What’s On Your Nails? is a new series focusing on my fellow beauty bloggers and industry insiders, their favorite nail polish and other hot nail topics.

For the first What’s On Your Nails? I’m happy to feature my Blogging BFF, Jamie Sanders from The Beauty of Life. I met Jamie a year ago in New York during Fashion Week. We had only corresponded briefly through email yet somehow I randomly picked her out in a crowd at the tents. We weren’t planning to meet up. I was just wandering aimlessly, looking for anyone I knew and there she was. Turns out Jamie is a former Clevelander, raised only five minutes from where I’m living now. Small world, no?

Well after that meeting, we instantly bonded and became fast friends. In fact, we even finish each others’ sentences like some new age version of the Patty Duke Show (I was a Nick At Nite addict). It’s a friendship that I’m so so grateful for. Jamie is a true beauty fanatic, an uber-talented writer and one of the most fun people I’ve met. Seriously, if you aren’t reading her blog already, you’re truly missing out. Regular features like Wallet Friendly Wednesdays and Trend Filled Thursdays are must reads.

To learn more about Jamie, see a pic of her favorite nail polish (and her ADORABLE roommate) and discover which brand is currently draining her wallet, click to read more.

Introduce yourself to the ALU readers. Tell us a little about your blog.
I am a self-professed beauty junkie! From a very young age, I absolutely adored playing with my mom’s makeup and getting huge makeup palettes from the drugstore for my birthday each year. I am also the Associate Beauty Editor for Teen Scene Magazine, the Fashion & Beauty Editor for StyleBakery Teen and I work full-time as the Copywriter for a major fashion company. (Yes, I like to keep myself busy!)

Why is Sephora by OPI Metro Chic your favorite?
Truth be told, I have many favorites! But this one definitely makes the list for its versatility. It changes based on the light—sometimes it’s purple, sometimes it’s mauve, sometimes it’s grey, sometimes it’s brown (get the picture?). I really like that it matches a wide variety of the outfits in my closet and that I just always feel, well, chic when I wear it!

What is on your tips and toes right now?
On my toes: Chanel Shanghai Red
On my tips: OPI Tickle My France-Y (another favorite!)

Do you consider nail polish a beauty necessity or accessory? Why?
Definitely a necessity. It can punch up your entire look and just make you feel good about yourself. Whenever my nails are done, I just feel a lot happier and more pulled together.

How many bottles of nail polish do you own?
I honestly don’t know. At least 150! Recently I’ve been on a streak of buying Chanel nail polishes. I figure I might not be able to afford the bags, but the polish is always in my budget. So I’m now an avid collector and have at least 20 Chanel polishes in my arsenal!

How often do you change your nail polish?
I change my tips on a weekly basis. My toes are changed bi-weekly.

Do you have a favorite nail treatment you think my readers should know about? Why is it so fab?
Seche Ridge-Filling Base Coat and Seche Vite, without a doubt! And I can credit my fabulous friend Michelle (that’s me!) for turning me on to both of them. My polish stays for days without chipping, my nails look and feel super-smooth, and the color stays glossy. What more could you ask for—especially since they both retail for under $6?

What do you think will be the big nail trend for spring?
Hmmm. I have a feeling grey is going to stick around for awhile. I also think we’re going to see some darker colors like purple and maroon emerging, if the celebrities on the red carpet have anything to do with it!

What nail trend do you wish would go away?
Black nail polish. I’m not into the goth thing, and I just don’t really think this color looks good on anyone.

What is the biggest nail faux pas that women make?
Not applying a base and top coat. It’s so easy, and it protects your nails and polish, and so many women skip these simple steps! I admit I used to be guilty of not applying a base coat (though I’ve always applied a top coat) and wondered why my nails turned orange or the polish chipped so quickly. I’ve tried to convert as many women as possible to these quick and easy steps!

Thanks for sharing Jamie and please check out The Beauty of Life to keep up to date on her latest beauty finds.

Love this new feature and Jamie is the perfect person to start out; she’s a doll! :)

Great interview – and good info too, but I do disagree with Jamie on one thing; black nail polish is still a pretty decent color for males. I’ve tried basic black and also like the black variations (OPI – My Private Jet and Midnight In Moscow, etc.) as well as Man Glaze matte finish black.
I agree with Jamie that black only really works on some women (esp on toes), but it’s not for everyone.

I wonder, we do not have Seche Vite out here. But we have China Glaze top and base coat. Are they good?
Can Malava or Sally Hansen also work?
Of course we have OPI – but it is the most expensive.
I am also interested in thiner. What can be alternative for Seche Vite thiner?
