Fanatic Feedback – Storage Solutions
A few weeks back I got you to share your “number” with the group. Now the question is, what do you do with all those bottles?
You’ve seen my polish room and the storage cabinet I use (below) but now I’ve outgrown it. So I’m looking for a whole new system or expansion method and I’d love to know what you’re using.
Share your favorite containers, cabinets, shelves, etc in the comments. If you could link to pics or e-tailers where I can buy, that would be great. I look forward to seeing all your creative solutions.

The ALU Archives – Zoya Yasmeen
 The ALU Archives focuses on older, beloved shades from the All Lacquered Up stash.
Whenever I’m asked for a purple recommendation, Zoya Yasmeen is always at the top of my list. In a lot of ways, it’s the perfect purple shimmer. Usually when you add gold or reddish sparkle to a cool toned shade, the result is overly warm. Yasmeen avoids that pitfall. The base shade is a deep blackened plum that falls so far on the cool side of purple that the overall shade doesn’t end up too red-grape. If you love purple, this is not one to miss. It’s extremely unique, beyond gorgeous and definitely a “must have.” |

ALU at NYFW – Backstage at Thakoon
 Backstage at Thakoon was a madhouse. We all played the hurry up and wait game to get our interviews in but it was worth it. The designer’s “it” factor has been on the rise after dressing the First Lady for the Democratic National Convention last year so it’s no wonder. His designs brought Anna Wintour, Nina Garcia and Amanda Peet down to the Meatpacking district to check out the line.
Of course, CND was on the scene with another fab custom tip design. We’re talking french-inspired moon manicures. |
The base color is a custom blend CND is calling “Beige Kiss” with Voodoo hand painted on top. That’s right, I said hand painted. Instead of taking the easy way out with an airbrusher, Kristina Baune and Shelena Robinson spent 6-7 hours at the CND production suite to create all the tips. Beige Kiss Recipe: Really strong eyebrows were paired with a soft, smudgy brown/black eye. Skin was left dewy (Sheer Glow foundation) with warm coral blush (Gilda) and muted, moisturized lips. No mascara. Strong yet soft and pretty. Eugene Souleiman created the hair which was all sleek, smooth and shiny in the front, messily pulled up in the back. After creating a deep side part, the hair was gathered into low side pony. He then teased, twisted and pinned it low on the back of the head, roughing it up to give the look texture.
CND’s Wanda Ruiz told me that the look they were going for was “Late 30s, early 40s when ladies were very glamourous.” They brought the look up to date with a more three dimensional, architectural look using the deep black as contrast.

6 drops of Hot Pop Yellow
The makeup look was created by Diane Kendal for NARS. She was given the direction, “40s, 80s and a little bit rock n roll,” so her focus went straight to the eyes. Diane believes in the adage that you focus on one feature, eyes or lips, so for Thakoon it was all about the eyes.

“What’s On Your Nails?” with Amber from Beauty Blogging Junkie
 What’s On Your Nails? is a series focusing on my fellow beauty bloggers and industry insiders, their favorite nail polish and other hot nail topics.
If it wasn’t for the subject of this week’s What’s On Your Nails?, words like totes, hilar, cra and perf would have never entered my vernacular. In fact, when I bring up her name the boyfriend refers to her as, “the Amber that’s so hilar it’s ridic.” That’s right kids, I’m referring to the one and only Amber Katz of Beauty Blogging Junkie. Amber cracks me up like no one else. Her quick wit and skill for turning out a magazine ready beauty quote makes her one of my favorite beauty bloggers to see backstage at fashion shows. When we met at a dinner last February I immediately noticed her beyond fabulous blonde mane and we clicked over our shared hair passion. I could talk hair with her for hours. It’s the way Amber mixes her love of all things 80s, Lost and most importantly beauty into Beauty Blogging Junkie that makes it one of my daily must reads. If you aren’t already hooked, you soon will be. Read on to see what shade she scours ebay to keep in her stash, what top coat she thinks is “THE BEST” and the nail faux pas that we both agree needs to go AWAY! |
