High Tech Nail Art with Barbie b-nails

So I’m not really one for the whole nail art thing but this is AH-MAZING! Seriously, I’m all giddy over the idea. The folks at TalkingShopping.com went to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Vegas and discovered this gem from Mattel and Barbie.

What is it that I’m so excited about? Barbie b-nails, an inkjet printer that applies fun, girly nail art like the Barbie logo. Using a special non-toxic ink, designs are printed on the nail and protected with a special top coat.

Being that b-nails is a Barbie product, it will undoubtedly be marketed to little girls but as a long time Barbie fanatic, that won’t stop me from wanting one of my own.

To see how it works, check out video from the TalkingShopping.com team after the jump.

Look at some of the cool designs it can create.

Now this isn’t the first time I’ve heard of this type of technology, it’s just the first time it’s being made available to the everyday consumer. The Imaginail NailJet Pro is a similar product marketed to nail and beauty industry professionals. While Mattel hasn’t released a retail price for b-nails but I imagine it will be less than the Imaginail, which retails for thousands.

So what do we think? Fun for all or just kids?

Hmm it’s a cool idea for sure, but I’m just not into Barbie at this stage of my life LOL! I think it could be cool if they had some abstract patterns or symbols though.

i love it!!! i like how there’s random designs and not just all barbie ones. and the fact that you can upload more is awesome. i hope no one does their BF’s face though, that’d be incredibly tacky [imo]!

OMG that is soooooo cool!! I am so not into nail art but it is still the coolest thing ever. I can’t believe how it prints directly on to the nail! Wonder how much it is going to cost?! As much as I dislike nail art for me personally I would totally get this for the novelty if it is semi-affordable.

I was at CES and saw this in action–what a cool idea. If you could upload your own designs and not just use the Barbie ones, this would be an awesome impulse beauty buy.

I am so getting one! Of course I’ll use my 5 year old, girly-girl daughter as an excuse! ;-)

amazing. the promo pic on your site with the pink pattern maybe wasnt the best example… but IMAGINE applying whatever you wanted to your nails!!! *dies* i’m sure its nowhere near as easy as it seems in the promo, but just the notion of it…. WOW! too much!!

It reminds me of what Jane Jetson used to do her nails!

I’m not really a fan of nail art either, but I think it’s perfectly acceptable for little girls. Fun idea :)

Little baby steps towards getting injet nail printers out as a consumer item – first Barbie to pave the way, then hopefully in a few years or so we’ll have ones that we can use our own art with. :D

this is nothing new… they’ve had that in asia for quite some time now, though not as cool-looking as that and probably not as good quality haha

  21. stephen reid says:

I was at the show looking at these and although the printer looks cool the quality of the prints is not nearly as good as what’s currently available from http://www.nilonails.com or some of the other established nail printer companies here in the US. it’s the equivalent of the easy bake oven. fun and yummm.

  22. Shadowgirl says:

I wish you could use black… I have it allredy but adding shades and diffrent nail shapes would be a sweet patch. Oh and I sooo wish there was like texting style smilys! One more thing, I had my finger a bit too high and when it slided into please to get redy to print- WHAM! Owowowowow! Oh noes my snowman is blurry…!
