Fall 2007 Couture Nail Watch – Christian Dior

The Fall 2007 Couture fashion shows took place in Paris, July 3rd & 4th (with the exception of Valentino’s show). So while the majority of Americans were watching fireworks and scarfing down grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, the French were drooling over some amazing fashion.

First up, the nail looks from the Christian Dior show. Check out what looks to be a combo half moon manicure and french manicure in the first few pics. I’d love to know what nail tech designed the look and the inspiration behind it. Very unique.

I love this post. Runway nails are one the things that often get overlooked when it comes to fashion trends. But, it’s a part of the whole package, and can spur women to mob cosmetics counters and hunt for colors that they might not have worn before. It’s very interesting to see.

Lovely. I wish I could do the half-moon look at home – I can do a very competent French manicure, but I tend to splodge half-moons, especially on my right hand. Boo.

I like the Dior nails. I actually saw an ad in Vogue, IIRC for Dior, and it was a two-page spread and one page was themed green, the other pink. Her nails matched both, a white half moon and tip with either a bright green or bright pink “middle”. It’s eye catching to say the least, but it seems to be something one can only pull off with longer, more oval nails. Not short, squareys like me, and more’s the pity. I like it.

I believe the french + half moon combination is inspired by a retro look. I can’t remember who posted it (and can’t find it!), but there was something on the MUA nail board about it. I’ll see if I can search further and dig it up.

People used to paint only the part of the nail that is above the moon and below the tip.

i remember seeing CND having a model with this type of mani some time ago but i can not remember when or where.
