OPI Russian Collection Swatches

By on June 19, 2007

Now that you’ve had time to drool over the bottle pics of this collection, I give you swatches and lemming wheel pics. I ask that you please don’t republish these pictures without my permission.

I haven’t really had time to play with all the colors as in depth as I’d like so I can’t give you full reviews now but I’d be happy to answer any questions you have.

What I can say is that Catherine the Grape, Russian Navy and Moscow At Midnight are the standout shades for me. They are each unique and stunning on the nail.

To be honest, I really didn’t expect to love Catherine the Grape from just looking at the bottle but, as they say, looks are deceiving. Applied, it is a gorgeous plummy purple with bronzey shimmer.

Moscow at Midnight is a near black with reddish shimmer that stands out in the sun but just adds interest in indoor lighting.

Russian Navy could be OPI Ink’s deep dark cousin. It’s navy on the nail but it has blue, purple and pink shimmer to add depth.

Boris & Natasha, Catherine The Grape, Kreme de la Kremlin, Cosmo-Not Tonight Honey

St. Petersburgundy, An Affair In Red Square, Vodka & Caviar, Ruble For Your Thoughts

Midnight In Moscow, Siberian Nights, Russian Navy, Suzi Says Da!

Actually, I am thinking that Kreme de la Kremlin and Siberian Nights, as well as Midnight in Moscow, may be the standout shades for me.

What do you think, Cincy? Is Siberian Nights like a navy blue cream?

    Thanks and hugs!

You’re welcome littlesunshine! I’m glad you like the pics. :D

VioletNoir (VC, right?) – Siberian Nights is way too dark to be mistaken for navy. It’s a purple base but extremely blackened. I would imagine it’s similar to LPAD, though I don’t own it to compare.

After I get back from my weekend trip, I’ll start working on color comparisons for you all.

hi cincy — how’s russian navy different from some of the other dark blues — like drinkin my blues away from china glaze? thanks

  7. violetnoir says:

Oh, no, I am sorry. I am not VC. I originally joined MUA’s fragrance board some time ago, and recently started looking at the nail board, which I have discovered I love!

Hmmm…SN reminds you of LPAD, huh? That’s not very original!

Anyway, I look forward to your further posts on this collection.

    Hugs!

Anon – Russian Navy is much darker than DMBA, OPI Ink, it’s more on par with China Glaze Up All Night but more shimmery.

Violetnoir, I apologize. I totally realize who you are now. Silly me! :D

Actually, I just remembered that I have a mini of LPAD at home somewhere. I’ll have to dig it up and let you all know how close they are.

  9. violetnoir says:

Thank you, Cincy! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts.

    Hugs!

    Cincy:

Fabulous blog and fabulous pics! I really appreciate the close up of Russian Navy to show the shimmer. How’s the formula for this one? Is it as challenging as OPI Ink to apply? Thank you for all your hard work in putting together this blog. I love it!

  12. Anonymous says:

How did you find the formula of the deeper OPIs? I know since they changed it it’s been a bit gloopy.

I bought and applied Boris and Natasha last night on my toes, and found it a bit goopy… I did have the ceiling fan on though and that may have thickened the consistency.

  15. Helena says:

The best pictures I have ever seen !!! Thank you very very much!

  16. NailPolishFanatic says:

Best polish resource site ever! You have helped SO MUCH!

  17. Sarah says:

Russian collection is awesome. I already ordered my Catherine the grape.
    Cincy thank you.

  18. Elizabeth says:

Somehow, the Russian Navy that I have is more purple than blue. I was looking for a shiny blue/black navy (like chanel blue satin) and was disappointed to get a purple instead. Any suggestions?

  19. Dawn says:

Still the best collection for Autumn / Winter that I’ve seen. The red glow of An affair In Red Square warms me on even the drabbist Winter day!

i’m not a fan of nail polish but i just had a mani/pedi three days ago with Russian Navy and i LOVE IT! if you don’t like sparkles, it only looks like that very close up in the sunlight. i would highly recommend it.

  23. Christie says:

oh! these are seductively gorgeous! the way i like it. :D wish i could have them all!

  24. Jackie says:

I am looking for a nail polish just like Russian Navy but in a PURPLE version, do you have any suggestions??

  25. Jenn says:

where do you get those plastic nail thingies?

  26. I really like the color “Midnight in Moscow” !! :)

  27. Medusa says:

I also love “Midnight In Moscow” – got a manicure of it not too long ago – but it looks best in best sunshine. Indoors it just looks very dark/black & you can’t see how cool it is. :(
