OPI India Collection Comparisons

By on February 29, 2008
in OPI, Spring 2008

It’s OK, you can say it. What took me so long? Sifting through 1,000 bottles of polish is your answer. I compared the shades in the new OPI India collection to every bottle of lacquer I own.

I tried to meet most of your requests but there are some colors I just don’t own, like OPI Strawberry Margarita. Due to the number of comparison requests for Yoga-ta Get This Blue, they will be posted in their own entry. You all are blue crazy. I love it!

Some of the India polishes didn’t have a twin or any close relatives so I won’t waste time posting comparisons. Charmed By A Snake is nothing like the new China Glaze Unplugged. Lunch at the Delhi and Elephantastic Pink stand alone in the crowd. Even though I don’t own a ton of cremes I was still surprised by that.

I know a lot of people were hoping to find dupes for Black Cherry Chutney and Royal Rajah Ruby but as you can see below, they are unique. Maybe not to the casual observer but definitely to a polish connoisseur. RRR’s deep richness doesn’t exist anywhere else in my stash, especially when compared to the black based X and Midnight and Moscow. The same goes for BCC, it differs from its competitors in that its not a plum or a burgundy.

Essie Secret Affair, OPI Get Me To The Taj On Time, Zoya June

Lippmann Nefertiti, OPI Curry Up Don’t Be Late, Orly Gold Rush

CND Hot Pop Pink, OPI I’m Indi-a Mood For Love, OPI La Paz-itively Hot, Misa Ur Beautiful

OPI Cajun Shrimp, OPI MonSooner or Later, Zoya Hayley

OPI Midnight in Moscow, OPI Royal Rajah Ruby, China Glaze X, OPI It’s a Doozi Says Suzi

Carolyn New York Mugged on the Six Train, OPI Black Cherry Chutney, OPI Lincoln Park After Midnight, China Glaze X

Darn. Now I may “need” some of these. When can you post the China Glaze INK collection? not that I’m greedy or anything……

Thank you so much for comparisons!!!!!!!!

I think a lot of the dissatisfaction some people (NOT ME) felt for this collection was bottle color. And I’ll admit I was a little worried from bottle pics that BCC and RRR would be dupes of others. But on the nail, they’re completely unique. I have ten of the twelve and there’s not a dupe to be found for any of them – even RRR and BCC. And I have a huge collection of OPI, China Glaze, Essie, Carolyn New York, etc. etc. I was overwhelmingly impressed with this collection.

Thanks sweetie for posting these. I especially appreciate it because I have Midnight in Moscow and was debating on getting Black Cherry Chutney. Thanks to your pics, I have ruled out BCC. Though they are not exact, they are really close enough for me! Love you and I really appreciate the time you take to help out all of us nail aficiondos!!! xoxoxoxoxo Deni

Oh these are great comparisons!!! Thanks so much. Have you found anything similar to Essie Body Language in a big 3-free brand?

  9. Nikki says:

I love the pics on ur blog! Thank you so much for the insight of how these colors actually look on the nails. Bottle colors can be so deceiving!

  10. Henna says:

omg, the ruby one is LOVE. Hehe, I need to pick that up this weekend!

  11. Anonymous says:

That was very helpful, thank you! Can’t wait to learn more about ChG Ink… :) :) :)

  12. firepail says:

I just checked out the Carolyn New York site out of curiosity, and they are offering their ten top colors for a buck a bottle.

And there are two new gray cremes (not a dollar though)!

Now show us some CG Ink!

    Thanks for the swatching!
    =)

Why am I just so bored with it all? Have you seen white satin? Now that is exciting.

  14. firepail says:

I would like to see OPI Moon Over Mumbai, Essie’s Great Expectations, CG’s Recycle, Carolyn NY Stickball and Hangin Out on the Stoop swatched together.

  15. Anonymous says:

White Satin seems kinda dull – a neutral pale white? What will Chanel release next – CLEAR SATIN? White Satin doesn’t seem special enough to blow $19 on it, especially when the Chanel formula doesn’t wear that well.

  16. Trina says:

Secret Affair and Get Me To The Taj look soooooo much better on you than they do on me! They look gray on my nails, and make my skin look dead. And I was so sure they would be winners :~(

Thanks for the comparison pics! I see a few (especially those vampies) I’ll have to try soon!

  17. Penny says:

Thanks for posting all the great comparison pictures. It certainly helps deciding on which new colors to buy.

  18. Sminkan says:

Thank you for doing such an excellent job! Very good comparisons!

I think I started to like Royal Rajah Ruby a little better after this. I loved it to begin with, but then it suddenly looked charmless and boring. Bron isn’t my colour, I keep telling myself, but somehow I recently bought 8 or 9 new polishes that all look brown to me…

  19. firepail says:

the China Glaze site posted more info about Ink! looks like it will be out for Summer. I can’t wait that long!

Wow! Moon Over Mumbai and Great Expectations are exactly alike.

Thank you, darling M, for all of the great swatch comparisons. I know that all of us readers appreciate your kind efforts.

    Hugs!

  21. CincyFan says:

I swear, Ink and the Ecollection are on the way. I was finishing them up over the weekend and you will see them very soon. I really would love to have posted them earlier but it’s just too taxing on my nails and cuticles to work any faster. As much as I love and appreciate you all, my nail health has to come first.

Anon #2 – someone commented on my original India post about how people were going to be loving these once they tried them on. That the bottles are deceiving. In regards to the shimmers, I completely agree.

Anon #4 – I can’t think of anything close to Body Language but if I do, I’ll post a comment here.

Firepail – As much as I would love to spend my days doing comparison pics, I just don’t have the time. And I don’t always own the polishes people request. If someone wants to buy them all for me, feel free. :D

I do the best I can but I have a full time job and I try to give comparisons that I think are most helpful. I hope you understand.

You are the best…I think some people do not understand the time and the wear and tear this takes on you. You go above and beyond for people you don’t even know because of your fasination. **APPLAUSE**

  23. firepail says:

Sorry! I didn’t realize my post came across as a demand–I really don’t expect you to swatch every color family that comes out. I love the swatches you post, they make shopping so much easier.

I was just curious where CG’s Recycle fit in to the wave of gray shades out there.

I totally appreciate the pictures you post.
    sorry!

  24. Anonymous says:

Since you are going to do a strictly blue swatch comparison, do you think you can add Dior’s Poison Blue? If you have it…..

    :D

    Tnx..

  25. CincyFan says:

Sorry, I don’t have any Dior polishes. I’m sure if you search you can find a comparison somewhere. But my guess is that like most of the blue-blacks, Chanel Blue Satin for example, the Dior is going to be way darker than Yoga-ta.

  26. LupRocks Gossip says:

I love the comparison of the different shades of gray. I think that gray is going to be so huge this spring, and I am so excited about it. I work with jewelry designers, and I was suggesting this color, which looks great with both gold and silver! Such a nice change from the dark navy that is splashed all over town.

  27. Anonymous says:

WOW! Amazing blog. I will wait your review on new French collection!!! My boy friend just gave me as a present NL 21 Eiffel for this color. And I am just thinking should I keep it change on something else. I actually did not have this fashionable aubergine yet before. but Parlez-vouz OPI look like of more original.
So I just so much looking forward to your photos and report.

  28. Chris says:

Charmed by a Snake is now discontinued, but I have found that mixing a teeny bit of OPI Brisbane Bronze with OPI Golden Rules! makes a shade that is somewhat close. It’s not an exact dupe but it’s in the same family. Also, if we want to be generous and share our collection with you, how could we send samples to you?

    • All Lacquered Up says:

Thanks for the franken recommendation. I still have my bottle of Charmed by a Snake but for those who missed out, this is a great alternative. My contact information is listed on the Contact & Copyright Info tab
