NYC New York Color Nail Glossies Fall 2008

in Fall 2008, N.Y.C. Color, Silver

I first discovered drugstore gem N.Y.C. (New York Color) through my fellow fanatics on the MUA nail board. It was a swatch picture of Skin Tight Demin (a gorg navy) from their Long-Wearing line that drew me in. A quick trip to Target and I was adding Skin Tight Demin, Big Money Frost and Turquoise Seas from the Nail Glossies line to my collection.

I’ve always been very pleased with my N.Y.C. polishes. They are affordable, Big 3 Free and have a varied color range that isn’t overwhelmingly large. But what has really caught the attention of all us fanatics are the Limited Edition Nail Glossies shades that accompany their Fall makeup collections. Fall 2006 brought us the rich glittering Cognac Sparkle, a shade that still creates lemmings on the nail board. It was so popular that girls were stalking it at every drugstore in town and buying extras for other nail boarders. Same thing happened when Midnight, a teal tinged blue-black sparkler, hit shelves last year. And I have a feeling they may have another hit on their hands.

Molten Metal from this Fall’s collection will fit right in with the metallic trend we’re seeing. A mix of silver glitter and bronzey red base, the overall shade is hard to describe. In sunlight it’s pewter, indoors the base gives it a rosy cast. It’s unique, that’s for sure! I used 3 thin coats to achieve bottle color and used a high gloss top coat since it dries a bit matte.

They aren’t restocked and come in a special display that only holds 3 bottles. So if you’re digging this color you have to be on the ball.

Molten Metal and the rest of the Fall N.Y.C. color collection will hit shelves in September and can be found in drugstores and mass merchandisers like Target, CVS, Walmart, Rite Aid and ULTA.

It’s very pretty. IRC, Cognac Sparkle also dried matte and needed a high-gloss tc. I might have to see this one irl first, but it’s definitely pretty.

I NEED THIS. why can’t they put 3 more in the display? it’s so frustrating! they’d make more $$$$$$. they must enjoy driving us crazy.

when i started out giving myself manicures (10th grade!), i couldn’t bear the thought of buying expensive polish (also i was in high school, at my bonne bell lip d’votion wearing stage), and naturally i headed to the drugstore. the NYC glossies touch of pink was the first polish i purchased, and since then i’ve been obssessed with pale pink on my precious little fingers, and have tried almost all the sheer pinks on the market (i am however, more experimental with my toes).

i’ve remembered how surprisingly even these have gone on, although they seem to get a bit thick after a couple months, and it’s not as good as my favorites from nail pro brands like CND, essie (if they ever discontinue sugar daddy and mademoiselle, i will be buying the remaining stock!), OPI and orly.

the NYC website says the glossies are comparable (translation: are knockoffs of) the chanel le vernis line, and you can totally see that from the bottle design!

NYC makes great knockoffs of department store brands with good quality, and the best part is, it’s so cheap so it’s good for color experimentation…

these colors aren’t exactly what i would get for myself, although i may try them on toes. i was hoping something a little more colorful for fall, but alas, it’s MAROON EVERYWHERE! for that i think i’ll just stick with my orly midnight madness (a frosted garnet) and jessica midnight affair (deep, deep, tango rose). i’m not on board yet with the whole really dark territory…

btw, what is everyone’s basecoat of choice? these days i seem to have a problem making my manicure last, even after i get rid of every little bit of my beloved burt’s bees cuticle balm from the nail bed, it still peels off in big pieces after a couple days, and i DO NOT have time to do my nails every few days! maybe i will need to switch out from my beloved CND toughen up…

I have to say, although they’re super metallic, the soft gray one is really appealing. Like grey cashmere with flecks of silver…lovely.

Yay we get NYC nail enamel here in Blighty (UK)! But I’m not sure if I like this shade much? It looks a bit, well, bitty! Not as opaque as I usually like my nail varnish. I have a metallic colour like this by a brand called 2true in shade 9 which is a silver micro glitter metallic and well, I just don’t think these kinda shades look too great on nails…IMO

I love NYC colors, but the nail polish doesn’t stay very long. :(

Wow, you have underestimated me. I used to think that NYC is just “cheap,” but I guess it’s really not that bad.

I have been using polish #231 for several years and it is suddenly no longer on the shelf???!!!
I get more compliments on the color of my nails and this color goes with everything. I take it to my nail salon and she uses two coats plus a
top coat and it lasts for two weeks with no
problem. Why do you discontinue a color that is so good? And how can I buy a supply of $231????
