The green thorns in a rose are the part of the rose less taken.
