Rescue Beauty Lounge Under The Stars

Rescue Beauty Lounge, the salon and product line, is the creation of the uber-stylish Ji Baek. For Ji her previous life working in the hospitality industry, spending countless hours on her feet in high heels, led to her love of pedicures. But all the salons and spas she encountered were either unsanitary or too high end/high priced.

So being a self proclaimed “germ-o-phobe” and wanting to save her excess cash for shoes, Ji set out on a mission to open a salon dedicated to nail care that was fun, reasonably priced and above all, clean. So in 1998 the first Rescue Beauty opened it’s doors. Inside you’ll find hospital standards of cleanliness and the Rescue Beauty Lounge line of bath & body products and nail lacquer.

The RBL lacquers have a cult following and until now, I’ve never had the opportunity to try one. I’ve only seen beauties like Revamp, Black Russian, Concrete Jungle and Dead Calm in online swatches. So when a nail buddy surprised me with a bottle of my biggest RBL want, Under The Stars, I shrieked.

Under The Stars is a blue-black shimmer. I know, I know, you’re groaning already. Not another blue-black. You’ve seen of ton of them already. If you’re not a blue lover and collector this one might not wow you. BUT, and I do mean that to be a big but, what makes Under The Stars unique to me is the gorgeous light blue glitter. It leaves the nail surface with a bit of texture but it’s totally worth it.
The formula is of a medium-thick consistency, flows smoothly on the nail and is Big 3 Free. Not only that but it’s highly pigmented, requiring only one coat to achieve bottle color.

I normally only test a formula’s wear for five days but Under The Stars performed so well that I left it on for seven. I was also just enamoured with the color (and a bit lazy). There was noticeable tip wear, more than I’d normally allow myself to be seen in but, no chips. And considering how long I’d been wearing the shade it held up well.

Rescue Beauty Lounge polish retails for $18 and can be purchased at a RBL salon or on the company website.

    Very pretty!

Oh, I am feeling your germaphobe pain. I just found a purse-size can of Lysol spray. Between that and my hand sanitizer, I am a much happier camper.

Love your blog. Kudos on Coutorture’s front page reads.

Mmm, I’m impressed by the wear time and the need for only one coat but not by the color – looks like all the other blue-blacks to me and i haaate the bumpiness from glittered nail polish.

Also – I’m a little shocked that the person who created this line’s idea of reasonably priced nail care is an 18 dollar bottle of nail polish – the highest original retail price I’ve seen so far. I can’t imagine how much a mani/pedi would cost at her salon.

That’s really beautiful. I’m a blue lover, but I don’t think I’ll get this one mainly because of price and the chunky, bumpy glitter. Midnight Affair, from the Revlon Dark Pleasures LE line, appears to look very similar to this one, blue glitter/shimmer included (though Revlon’s is not bumpy). Thanks for posting this, Cincy! : D

How does this compare to things like SSN and Blue Blood?

The color is beautiful, but I seriously could not deal with that texture! I’d spend all day rubbing my nails. Wouldn’t I look smart? :)

I must say that I am very upset with this whole blog! I have seriously become an even worse addict now! I can’t seem to stop hopping all around town crashing my local beauty stores to get my next color! It’s like a crack addiction, you can’t wait for your next fix!!!! LOL!!!!

Can anyone answer this for me? Do you always wear ridge filler to get that ultra smooth clean look with your mani? I’ve just started and I swear it looks so much better! Have I been in the dark all this time?

  11. cary's girl says:

I agree with Stephanie. I love this color, but I don’t consider $18 “reasonably priced.”

  12. Kira says:

No, no … Ji Baek wanted her “salon” to be reasonably priced. Apparently, she did not feel the same about her polish.

    (snark)

Actually, if you only need one coat, and one assumes it actually dries faster … maybe it is worth the price. How many mani’s have you ruined for not waiting long enough? (Let me count my ways …)

  13. Monique R. says:

TEMPTALIA IS KILLIN’ YOU ON THE NEW COLLECTIONS!

  14. Stephanie says:

How rude. I rather wait a while to see the new colors than have sloppy swatches like on Temptalia – you don’t get a good look at the color at all. Cincy you’re awesome keep it up.

  15. Anonymous says:

Temptalias swatches are HORRIBLE and messy. You can never compare jello to creme brulee. I think you are great Cincy. I applaud what you do and will always support your blog!

I would imagine that selling polishes at $18 a pop equals a LOT of shoes!!!

The polish looks beautiful but IMO too much like the other myriad blues out there.

However, dead calm looks very intriguing from this line…do you think you could get your paws on one of those and swatch it?

  17. hopeful says:

Do you think you can swatch Black Russian? It looks so beautiful on the RBL website.
