Exclusive Preview – Lippmann & Rodarte’s Marquee Moon

I remember
how the darkness doubled
I recall
lightning struck itself.
I was listening
listening to the rain
I was hearing
hearing something else.

Life in the hive puckered up my night,
the kiss of death, the embrace of life.
There I stand neath the Marquee Moon Just waiting,
Hesitating…
I ain’t waiting
-”Marquee Moon” lyrics by Tom Verlaine

One of the highlights of NYFW was getting to meet Deborah Lippmann. She’s such a force in the nail industry with her amazing polish line, roster of celebrity clients and editorial work. Though what totally floored me was that she was just as excited to meet me as I was to meet her. I’m not gonna lie, I was totally star struck.

We chatted the day before she revealed her second designer collaboration, Marquee Moon. This time around Deborah worked with the ladies behind Rodarte, sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy. As a tease she stated that the color would be, “really really modern. Sort of space age.” That her fall and winter colors will be “out of the ballpark.” Well if Marquee Moon is an indication of what’s to come, we’re in for some truly unique polishes.

I have an exclusive preview of the shade to share with you. As you can see, the sequins she added to the gunmetal base look like tiny mirrors on the nail. Very futuristic.

Of course a full review and additional details are in the works. According to Nylon Magazine, the shade launches in June.

Holy crap! That’s awesome! I haven’t seen it on the nails yet. Very very cool! Sing me up for a bottle or two!

I love the hexagon shape of the sequins. Makes me think of honeycomb, futuristic honeycomb. :)

  3. Scrangie says:

LOVE. IT. I’ve never seen anything like it!

I love how it looks like there’s a giant hand picking up the model. Or is it a pair of mini-models being set down on a table? Maybe the model has a giant hand like that one Foo Fighters video.

Styrch – It’s definitely different. At least compared to what’s in my stash.

TarotByDiana – Oh great reference. I like it!

Scrangie – I agree, so unique. Oh and that’s just my amateur photoshopping skills so I could show a close up of the nails but it does look like the hand is grabbing her. Too funny!

OMG, I adore it! I’m wearing all three new colors from Rescue right now (I got them today and had to try all three). I’m so into anything new. The rescue colors are fantastic, thanks Michelle. I can’t wait to see this one either!

I think I love this! Even if I didn’t I’d probably still get it based solely on the fact that I love Rodarte! Those girls are amazing and so are their clothes and overall aesthetic. The sequins are the only thing making the polish unique though. Just wondering, but were you planning on reviewing RBL’s new spring polishes? I ask because I’ve really been going back and forth on them and just can’t seem to decide if I still want them or not. I’ve seen some other sites swatches and they haven’t overly impressed me, but the swatches weren’t as good as yours always are either. They look so beautiful in the bottle. Your swatches/reviews almost always determine my final decision as to whether or not I buy a polish. So should I expect a RBL Spring review anytime soon?

Not a fan of silver nail polish, but Rodarte + Television reference is something I can’t resist.

I COULDN’t figure out that picture for the longest time. It didn’t look like a picture of a picture, but how did you get that huge hand there?! LOL I finally got it after like 10 mins :( *is dumb*
I think those mirror things are going to fall off or get picked off really quickly on the nail.

  12. Jammies says:

To me, the hexagons look like gears, which makes it the perfect steampunk polish. I’ll need at least 2.

I love the concept of sequins/hexagonal shaped glitter! The color is awesome, too! I just wonder if the glitter will be a PITB to apply like the heart glitter of various brands that did Valentine’s Day LE colors.
