Chanel Fall Sneek Peek

The big beauty story in today’s Women’s Wear Daily is about Chanel’s fall collection. It’s the first collection for the new creative director of makeup Peter Philips and he’s taking Chanel GOLD!

The collection’s nail colour, Gold Fiction, will be quite a departure from what we’ve been seeing from Chanel. There’s no “satin” in the name, the packaging will be opaque and the price tag has significantly incresed; $30! No that’s not a misprint, the lacquer will retail for $30 due to the high-end pigments used to create the shade and the opaque gold case.

Christine Dagousset executive vice president of Fragrance and Beauté for Chanel describes Gold Fiction as “…a soft honey gold, not a sparkling bright gold. It’s very wearable and very modern.”

What do you think? Is Gold the next big nail polish color? What about the hefty price tag? Justified? Too high?

I hope the quality is higher than the three Chanel polishes I bought this winter (Blue Satin, Rose Satin and Maddness). All of them chip like crazy. I have never had polish chip on my toes before and these do right away. What a waste of money.

  2. diann_co says:

I do NOT like this one, looks like a hard color to wear!

  3. Marin says:

I really like the color (at least I like how it looks in the photo), but I don’t know if it will be as big as blue satin. The higher price might make it even more appealing to a lot of people. But it’s much easier to find an inexpensive gold polish than an inexpensive navy blue one. So I’ll pass.

Not that I have a choice anyway – Chanel polishes already cost about $30 here! (here=Russia. The markup on cosmetics is huge). I can’t even imagine what this one will end up costing.

  4. Andie says:

jeez! That is one hefty price tag. But I seem to agree with diann_co – that looks like a difficult color to pull off….it almost reminds me of a darker curry up dont be late? is it metallic in quality or matte?

  5. CincyFan says:

Andie, I haven’t seen the polish, just promo images, so I don’t know what it will look like in person. I believe it hits counters in July.

  6. Jeda21 says:

Yikes! And I thought it was already expensive! Did they add gold flakes within this line? It is a pretty collection though. One that would be great at the end of summer when the sun is golden and skin is glowy.

  7. kirsten says:

Love it! At least from what I can tell so far I do. This is definitely a shade that I won’t be ordering online, I’m gonna have to go get it at the mall so that I can test it out and make absolutely sure the color works on me since I have olive/tan skin and with the price tag of $30 I most certainly don’t want to get it home and it look terrible on me. The whole collection looks beautiful, I think the lip gloss and cheek colour are equally as amazing as the polish!

I am NOT paying thirty bucks for one bottle of nail polish. I don’t care how pretty it is, and I actually don’t think this one’s that pretty.

  9. ocelot1 says:

yeah effing right! its GOLD,not a very unique color last time i checked. i will probably not buy it. how lame.

  10. melissa says:

Wow, $30 no way. Maybe if it was some unique color you couldn’t get anywhere else.

They should send you a sample so we can see how it will look.

  11. Rebecca says:

wait, what now what?? Will people really pay $30 for a bottle of nail polish? I can’t even justify spending $15 on Lippman no matter how pretty I think the color may be! That’s pretty hefty… and with this economy, I do really wonder if it will sell! Interesting!

  12. silverin says:

Thirty bucks for a bottle of polish? Not even if I won the lottery, and the lacquer was blue!

  13. Cher says:

hahah Its pretty I think. Ill try it out with my skin tone. However I wont buy it even if I love it…If I did I better be getting some real gold on my nails ! $30 is crazy for polish.

  14. Anonymous says:

I agree with Rebecca. The economy is so bad that “the rest of us” can’t justify $30 for a single bottle of polish, not even as a splurge. I find it ridiculous that they’ve marked up an already shocking price by $11.

  15. Anonymous says:

LOVE IT! I’ve been doing gold for a couple of weeks ago – have you seen Dior’s new nail polishes? Gold Nugget and Coppering Ginger – they are both BEAUTIFUL golds. I hope the Chanel is not too yellowy. Thanks for the sneak peak! I’m excited!

  16. beth says:

I’m not sure about this one. Why is the bottle opaque? I’d like to see it in the bottle before I try it out on my nails.

  17. couture gal says:

wow this is strange a few days ago i posted my beauty trend predictions and gold nail varnish for summer was one of them! and it came true! freaky! def not worth $30. the best golds are drugstore ones

  18. firepail says:

um. for 30 bucks they better be sending a tech to my house to do my nails. gold rarely looks okay with my skin tone, so I think I will pass.

  19. m says:

well there is always FEEbay. if you wait long enough you can get it cheaper there.

  20. Jenny says:

I do love gold polishes and this looks very appealing, but I’ll see what sort of price it is on this side of the pond before I decide whether I’m going to try or not!

Hope it’s a harbinger of gold tips coming back, though.

  21. Tiffany says:

lmao $30 for nailpolish. lmao. That color would only work on warmies it seems, and even if you *really* wanted it….there is already something similar in another line, I’m sure of it.

  22. duffimac says:

I collect gold polishes. But I can’t see paying $30 for polish, especially one I can’t see in the bottle. It’s ridiculous.

  23. brit says:

About four times too high in price, if you ask me. There is absolutey nothing that warrants the ridiculously insane price tag. Sure, there are a lot of people who will cough up the money for it – and that is their choice – but I sorta don’t like throwing my money away.

  24. Eat Me Outta Here says:

If the quality is good I think the price tag is okay. Especially since you can get so many wears out of one bottle. It’s cheaper then going to a salon.

  25. Lisa Marie says:

I remember going on my senior class trip to Los Angeles a couple of years ago and walking into the CHANEL store in Beverly Hills.

My chaperones thought I was insane for buying two $18 bottles of “Organdy” and “Ruby Slipper.”

And while I’ve added to my CHANEL collection, even I’m raising my eyebrow at the idea of spending $30 for a gold that I know won’t look good on me, just because gold isn’t my color.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I’m just not feeling this one. More power to those that do!

hey, ladies! This shade looks very original, and I must try it, no matter how much is the cost.Looks like golden mixed with orange. Citrus gold, anyone? yes, for me, please.
