Chanel Celestial Lights Starring Cosmic Violine

Recalling Mademoiselle Chanel’s fascination with the constellations, LUMIÈRES CÉLESTES — eight exquisite new shades of LÈVRES SCINTILLANTES Glossimer — brings a brilliant reflection of light to the lips. Ranging from a shimmering ruby glow to the sparkle of pink diamonds, the effects are as mesmerizing as a star-filled sky.

Ever since I caught wind of Chanel’s Celestial Lights collection, I’ve been waiting with bated breath to cover my tips in Cosmic Violine. As far as I’m concerned, there aren’t enough fun brown family shades on the market so hearing that they were coming out with a “brown copper” lacquer to accompany their eight new Glossimer shades, all I could think was “SIGN ME UP!” Of course, it did not disappoint. Check out my swatches along with the rest of the Celestial Lights Le Vernis lacquers after the jump!

In addition to Cosmic Violine, Chanel is introducing a new pink for summer, Mica Rose, repromoting permanent shade Allegoria and bringing back Dazzling (originally intro’d with Holiday 2007). With one minor exception (noted below) all the shades applied like a dream, smooth and even. They are all shown without top coat, over a ridgefilling base.

Cosmic Violine is a micro-glitter packed, red-based brown. It’s very rich, even more so in person, and the glitter reminds me of the Moscow collection. Cosmic Violine could be the lighter, browner sister of Feu De Russie. What I love is that even though this type of shade seems more suited to fall or winter, I totally want to rock it on my toes for summer. It truly is the standout shade of this collection. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Mica Rose is the cool toned alternative to last summer’s Flamingo, one of my all time fave pinks. Flamingo is a warm sparkly pink while Mica Rose is more of a true pink with a slight leaning towards lilac. It’s on the semi-sheer side so I needed three coats to make it opaque. Though with the majority of my pink collection consisting of warmer hues, I’ll happily add Mica Rose to my perm stash.

Allegoria is milky beige creme that is part of the permanent Chanel Le Vernis lineup. It’s a staple type shade but not really “me” and since my bottle was pretty streaky, requiring three coats (four on my pinky), for me, it’s not a keeper.

Dazzling is a true red creme and with all the celebrity red tip sightings these past few months, it only makes sense to bring this baby back for summer. You have no idea how many red creme pedicures I saw on the cruise so if you want to jump on that bandwagon, Dazzling is a good place to start.
The Celestial Lights collection officially launches in May though I believe people have already started finding the polishes at their local Chanel counters. Le Vernis lacquers retail for $23/ea and can be purchased online from Chanel.com in addition to department and specialty store Chanel counters.

So who’s planning to run out and grab a bottle of Cosmic Violine? Are the other shades striking your fancy?

Ugh, I just bought an old bottle of Dazzling on ebay! *facepalm*

Cosmic Violine looks fabulous, even prettier than Haute Chocolat!

  2. Julia says:

Thank you for the great swatches, as always! I definitely plan on getting Cosmic Violine, not sure about Mica Rose though. I missed out on Flamingo last year, and I think I like it better since it seems more pigmented. Mica Rose is still really pretty though!

  3. Alisonmidd says:

I was so excited to see cosmic violine since I heard about it, but after seeing your swatches I’m a little disappointed as brown shades just don’t suit me. i was hoping it was going to be a little more on the purple side. Don’t get me wrong I think it’s a stunning polish but I know it wouldn’t work with my skintone.
Mica Rose is pretty but not unique enough for me to purchase, in this case I prefer last years flamingo.

    Thanks for the great swatches!

  4. HeidiG says:

Violine totally reminds me of the colors I start to crave every August, when I am tired of the summer shades and am ready for Fall. Doubt it will around then, though…

  5. The Asian Girl says:

What’s another close relative for Cosmic Violine? I already own the Moscou collection; is it similar to Haute Chocolat in terms of coloring? I found Haute Chocolat too light for my skintone. I also have Allegoria which is a streaky nightmare for me.

  6. rmcandlelight says:

Love cosmic violine. I will be getting it. Could Mica rose be a dupe for pink satin?

  7. moeysullivan says:

Cosmic Violine would go perfectly with my brown and ice-blue swimsuit and I am going to suck it up and buy my first Chanel. I have been waiting for the right brown (no orange; no, um, diaper colors) and I think this is it. Thanks so much for getting the information out there!

Hi. I tried on the polishes already but have not cave on them. Cosmic Violine is beautiful. Thanks for comparing Mica Rose with Flamingo. I have Flamingo and it is my favourite pink, but the polish has thicken with about a third left and I cannot apply it on my nails at all. Is Mica Rose as thick as Flamingo?

  9. gejba says:

I just loveee Cosmic Violin. This is definitely love at first sight.
    Thx for the great swatches.

  10. Grammy K says:

I was wondering where I can buy Cosmic Violine, I checked Nordstrom and Chanel website and didn’t see the color there. Help?

  11. KatJobson says:

I tried to find Cosmic Violine on line at Nordstrom and Chanel, do you know where I can purchase it?

  12. CincyFan says:

MoLo – Oh no! I hope you didn’t spend a fortune on it. Ebay scalpers!

Julia – Yeah, Flamingo is more pigmented and one of my fave pinks ever. It suits my skintone more.

Alisonmidd – Sorry to disappoint. If you can find it, pick up NYC Glossies Cognac, it’s a slightly darker more purple/berry based version.

HeidiG – You should definitely pick it up when it launches because it will most likely be gone by August.

The Asian Girl – I don’t know that there is a close relative but I’ll search for one. It’s not as brown as Haute Chocolat.

RMCandlelight – I don’t have Pink Satin so I can’t compare them, sorry.

MoeySullivan – You’re welcome! I’m sure it will look fab with your swimsuit, what a great color combo.

  13. CincyFan says:

Anon – Mica Rose is definitely thinner but that’s because it’s more sheer. Though who knows what it will look like after a year, you know?

Gejba – You’re welcome. Glad you like them

KatJobson – Like I mentioned in the post, the colors don’t officially launch until May. Some counters are already selling them but not all. You do read my posts, right? ;)

  14. Denette says:

I agree, Cosmic Violine is beautiful and would be a great summer pedi color!

I just checked your previous post on Flamingo and I LOVE it!! Have you come across any dupes for it? (Or something sort of close)?

  15. CincyFan says:

Denette – You know I haven’t come across any dupes but I haven’t searched well either. I’ll rifle through my stash this weekend and post if I find something.

  16. Denette says:

Oh, that would be great! Thank you! I will keep my fingers crossed – I hope you find something!

  17. Jennifer A. says:

Okay this is a bit random, but do you know what the numbers on the Chanel bottles mean? Sometimes the new collections have numbers in order and sometimes they are completely random. It’s stupid, but it bugs me!

  18. Pumps and Gloss says:

I am liking that Mica Rose

  19. Wannietta says:

I'm not really a fan of the browns but Cosmic Violine might make me a convert!

  20. bargainbeautyblog says:

I SO want Cosmic Violine, but I cannot justify the price :( Chanel polish is beautiful though!

  21. LISA says:

Chanel is the diva of polishes. Love them all!!! Violine sounds like fall, can't wait.
