China Glaze Spring 2008 – Ecollection

It seems like “going green” and focusing on the environment is on everyone’s minds and it is affecting every aspect of our daily lives. And if it’s not everyone, it certainly should be. Now more and more beauty companies are starting to get on the “green” train and China Glaze is no exception. This Spring they introduce the ecollection a set of polishes with an earth conscious theme that comes in recycled paper packaging.

To preserve the beauty of our world’s colors, tread lightly and leave only footprints. In Blahniks or Birkenstocks, going green is always fashionable.

Overall I’m a fan of this collection. I’ll admit the grouping is odd in terms of shade until you read the names and reflect on the theme. So let’s talk formula. As you may already know this new Big 3 Free formula that was introduced last summer is thicker than the old formula and therefore requires a bit of getting used to. I’ve found that it applies best in two medium coats. Too thin and it pulls/drags on the nail, too thick and you get bubbles. All the manicures pictured below were done with two medium coats of lacquer.

Tree Hugger reminds me of a green apple but with multi-tonal green shimmer. It’s like the perfect spring shade for me. Just looking at it makes me happy. I could go on and on about how gorgeous this polish is but it really speaks for itself.
Solar Power can only be described as “taxi cab yellow.” It is a loud and proud shade and with the yellow trend popping back up for spring/summer Solar Power, with it’s golden shimmer, fits right in. I have to admit that I prefer the jelly finish of last year’s Yell-O-Neil from the Surf collection. Simply because its glass like look is so completely unique.
Shower Together is a slightly lighter version of the oh so popular Aqua Baby from the Patent Leather collection. It’s like Aqua Baby and For Audrey had a baby which makes this blue green stunner is a color I could just swim in. Doesn’t it look like pool water?
Unplugged isn’t a shade I normally think of when I look towards Spring but it adds a nice balance to the collection. A red based brown with ribbons of gold shimmer running throughout, the overall color is that of a deep bronze with flecks of gold.Hybrid is a pinky beige with silver shimmer. In other lighting it’s a dusty nude rose. So hard to describe which is what makes it stand out. Does anyone else think it’s similar to Chiaroscuro but without the green shimmer? I’m just not sure I love this on me. What do you think?Recycle is a shade a lot of us have been longing for. A mid-tone gray creme that reminds me of rubber wire coating. Even though some of the MUA nail girls have franken’d their own gorgeous grays, I love being able to get it without the muss and fuss. Gray is going to be the next big shade in polish, especially in fall so, I’d get this one now before gray becomes a scarce commodity.
The China Glaze ecollection is available now in salons and online at 8ty8Beauty and Head2ToeBeauty

I got Hybrid, Unplugged, and Recycle, all of which are fabulous on the nail. I agree with you on the fact that Hybrid is hard to classify. They’re all just spectacular. I’m not getting the other shades, though. Too hard for me to pull off.

  4. Bratt the Catt says:

gorgeous shots as usual. Someone from ChG said that ST is exactly the same as Aqua Baby, except the formula. Would you mind doing a comparison when you get the chance?

  5. Beauty Bug says:

LOVE the gray!!! Was looking for one a bit darker – but am going to try this!

  6. Selkie says:

I’m surprised – just from looking at photos of the collection in its packaging, I didn’t think I’d like these. But I REALLY love them all, except “Solar Power,” which kind of just lies there on the nails – no life!

  7. Robyn says:

I got all except Solar Power. Not really feeling the yellow and way out of my comfort zone. Love Hybrid and Unplugged though. Both beautiful and safe, and the others are great too if you want to get a little crazy.

Thanks for the pics and commentary! Wonderful as usual. Can’t wait to see Ink!!

  9. Stephanie says:

I like Shower Together and Recycle but I think ST is too close to Zoya Yummy and I frankened my own gray. So I had to skip this collection. Are you going to do comparison swatches? I’d love to match ST to Yummy see how they stack up.

Tree Hugger looks so great on you! I tested Recycle and unfortunately, it’s not a great color for my fair, pinky skin. I looked like a corpse:(

  13. violetnoir says:

Love the Recycle. I have it on this week. I can’t wait to see what the greys for the Fall and Winter will look like.

    Hugs!

Does anyone think Unplugged looks similar to Espresso Your Style?

I wasn’t really a fan of this collection til I saw this post! Unplugged is really gorgeous!

  19. kirsten says:

I really like the Shower Together, Tree Hugger, Recycle, and Solar Power. I’m really excited to see what the INK collection looks like even though it will be quite awhile before I can make anymore polish purchases seeing as in the past 2 months I have purchased the RBL spring polishes in Recycle, Yellow Fever, Purple Haze, Chinoise, and Concrete Jungle. Not to mention the CND polishes Hot Pop Pink, Hot Pop Yellow, Hot Pop Blue, Hot Pop Orange, and Studio 54, which I bought right after all the RBL ones. I have a very serious addiction… I think something about bright colors just put me in a trance.

  20. JB says:

Love Tree Hugger, Shower Together, and Recycle… this is a great collection!

I see Recycle in my future….

  22. saysitopipi says:

How does the quality of CG compare with say OPI. I have recently fallen in love with OPI since it dries so fast and almost never bubbles. Also on the shimmers in this collection how many coats?

  23. Sara says:

Great swatches! I regret not getting Shower together now.

  24. Anonymous says:

Can anyone tell me if I can only order CG polishes on-line? Or are there retailers in every state?

  25. Miso Happy With These Colors says:

H-E-L-L-O….. I just ordered RECYCLE and FOR AUDREY (didn’t have the courage to order SHOWER TOGETHER). I can’t wait to receive them and color my world with these lovelies!!!!!!

Thanks for this fun blog ;D

  26. Moms says:

Does anyone think that these over the top colors are too funky for a 34 year old mom that does not look 34 but more like 28?
I’m always so hesitant because of the age thing….Sigh….

  27. Anonymous says:

Hey Cincy, do you think you can take a pic of your entire collection so that we can see your stash? I’m curious as to how/where you store your NP’s….

    Thanks ;D

  28. Lauren says:

Oh wow…if I didn’t just splurge on a bunch of polish, I would snap up Tree Hugger and Shower Together in a second and stash Unplugged for fall. But I must be the only person on earth who will be skipping the gray polish trend; I just don’t see the appeal. Dark blue I was all over, but gray, not so much.

This blog has turned me into a CG fan because of their tendency to release crazier colors. I still remain devoted to OPI, but have been adding more and more CG to my collection. I just got my nails done with Flying Dragon (from the INK collection) and it’s gorgeous.

The green and yellow are so not for me, does not do well on olive tones

  30. Janet in Atlanta says:

I’m somewhat olive toned and I love love loooove Tree Hugger, it’s really my new all time fav!! I have gotten so many complements wearing this color, and I agree, this color makes me happy looking at it!! I didn’t purchase ST with my last purchase, I got Aqua Baby instead and Yell-O-Neil based on the review here. Love this Ecollection line…

  31. Janet in Atlanta says:

Beware ladies of darker tones, Recyle translates into “dead fish” on our skin tones, we need to franken our own medium gray cream.

  32. Anonymous says:

THANKS FOR POSTING THIS. DUDE CHINA GLAZE IS THE BOMBDIGGITY. RECYCLE. FTW.

  33. cloroxcowgirl says:

I love this collection. I have Recycle, Shower Together and Hybrid and they are all gorgeous. Although Hybrid doesn’t look like Chiaroscuro to me (the latter is peachy gold w/green and Hybrid is more of a rosey light brown w/ silver). I really want Tree Hugger and possibly Solar Power as well!

  34. Ari says:

Where can I buy China Glaze? I live in NJ and dont know which stores carry them.

  35. So when does the next article come out? Thanks for this one! 5 stars.

  36. Hunter says:

your swatch totally convinced me to get shower together! there’s a few other colors from this collection I’d love to track down too. I wish I was as into polish as I am now when this collection came out. so aggravating to try to find old colors now!
