Help Me Choose… My Vacay Combo

It’s vacation time kids and I’m so looking forward to some rest and relaxation. The boyfriend and I head south on Saturday for an 8-day Caribbean cruise. The only issue is it’s been so long since we’ve been anywhere tropical that I can’t settle on my mani/pedi look for the week so I need your help!

You see, last year we went to the Finger Lakes for a week of wine tasting which was fun but definitely not warm. The year before that we visited friends in Seattle. Again, a great time but there was barely a drop of sun. So I want to take full advantage of the light and wear something sparkly on my toes. Though because we have two formal night dinners on the cruise, I’d prefer something a little less crazy town on my tips.

I’ve been milling some ideas in my head. I even asked my Twitter followers for some suggestions and put my faves together for you to vote on. See the contenders after the jump!

The winter China Glaze Bahama Blues collection inspired me to want some kind of blue combo but I’m also LOVING purples right now too. A variation of greens/teals would be fun and orange always looks great with a faux-glow. As you can see, I’m all over the place so put me out of my misery and let me know what you think.

china glaze, china glaze orange marmalade, cnd kumquat dahlia, lippmann nefertitiessie sag harbor, china glaze blue paradiseessie greenport, sally hansen tracy reese honeydewsally hansen tracy reese night hydrangea, china glaze white-kwik-silvrbarielle sneak a peek, china glaze grape juice china glaze, caribbean blue, bermuda breakaway
Vote now for your favorite color combination or suggest something different in the comments. Thanks in advance for your help. I will be posting my final choice before we set sail.

Edited to add an FYI: I plan to redo my tips on the trip. I’m not crazy enough to attempt 8 days without a change. You all should know me better than that. Ha!

While I’m normally all about the blues, the Essie stuff is too dusty for the intense light of the tropics! There is seriously something about that lattitude. The orange will pop on your toes, for sure.

  2. Eunice says:

I think combo #5 would be nice….the purple will make a pop on your toes and the white will be just perfect for the tips…

  3. Lina-Elvira says:

Combo no 1 cause they both makes your skin tone look amazing!! :) Hoping you will have a fantastic and relaxing time!

  4. silverin says:

I picked combo three, because we all know how much you like the greens! But combo six is a serious Caribbean mani-pedi!

  5. Emily says:

I’m gonna combine two. I like Lipmann Nerfeti (sorry if I didn’t spell it right) on your tips and SH Night Hydrandya (sorry if I didn;t spell it right, again) for your toes. The tip colour is formal, and the toe colour will be cool in water!

    Good luck!

  6. Breezy says:

#1 or #5 is great! have fun!

  7. RedHeDD says:

Combo: ChG Grape Juice tips and
    SH Night Hydrangea toes

    I’m all about purples lately

  8. The Glitterati says:

Close call, but I love love love combo 4! White Kwik Silvr is fun enough for a boat-side lounge, but still elegant enough for formals. Combo 5 is a close 2nd for the same reason, though I like White Kwik Silvr a bit more.

Combo 2 is very nice as well, but if it were me I’d probably swap them and use Sag Harbor on the toes. I do agree with the comment that it’s a bit muted (esp. for a fun pedi) but maybe you could layer a sheer shimmer or glitter over it…

Have loads of fun and enjoy the warmth!!

  9. Jammies says:

Definitely Combo #1. Wish I were going on a cruise myself!

  10. Banana says:

I like Combo #6 but #1 is nice too (just the oranges though). When I went to Cuba I did ChG Pink Rox-E on tips and CC Blue Light on toes.

  11. Kate says:

it’s an 8 day cruise, which means you should wear each of your 4 favorite combos for 2 days each! I mean really, do you want to wear the same polish for 8 days straight?!?! plus that will allow for more funky finger colors on the days when you don’t have formal dinners!

  12. garnetstorm says:

No. 1 – it’s exactly what I would have suggested, but I would probably reverse the nails and toes. I think an orange or coral are in line with current trends and the gold is a great coordinating color. Have a great time.

  13. Lisa says:

I’d worry about finger polish chipping after being in the water/humidity/sans touchup for a week, so my vote was for #4, a finger color that won’t be too noticable if it chips, plus a fabulous purple toe color!

  14. ashleydanielle4 says:

i’m no help because i went on a 4 day vacay to orlando in october and i brought 3 bottles of polish to change based on the day.haha.

My Private Jet for halloween horror nights and halloween.
Brights Power for the Florida Gator game.
Dating a Royal for the next day.

  15. Anonymous says:

I live in the tropics and salt water and/or chlorine is hell on nail polish – metallics seem to fare especially poorly. So while I love number 1, I’m gonna have to go with number 4!

Also – someone else mentioned it – but I always feel ‘dusty’ shades really aren’t as attractive under the bright sun – they end up looking dull.

  16. Anonymous says:

I think combo six is appropriate!

  17. Stef says:

I chose number six, because I love love love the blues. But if you’re unsure about them, what about the ChG Quicksilver on the tips and the orange on the toes? Still, I’d go blue. Before I even looked at the swatches I was thinking, “Light blue on the tips, dark blue on the toes!”

  18. Shojo Flash says:

I’m a huge sucker for green, even tealy green like the ones in #3! Go with that! Plus it matches the colour of the water, that really nice teal bluey green!

  19. dicey1 says:

#6 for sure. Pastels totally “wash out” in the bright sun of the tropics, dusty colors go “blah”. Go bright or vibrant, you’ll LOVE it!
    HAVE A BLAST…so jealous.

  20. NailPolishNovice says:

I say combo 3 would be best for a warm Caribbean cruise. Not only do the names invoke images of tropical islands, but the green colors scream mermaid to me. And who wouldn’t want to be a mermaid in the Caribbean? =)

  21. Orli says:

    I voted #1 but I like #5 too.

  22. Penny says:

I think #1 and #4 are great! But for Carribean, COLOUR COLOUR AND MORE COLOUR! So I voted #1. But #4 cuts a close second!

If it were me I would do #1 and then #4 while on cruise. 8 days without changing polish? You’ve got to be kidding!

    :) Have a blast!

  23. Tanya says:

I voted for #1 and I really think you should use Nefertiti on the tips. That way it’s glam and “tame” enough for the formal nights, yet it’s so sparkly it’ll be wonderful in the sunlight.

  24. Zoe W. Scott says:

#3 all the way! The colors look gorgeous on your skin!

  25. Amanda says:

I voted for #4 since I think it will go with the most stuff. But I love the oranges/corals in general for tropical, and both blues in #6 as to die for (that would be a close second). But I would like to know what color your formal dresses are! that might influence my vote. :-)
