butter LONDON Holiday and Friends & Family Discount

I first discovered butter LONDON almost two years ago during a trip to Seattle with the boyfriend. At a time when emerald green polish wasn’t easy to come by I was initially drawn in by the beyond stunning Thames but it was the 3 Free formula that made me a bL fan.

Since that time the bottle shape has changed and I’m not gonna lie, I’m not its biggest fan. While the new look is sleek and stylish, the cap drives me batty. It takes three full turns to remove and its size makes it difficult to line up the threads when closing. It’s actually not that awkward to hold, at least not for me but, I prefer the older bottle style; square with slightly rounded edges and more product (.36 oz vs. .3 oz).

For Holiday 2008, butter LONDON is offering three gift sets for the bL fanatic in your lifestyle. Holiday Lacquer Duo #1 comes with Come To Bed Red and Diamond Geezer and Holiday Lacquer Duo #2 includes The Full Monty and Chancer. Both sets are packaged with a bL nail file and retail for $20 (a $24 value). There is also the Christmas Cuticle Miracle Kit with Melt Away cuticle remover and Handbag Holiday cuticle oil. This set retails for $25 (a $35 value).

I had the opportunity to test out the Holiday Lacquer Duo #2, a sparkly twin set of ruby and gold. The Full Monty, a warm metallic, and Chancer, a glitter packed red jelly, are heavily pigmented yet apply smooth and even. It’s funny, our office Christmas tree is decorated solely in red and gold. This duo made me immediately think of it.

The Full Monty
“British slang for being naked”

Chancer (with top coat)
“Brit slang for someone who is sleazy and fake, or tries to pick up women who are out of his league”

In looking for color twins, the only obvious comparison was China Glaze Ruby Pumps vs. Chancer. I couldn’t find any sisters for The Full Monty though I don’t own a ton of gold polish. I will say that if you have Ruby Pumps and love it, you probably don’t need Chancer even though it is a bit darker and more pigmented (requiring only two coats to RP’s typical three). Both shades have the same fire and sparkle once top coat is applied though without, they dry matte and slightly bumpy.

butter LONDON 3 Free nail lacquers retail for $12 and are available for purchase on butterLONDON.com or at butter LONDON nail kiosks in the SeaTac, Sacramento and Dulles airports.

butter LONDON is offering a Friends & Family 20% Off discount on all online purchases from now through December 9th. Enter promo code FF2009BL at checkout.

So who’s going to partake in the sale? Have you tried bL polish before? Any favorite shades you’d recommend?

I've been wanting to try Butter London and I think I'll use this F&F Sale to do it! Thanks, ALU!!

  2. Shryh says:

I wanted so very badly to love Butter London if not just for their saucy names, but the bottle was a nightmare. The neck of the bottle got gloppy and icky very quickly, and not being able to close the bottle properly drove me up the wall. I do love the two colours I own and the brush works well with my nail shape. I’ll wait for them to improve the bottle before buying any more BL polishes.

Yeah, I too wanted to really like Butter London, but with the bad bottle shape, the caps that break [2 out of 5 were cracked when I received them, another broke just from me trying to open the polish], and the really slow shipping speed for the cost– I am not a fan. The colors are fun, but the quality doesn’t seem to justify the cost for me.

What’s going on with all FF sales lately? I don’t remember this many the previous years. Probably going to pass. I already picked up what I wanted in the only BL salon I have ever seen- in the Dallas Airport.

The rectangle top can pop off, similarly to Chanel.

  6. Mackenzie says:

OK, I love Chancer. I’ve had a few bL colors in the past and no real issues with the bottle. I’ll definitely pick these up.

By the way, I know you hear this a lot, but your nails are amazing. I’m still fairly new to reading your blog and every swatch makes me jealous. Thanks for all the great posts.

GablesGirl – You're welcome. Happy Shopping! What colors are you going to get?

Shryh – I hear ya, the caps are a pain but I agree, the brush shape is nice. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for a new shape but we can hope. :)

Firepail – Thanks for the feedback. I didn't have any broken caps but I did read about slow shipping during the Turn In Your Toxins special. Though that tends to happen with any e-tailer during a sale or promotion.

Smirfy – I know! I was just saying that to a friend the other day. The F&F discounts are running rampant. Brands that have NEVER given discounts are suddenly rolling out the 20% off. Crazy!

There's a bL in Dallas? Cool! What colors did you get?

Anon – I just checked all my bottles, none of them have caps that come off (ie Chanel & Dior). Maybe yours is broken or you're thinking of another brand.

Mackenzie – You are too sweet. Thank you! I think my nails are terrible because they split, peel and break so easily. Wearing polish and strengthening products is my only defense. What bL colors do you have? Which is your fave?

  8. Mackenzie says:

I have Prince’s Plums and of course Come to Bed Red, but my real guilty pleasure is Dolly Bird. I don’t know what it is about that color, but it makes me fearless. I think anyone that can wear Barbi pink on their tips for a week in the real world can pull off anything.

  9. CincyFan says:

Mackenzie – The way you describe Dolly Bird makes me really want to wear it. A polish that makes you feel fearless? That’s worth the price right there. :D

  10. stubby says:

I seriously need to stop buying polishes! My husband thinks I’m sick and I feel guilty buying more and more! Does that happen to anyone besides me?

I think i’m going to begin an
    NP Anonymous group!

  11. Park Avenue says:

The dried out/matte look of "Ruby Pumps" w/o a top coat is so true! I polished my nails in RP last night & was disappointed at the dullness, but with a top coat, it's gorgeous!

  12. Mackenzie says:

Michelle – have you worn it yet? If not, you should. If anyone can pull it off, you can. I keep my nails pretty short so it’s not over the top, and yes, fearless. It’s one of those polishes that says, “look at me and drink in the confidence.”

  13. CincyFan says:

Stubby – I’m sure if you showed your hubby pics of my polish room, he would stop complaining. LOL I used to feel guilty, now I just say it’s all in the name of reasearch!

Park Avenue – that’s why I show most glitters with top coat. Since most people always wear top coat, it seems unfair to a gorgeous polish like Ruby Pumps to show it without.

Mackenzie – I don’t own Dolly Bird but it’s on my “to buy” list. My word, I love how you describe polishes. You could probably sell me the ugliest sheer on the planet. LOL

Branwen’s Wing is gorgeous, HOWEVER, I did one mani with it and four months later the entire bottle had evaporated. I still need to contact BL about that. They need to fix their bottle.

  15. Shannon says:

I have a TON of butter LONDON polish and I LOVE them! Their caps DO pop off. You just might have to work for it.. but if you pop off the cap and tighten it properly then put the cap back on there shouldn’t be any problems with the polish drying out :)
