Sephora by OPI

Nail polish powerhouse OPI has teamed up with beauty superstore Sephora to create an exclusive line of nail colors, nail treatments and hand care products. Dubbed Sephora by OPI the brand will launch with a whopping 54 nail lacquers that will run the gamut from sheer to vampy with a smattering of funky thrown in for girls like me.

They certainly covered the bases in regards to nail treatments. In addition to the standard Base & Top Coat ($9) and Remover ($9), Sephora by OPI includes a Nail Strengthener ($9), Nail Hydrator ($9), Nail Brightener ($9) and Nail Colour Drying Drops ($14).

The hand and nail care products come in sleek black packaging and include an Exfoliating Scrub ($10), Daily Hand Moisturizer ($9), Restorative Hand Moisturizer ($10), Brush-On Cuticle Oil ($9) and Nail Pads ($6) for polish removal on the go.

And now for the most important piece of the collection, the polish. The Nail Colour ($9) collection was designed for Sephora by OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director Suzi Weiss-Fischmann. As we would expect, Suzi put that fun OPI spin on all the names and created a really diverse color palette.

In addition to a slew of new shades, the Sephora by OPI collection introduces a new bottle shape to the market. Taller, weightier and more rounded than traditional OPI bottles, they have a sleeker, more sophisticated feel. Though they can be a pain to open the first time. The smooth caps + super tight seal = calling the boyfriend for help.

Even though I haven’t tested all 54 shades I can already call out some early favorites based on the bottle colors/palettes I’ve seen. Run With It! (shimmery sandy gray), Never Enough Shoes (edgy glittering black), Cab Fare (sparkly lemon yellow), Queen of Everything (metallic silver-gold mix) and Note To Self (gold flecked orange). Here’s a sneak peak of the colors I’ll be testing.

I’ve been rocking Metro Chic all week. The polish lasts forever! I posted a photo of my mani–the color looks hot on everyone!

that’s what I’m talking about! excellent. I just frankened a mauve-grey (OPI Anniversary Babe with Have You Seen My Limo, mostly) but I like Metro Chic better already. MS in Louisville

*gasps!* I sure hope these end up at the JCPenney Sephoras so I could at least see them IRL. While I think the $9 price tag is a bit high (with reg. OPI retail @$8.50), I hope the formula doesn’t have as many application inconsistencies. I’m glad the volume is still at .5 fl oz/15 ml. “Never Enough Shoes” looks pretty hot & “Queen of Everything” sounds like something that would I would definitely like.

Ok now I am one of those gals that buy Chanel etc… but I am wondering why Sephora is charging more than the retail price for regular OPI.

Some colors did interest me though and I am sure I’ll buy a few reguardless just to see if it is good.

Jet Set Girls – It’s a very odd color, I’ll have to see how it looks on my hands before passing judgement.

Maureen – Your franken sounds pretty, what a fun combo you came up with.

Honta – I’m hoping the formula is as good as the last couple OPI collections have proved to be.

Tink – Yeah, the price hike confused me too. It could be that the packaging costs more or because Sephora is essentially a middleman or that OPI will be raising their prices as well.

I like the looks of dont go there. when do they release? I hope their quality is good, like regular opi. I didn’t like Nicolr by OPI. These sound good though. So do their treatments!

Anon #2 – I mentioned the August release at the bottom of the post, you must have missed it. :)

Don’t got there is calling my name!

Does anyone else find the bottles vaguely phallic? Polish looks awesome, though.

  10. Stephanie says:

I’m thinking the price discrepancy is due to a planned future price hike by OPI. *sigh* At this rate, if we’re spoiled now, we won’t be soon enough.

i love the name “never enough shoes” which in my case, i just so true! however, it looks very similar to china glaze’s “lubu heels”. both related to shoes…interesting =)

I like the idea of those pedi products. I’m going to start saving up;)

I’m starting a feature on my blog, HomeSpaGoddess.com about all the products beauty blogger can’t live without. Your blog is great and I’d love for you to participate:)

    Just answer this question:

You’re stranded on a desert island where all of your basic needs (food, water, shelter) are taken care of. You are allowed an unlimited supply of only 7 beauty products. What seven products would you choose?

They can be products for hair, face or body. If you want to participate just email me your answers at hsg{at}homespagoddess.com and put “Island Beauty” in the subject line. I’m going to run my “Island Beauty” feature once a week and I’ll email you when you’re featured.

    Thanks!

Wow! Great pairing! What a staggering number of shades. I am looking forward to checking these out. Thanks for the info. I may have missed this, but since they are from OPI, are they big 3 free?

  15. Verona says:

I totally love that brownish colour in the first picture in the middle! I think I have to start finding out how to order those products to Finland :)

I love sephora and opi, so i’m glad there’s finally a collaboration. I can’t wait to try them all out!!!

I love all of your articles!!! they are great, but you really need to post more. I’m losing interest if you post one thing a week ….

  17. Rose says:

    Warm grays. FINALLY!
I hate how you’re waiting for colors to come out, and it takes manufacturers a year or two to do it. By that time you’ve lost interest, or made your own.
So yeah, I wish they’d had this last fall, when I was scouring the world for warm gray nail polish. :)

Great looking colors but what’s the point? The Sephora by OPI polishes are more $$ than OPI. Am I missing something?
