Celebrity Nail Watch 1-9-09

Let’s see what’s happening this week in the world of celebrity nails

Red seems to be the red carpet color of the week for it popped up on numerous celebs, including Anne Hathaway at the Bride Wars premiere. I would bet that as a Lancome spokesperson, she’s probably wearing their Refined Red lacquer.

Wednesday night’s People’s Choice Awards was a veritable fiesta of crimson tips.

Jennie Garth summoned her inner screen siren with bold red lips to match her maroon colored nails. Is she channeling Mad Men or what? Love it! Try OPI Malaga Wine to replicate the look.

One of my fave actresses, Reese Witherspoon, donned a true red creme on her short well-manicured tips. I don’t know why but seeing any kind of color on Reese’s nails amazes me. She just seems so natural and effortless. Like getting a manicure is the last thing on her mind.

To get the look at home, China Glaze China Rouge is a good dupe.

I’m sorry but as much as I loved AnnaLynne McCord‘s crazy ass character on Nip/Tuck and as much as I enjoy the guilty pleasure of her new show, 90210, every time I see her I can’t help but hear the Fug Girls calling her “drunkface” in my head. You’d think someone would have told her by now to stop posing like she’s been on a two day bender. She’s gorg but she looks much more “with it” smiling.

AnnaLynne’s red is bolder than the others we’ve seen. A bit brighter. Check out Rescue Beauty Lounge Chinoise.

The red trend continued last night at the Critic’s Choice Awards, hosted by VH1.

Now that she’s gotten herself out of Marilyn Manson’s loony clutches, Evan Rachel Wood has busted out of her gloomy, drab shell to look all glowing and healthy again. Her carmine tips add a nice pop to her ensemble. Misa Chrysler Red would certainly fit the bill.

Of course red wasn’t the only game in town. There were some other standout shades making an appearance.

American Idol winner, the uber-adorable Jordin Sparks, went for the metallic trend to compliment her shiny blue dress. I suggest Lippmann Collection Nefertiti.
Of the new 90210 class, Jessica Stroup is definitely my fave. The girl is stunning yet her character is relatively down-to-earth and oblivious to her own beauty.

For the red carpet, she chose a deep muted grape that works well with her Herve Leger dress and smokey eyes. Probably my fave nail look of the week. The dress is a “meh” but the rest is stunning. I’d try SpaRitual Mood.

Now even though I’m not the biggest cheerleader when it comes to wearing nude nails, for Brooke Burke it was the right choice. With so many dark colors going on (dress, hair, bag), the lighter nail and glossy, nude lip is a nice contrast. The classic (i.e. old formula) OPI Bubble Bath would be perfect for this look.

Ah, I’m a sucker for red nailpolish. I’m so glad to see that Essie 24k nailpolish is a lovely deep red with gold flecks. Let’s see what the Golden Globes will hold…

Could also do OPI’s “Kangarooby” — wearing it right now and loving it. Men seem weak for it too, I was surprised :D

Hi there – did you mention "old formula" Bubble Bath by OPI? I thought something changed! Can you explain what you know about this? And is there a colour available now that is like the old version? I moved onto OPI Matched Luggage but it's not quite the same…
